Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

It's the end all market for PC gaming because it's sales are still unmatched and I have like 400 games on the service.

The Origin client was very bad initially, that impression and the preference to not install unnecessary software is why the feeling continues.

Im no EA fanboy don't mistake me for one but I honestly don't understand the EA hate anymore. Or the mindset that Steam is the end all be all market for PC gaming which is just ridiculous.
The top part is just untrue.

Otherwise I must have missed all these record labels pulling their stuff from iTunes and making their own client for their own stuff.

Steam isn't the end all, be all market. There are plenty of places to buy from. Most of my Steam purchases come from GMG.

Steam is the end all, be all distribution method and client. There is zero question about that. Check out what having a game on the front page of steam can do for that game.

Is it right that they're so powerful? Nah, probably not. They are though, that's just a fact. Origin, Ubis **** and the like are basically the Zune to Steams iPod.

            Anyone using the GOG downloader?

Just went to grab the free Mount & Blade and noticed I had 6 games with updates that I am now downloading. Apparently the GOG downloader alerts you to patches/updates.

I just didn't want to have another thing running on the PC at startup and even though it could be disabled, there is no point using it without the alerts.

Do you guys using GOG just check your library for updates every now and then?

Are you talking about the GOG downloader they already have? Or GOG Galaxy (their not-DRM Steam equivalent)?

I ask because if its Galaxy you're asking about, it hasn't been released yet. When it is, the functionality will be similar to Steam (achievements, communities, etc.); however, you will NEVER be required to go online to install/play any of your games. I'm excited for Galaxy as it will help me "move away" from Steam over time.

Lords of Xulima is a good looking title that's def under the radar and was just released on Steam.

Lords of Xulima is a challenging Role-playing game set on the mythical continent of Xulima, where Gods and humans once walked side by side. Experience a genuine RPG featuring over 100 hours of gameplay, and discover one of the most epic sagas ever told.

"This is a game made by devs who have been eating RPGs for breakfast since the early Wizardry/M&M days, so... the best way to enjoy it is to look forward to a challenge and play it like a survival game where resources are very precious (meaning; on higher difficulty settings)."

For those who buy from GOG, how do you launch your games? The old school way of having icons for everything on your desktop? As non-Steam games within Steam?

I'm curious because I have a lot of games in my GOG library I want to play, but want the east of a central launching location. I know this is what GOG Galaxy will do, but I'm looking for an interim solution.

                        Thanks!

I have everything launching from steam. I wanted a centralized launcher too and after searching, found nothing better than steam.

So all my GOG games, other older games or non-DRM from amazon and even origin games all launch from steam. Works well for me.

I was just asking about the downloader but galaxy sounds good.

Just means I have to manually update GOG games at the moment (if updates arrive).
