Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

I went with what I think is a mid to lower end 5070 Ti model, and have been shocked by the amount of overclocking headroom there is to play with here.

You can more or less stretch this thing into a stock 5080, while still maintaining a little bit of an undervolt as well.

I've been trying to get my hands on a 5090, even prebuilt... wild.

The prebuilds are being sold for insane amounts.

Guess I will wait. 3090 holding strong.
I regularly check Microcenters website (closest to me is Marietta, Ga) and this morning they had 7 5090's in stock. I don't want the PNY card, but they have those.

Not sure how to embed anymore, but Steam has announced some new hardware.

I am excited to see how this does and if people enjoy it and who the market will be.

I don’t think this product is for me necessarily, but I would definitely consider throwing one on a living room TV if my kids played a little more from my PC library. They’re already pretty anchored into Nintendo and PlayStation so it wouldn’t make much sense.

Really excited to see where they go with this and to see the further development of their hardware ecosystem as well as Steam OS.

I wound up selling my Steamdeck OLED mostly because I realized that I prefer to spend my limited gaming time on desktop, but it was a great product and the Steam OS has matured into a really great software offering.

Guys I ventured back into the PC gaming world last week. Picked up the the ASUS ROG G700 5080. Pairing it with the LG C4 that I’ve been using with my consoles. So far so good. Can’t believe how smooth and the graphics I’m getting.

Nice! I'm holding out until the GTA VI PC release to upgrade.

Maybe by then I'll also have moved or switched internet providers that can get me high speed wired in my room without needing to use a powerline adapter, and I can get MSFS 2024 on top of it.

Hoping the current craziness with memory prices doesn’t last as long as all the doomsayers are predicting right now. Kinda kicking my self for not just upgrading my AM4 build earlier this year when I got my current GPU…

How does everyone feel about iPad / iPhone games that work on MacBook from the App Store?

My app WCFF Flag Football works on MacBook but we really don't promote it that way. Really curious if any games are popular for MacBook that weren't optimized for it.

That looks more like AI filters, which I'm not a fan of. I'm okay with everything that is non-character related. It's not just "photo-realistic lighting" that is shown on those characters faces. It looks more like AI-generated faces. AI inclusion in games feels inevitable. But, there needs to be some limitations. In some ways, I'm looking forward to AI in certain areas. For sports games, I would love AI generated Commentary. Most sports game's Commentary feels robotic and lifeless. If AI can be used in a way to speed up and aid game development, then I'm okay with it. But, the AI generated faces goes against the developers artisic intent

For me, I don't crave photo-realistic graphics in games. We're at diminishing returns now, but I like where we are at. There's been games that looks amazing visually, but I can look at it and say it's still looks like a video game. That's okay. The problem with trying to go with photo-realistic visuals, is that you need gameplay that looks photo-realistic. I wouldn't want a game that looks like real life, but still plays like a game

Everybody going crazy over something that won't come out until the end of the year at the earliest. What people aren't talking about though it is that it took TWO, yes TWO RTX 5090 in SLI to run DLSS 5 in the tech demos they showed. So until they make it efficient, it won't be that big of a deal or impact like people are currently worried about.

It's funny, because the possibility that no one will be able to afford to run this feature until the 2030's would've been the thing everyone would be dunking on.

Instead they gave the chick from Resident Evil lip implants, lmao.

I'll check it out on a game-by-game basis. If it improves over time or there are intensity levels for which you can lessen the effect, that might just be the sweet spot.

It's also about how much it's enhancing what's already there versus creating something for itself. For example, I love my DarbeeVision video processor and swear by it. It's not a sharpening tool, instead it's just unlocking more of what is clearly intended by the source. If this can do the same and developers support it, then more power to it.

Again though, I think I'd be trying it out in some scenarios versus others. I wonder how much it would improve a GTA VI, say.
