I got a lot of stuff on the Winter Sale. So far, Darkest Dungeon has been the best surprise. Really good, unique game.

I meant to grab that for myself but missed the sale deadline. I have played some via steam family sharing and it's a fun surprise.

Steamlink would be garbage over wifi, yeah? Anyone have any good impressions of the Steamlink over a good wifi connection?

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

My brief usage of it was more than satisfactory over wifi. My problems were caused by having 2 monitors and an irregular resolution (2560x1080) on my primary monitor. Like the Xbox One to Windows 10 streaming it is surprisingly well done and exceeded my expectations of latency and quality. Everyone's setup is different though, huge YMMV.

Related to my Steam Controller... I lost my wifi dongle, opened a ticket with Valve to buy a new one... and they're just going to send me one for free. Pretty awesome.

Hmmmmm. I may take the leap. I have a very good router and the PC and steamlink wouldn't be too far apart so I could ethernet it if need be. The $50 price point on the link is so tempting.

Yeah, at the price point it's a hard itch not to scratch.

I have a pretty beefy Asus 5G router and it works ok for most games over wifi.

Games like Life is Strange, Rocket League, Banner Saga, Fallout 4 and most RPGs work fine. Competitive Shooters that need rapid response tend to fail a bit as there is some lag. I do have occasional artifacts or hiccups in frame rate, but for the type of games I use it for it's acceptable to me.

Maybe it's a placebo, but I feel like the link has gotten better at streaming since I bought it. I have it in the beta program so I get firmware updates quite frequently. I also knocked it down to stream balanced/720p instead of full 1080p and that helped with the frame rate/artifacts compared to 1080p.

                Hope this long post helps.

That is a huge help. I have a 5ghz gaming router asus as well.

How much of a degradation do you see in graphics, in addition to the lower resolution? I don't mind occasional artifacting or lost frames as long as I can be somewhere around 30 fps with consistent graphics.

I mainly have my eye on this for RPGs as those are my favorite genre by far. A little modded Skyrim would be nice on the big screen.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

The performance hit is negligible, it's all about bandwidth. Unless your system is already listed to it's limits.

Constantly being improved on too, this is from today's beta patch:

                    In-Home Streaming
                    • Added support for streaming 5.1 audio from Windows host machines to other Steam Clients and the Steam Link. Click here for more info
                    • Fixed occasional black screen when starting streaming
                    • Fixed Steam Controller configuration customization while streaming

Can anyone who knows about PC gaming tell me if this is a good config

                      Intel Core i7-4790K Processor 4GHz

                      240GB Solid State Drive
                      NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980Ti 6GB GDDR5

The PowerSpec X503 Desktop Computer features the Intel Core i7 4790K Unlocked processor kept cool to overclock by the Corsair Hydro GTX H100i liquid cooler. This high performance gaming system is based upon the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT systemboard powered by the Corsair HX 750W 80 Gold power supply in a Corsair Vengeance C70 chassis. For gameplay domination, it also includes an Nvidia GTX 980Ti 6GB GDDR5 video card and 16GB of EVGA High Performance DDR3 memory. Note: The Windows 10 Professional operating system is loaded on a Samsung 240GB EVO solid state boot drive and the system also comes with a license and media for Windows 7 Pro software. You may only use one version of the Windows software at a time. Switching between versions will require you to uninstall one version and install the other version.

It looks good, but what motherboard and PSU does it have? Is it a pre-built one? Those typically skimp there iirc.

Mother board is Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT

Mother Board Chi[set is an Intel Z97 Express

                          PSU is 750 watts

It is prebuilt. I have zero clue about building one and can get this on a good deal.

I tried to watch a video on how to put it all together but am afraid I will mess up and all cables and blah blah...It is frustrating me. I think if I buy pre build and study it I can learn to build my next one much easier in a few years.

This build I can get for about 2K

They over charging you big time. And to be perfectly honest you won't learn from a pre-built since pre-built uses custom sized parts and not standard sized parts. They also usually have very sloppy cable management.
