Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
It can be intimidating at first.
I think the tutorial was updated in the latest patch, so it might be a bit better(I haven't looked at it). I believe they actually hired a guy that solely worked on the tutorial to try and make it more useful(or at least updated with recent patch gameplay changes, I think the tutorial was actually broken at one point because of a gameplay change), but I'm not sure if it was this last patch or for a future patch(or even for EUIV and not for CK2).
Also, there are delayed tooltips for just about everything. If you see something on the interface your not sure about, just hover the mouse pointer over it, and it'll give an explanation of it.
some people say it's best to start as an Irish count(in the 1066 start date at least). no chance of being attacked in a holy war, no real immediate chance to get wiped out by a big Kingdom. It's a good way to start to learn of the mechanics of the game. It probably wont be very action packed at first, as Ireland is broken up in small counties or Duchies at the start. Your overall goal could be to unite the Irish clans and create the kingdom of Ireland.
different than say EU, Victoria, or Hearts of Iron, It's usually not best to start out as a big Kingdom in CK2. since this game focuses on family and feudal interactions, it may overwhelm you with all the events and notifications and rebellions and People plotting to kill you, even your brother.
Also probably avoid the Iberian Peninsula(present day Spain/Portugal) on your first playthrough. The fighting between Christian and Muslim nations happens often and you may not be ready for it. It would give you a real good chance to get a lot of war action in though.
And playing as other religions or as a Merchant Republic are also a bit different from each other and from playing as a christian. So it's almost like learning the game again.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Crusader Kings II is actually on the easier side of Paradox games.
In terms of 'easy' to 'hard' I would rank them as
CK2 - EU - Victoria --------------HoI
I don't think I'm smart enough to even learn how to play Hearts of Iron. Scratch that, I know I'm not smart enough.
Looking forward to EU4 though. Always love the random occurrences of real life events.
As for the GoT mod for CKII it is excellent. A lot of scenarios have been updated as well. http://citadel.prophpbb.com/forum3.h...5ceb4c7a0ed88cComment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Paradox often has streams of their games as well.
right now, they are playing CK II with The Old Gods DLC. the broadcast are saved, so you can watch them later if you don't want to watch it live. they are pretty laid back group and some of the language during the stream might be NSFW.
also, CK II is still 75% off at Paradox's webstore(you get steam keys to download/install from steam I believe). base game is $10, and all the DLC except the ones just released(The Old Gods and a couple cosmetic DLCs) are also 75% off. either $2.50 or $1.25.
Paradox Interactive is a world leading PC games publisher known for games such as Cities: Skylines, Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings.
the main expansion DLCs are The Republic, Swords of Islam, Sunset Invasion(I would recommend not getting it as it's not historical with aztecs invading europe), Legacy of Rome, and The Old Gods.Last edited by Solidice; 06-17-2013, 02:24 PM.Comment

Also, "Don't Starve" is $11.99 and the 3 free games promo still applies.PS: You guys are great.

More on the success of Gunpoint: http://www.pentadact.com/2013-06-18-...in-64-seconds/
Sales chart:
Pre-orders...

Launch...

I feel slightly bad waiting for a sale reading that but it's balanced out by the fact it only cost $30 to make and costs were recouped in 64 seconds. It also means I can afford to keep being nice. I didn’t let anyone pay for Gunpoint until I was ready to put a free demo out, so everyone would have a way to make sure it ran OK on their system and that they liked it before giving me any money.
I was informed by lots of people with industry experience that this is commercial idiocy: you want to hold it back so that excited fans buy without trying, then you can release the demo later to tempt those who weren’t convinced. And with some (not all), you get weird responses if you bring up non-money factors in a business conversation.
“You’ll lose sales this way!”
“From people who don’t really like it? I think I want to lose those sales.”
“No, you don’t understand. You’ll have less sales.“
I’m sure they’re right, and as a noob I appreciate the advice. In fact I got so much skepticism that I started to think the lost sales might actually be the difference between being able to become a developer or not. But even if that had been the case, I wasn’t going to quit my job for a career in tricking people into giving me money and regretting it.
I have no idea if and how much the pre-release demo hurt Gunpoint’s sales, but it doesn’t matter now – that’s how I want to treat people, and the amazing support for Gunpoint means I can afford to.Comment

BTW, if y'all don't have Mark of the Ninja, I highly recommend picking it up during this week's Steam midweek sale. For $3.75 USD, you get a great stealth game that has a fantastic art style.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Valve may be planning a new feature for digital download service Steam that will allow users to share their game library with friends, according to code spotted in the latest Steam client beta as reported by Kotaku.
Similar to Microsoft's plans for its Xbox One console, the Steam code suggests users will be able to share owned titles but will not allow users to play the shared games at the same time.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
As long as they keep the system they have in place, and don't take away the ability to play games offline (If I travel with my laptop I use Steam almost exclusively in offline mode) without instituting some stupid random "necessary" check that isn't necessary, I'm fully for this - though I won't use it much most likely.Last edited by ubernoob; 06-19-2013, 07:45 AM.badComment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
If this is true, you would probably need to be online if you have shared/are sharing whatever game you lent since Steam would need to check if the user you lent it to is playing online. As long as they keep the system they have in place, and don't take away the ability to play games offline (If I travel with my laptop I use Steam almost exclusively in offline mode) without instituting some stupid random "necessary" check that isn't necessary, I'm fully for this - though I won't use it much most likely.
Perfectly fine with that since you are playing a game you didn't purchase.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Yeah, I'm definitely alright with the checks somehow working on a game by game basis. I don't want to give anyone a game they didn't pay for and then play it myself at the same time somehow cheating the system.
I just don't want to see the offline modes we have available currently go "bye bye".
I'm no programmer, but it seems like it would be relatively easy to have a game flagged when you choose to share it and then if you want to play that game that flag has to be removed by connecting to the internet.badComment
