I'm not a big Steam user/buyer, but the Steam Lunar New Year sale is on for those who don't know. 2/15- 2/19. Looking for a Perfect Golf reduction myself.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I picked up the Ryzen 3 2200g today for my office build. I don't plan to do any gaming on this system, it is going to primarily be for productivity and online business sales work. I hope that this thing can do what I need it to do. I pretty much paid about $480 for everything, not including the monitors I still need to pickup. The case cost me close to what I paid for the RAM, probably could of gone for a cheaper one but have always liked the Air 240 which I've built my kids PC in and my i7/1080ti gaming rig is in a Corsair 460X.
I picked up a lot of cheap components at Microcenter since this rig is not my primary.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I'm thinking of purchasing a Surface Book 2 earlier than expected (which was in May, when I'm gonna start grad school for nurse anesthesia) to take advantage of the gaming capabilities of the Surface Book. I'm curious though how much of a difference I should expect from the SB2 13" w/ GTX 1050 as opposed to the 15" w/ the GTX 1060? I'm only planning to do some light gaming... NBA 2K, Fortnite, CS, etc. I am, after all, primarily buying this for grad school.Comment

Thanks Phobia! Looks like I will have to wait for AMD to send me a A6 so I can flash the mobo bios to support the APU. The joys of new technology. LOL!
The Air 240 is awesome, I built my kids PC in the same case two years ago.Comment

OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Well I bought that pc a friend had that I posted about a couple weeks ago. Haven't bought any games yet, but I downloaded Fortnite(which is free) and it runs that with no problem. Epic settings ran at 80fps, but I lowered some of them and am getting 180ish now and the game still looks good. I also bought a gaming mouse and a 144hz Acer predator monitor to go with it last week. Needless to say, I've seen the light that is pc gaming. I've been missing out man... graphically I think my system is about the same as my xbox one, but playing games at high frame rates is just insanely good. Honestly makes me cringe now when I switch back to console lol(playing fps games anyway), which I still do because a lot of my friends don't have a pc.
Very happy with the purchase.. I'll stick with this for a little while but my next pc I'm definitely building myself(so long as this cryptomining stuff doesn't continue and keep jacking up prices anyway lol).Last edited by z Revis; 02-20-2018, 09:18 AM.Indianapolis Colts

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I've had the Acer Predator in my cart at newegg the past week. So close to pressing the button. Both my monitors are 60hz. I got a taste of GSYNC and 144hz with a Dell I returned due to the TN panel so I know it's worth it.Well I bought that pc a friend had that I posted about a couple weeks ago. Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Be aware guys that the predator has a firmware issue with Gsync + displayport. If you get an older model, even though you buy it recently new it could be an older version and only fix is sending it in to Acer. Acer issued a statement that the only fix is sending it in to them for them to apply a firmware patch.
The issue is the monitor will develop a small line down the middle of screen 1 pixel wide and on one of the edges. Turning it off and then back on will fix it temporarily.
Just a heads up, if you get one and it does this the monitor is not broken.Comment

Interesting. I haven't yet tried gsync so not sure if that's an issue on mine, but thanks for the heads up.
SoMiss2000 - They're fantastic monitors if you get a good one. I only chose it because it was $339 on Amazon vs the $440 ASUS ROG I was looking at that had the same specs(I have the 1080p model). That said, it seems to be a panel lottery. I read countless reviews on it and browsed forums and so many people have had bad backlight bleed or dead pixels etc. but luckily I had none of those issues. So, I definitely recommend it if you get a good one. And even if you don’t, you can always return it!Last edited by z Revis; 02-20-2018, 09:15 AM.Indianapolis Colts

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Are any of you guys console gamers also? I have the Pro and One X but still have the itch to buy a gaming PC. I have struggled with this decision for years because of the constant upgrades needed to play newer games.
The other thing I struggle with is Pre built or building one myself. The problem is, I would have no ideal what I'm doing. So Prebuilt is probably what I'll do. I guess my question is, How does a decent gaming PC stack up to the X? I got a quote from a company i researched about a year ago. I had a friend tell me it was too much for what I was getting. I will post it at the bottom and see what some of you experts think.
I think this is the year I finally jump in. Also, this setup at the time was around $2700
Thanks

Before I built my current PC (that I went all in on) I had a gaming laptop that lasted at least 6 years.
Sure towards the end it couldn't so ultra settings but it still worked fine.
My current build will last a good while plus I have the ability to add ram, change CPU etc.. when needed.
No different that shelling out 400.00 every 3-4 years for a console except in this case it's for parts and not a whole setup.
As far as building it really is easy these days.
I used partpicker site to pick my system parts (It took me a few weeks as I kept playing with different builds etc..)
It does the compatibility check for you and shows current prices and different sites for the parts.
Check out some YT videos on building to get the idea and become more familiar with it.
It's well worth it.
I don't own and X as the PRO has the exclusives I want.
On high settings it's better than the PRO.
Plus the user MODS on certain games that enhance textures or add content is a nice plus.
Good luck man!Last edited by Skyboxer; 02-23-2018, 10:05 PM.Joshua:

From what I'm reading, building one may cost more due to cryptocurrency. I will check out part picker and see what I can piece together and compare it to a my quote. The constant upgrades needed is really a "myth".

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I have all the consoles (not the x but a xbox s) and a gaming pc and I prefer PC because its just an amazing gaming experience. It's hard to go back to my consoles after experiencing ultra wide and gaming at 165 hz. I mainly only use my ps4 for the exclusives and the switch only when i travel and never use my xbox unless to play 4k movies.
With that said, I don't think i can recommend a PC with these crazy GPU and ram prices. You get a lot of value from the X, playing in 4k for 500 bucks.
A good gpu is going to cost double that alone. Madness!Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Sadly, now is a terrible time to jump into PC gaming. Cryptomining has ruined the entry point. A base line PC, running everything maxed in games and getting your magically 144 fps, is a $1,500 to $2,000 build. If you love the games PC offers, CSGO, LoL, ArmA 3, etc, understand your making an investment to use this expensive thing a lot lol
