I can't stop the driver crashing and recovering and also the screen twitching which is due to the memory switching mhz all the time (multiple screens).

Do we have any high end headphone PC users on OS? More specifically any Sound Blaster Z + Headphone users? I'm constantly tweaking my surround sound settings trying to get the best audio, anyone want to take advantage of the profile share feature?

      My current setup

AMP/Sound Card - Sound Blaster Zx
Head Phones - AKG 612 Pro

Pros - Excellent positional audio since they are open ear design. Crystal clear mids and treble. Great for shooters and music fans. Audiophile sound quality a gaming headset can't match. Super comfortable and plush design.

Cons - Higher impedance means you need a amp of some kind to push them. Bass is not as thumping and tight as a closed back. Sound bleed is a side effect of open ear so be aware people will be able to hear what you are listening to.

Also, how much do you value noise in your living room environment because the 290X will also produce a decent amount of noise from the fans spinning to keep the card cool.

I was finally able to return my 970 to Newegg and picked up an EVGA 980 SC ACX 2.0.
I'm looking at the 8GB Vapor-X which is supposed to run pretty cool. It'll be in and itx case, but has direct cooling on the card from the case fan. We'll see how it goes lol. I've just wanted to build a kick *** htpc for a while now.

The noise... well, hopefully I can figure out a way to control it.

I'd double check the length of your available space and make sure the card will fit.

What have you tried so far to fix the problem? What card do you have and what driver version are you using? How many monitors? Does the flickering screen happen on one or all? Does it still happen when only one monitor is connected? Have you checked each monitor individually?

I have a ASUS AMD R9 290. currently don't have any driver issues(at least none that crash my PC), I did at first, but I finally found one my card was stable on, which for me was 14.2. I did have to RMA my card as it had some Firmware issue, but ASUS replaced my card quickly(they shipped a replacement out next day, and I sent in the bad one)

I actually switch from Nvidia cards to ATI about 10 years ago because of bad luck on cards and driver issues with Nvidia cards. seems it just goes back and forth. however, I think for future ATI/AMD cards, I'll stick with Sapphire. I'm still not too happy with the ASUS 290 I have. I have been looking at the newer Nvidia cards, just not sure of the prices and the difference to what I have making it worth it currently.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

I'm having a really weird ARMA 3 issue. Granted it is ARMA 3 which is poorly optimized but I'm wondering if anyone has had this happen to them.

                System
                i5 4690k Devils Canyon
                8 gig gskill 1600 ram
                560 ti video card

Geforce experience optimized settings is basically everything on ULTRA. So I tried it, I'm getting exactly 30 fps, with spikes in the 5 to 6 fps any time I turn my head sharply.

So I said screw geforce experience, let me try just standard for all settings. Yet I'm still getting exact same issue, locked at 30 fps max, but spikes as low as 5 or 6 during fast movement.

So now I'm curious about this issue so I set everything to as low or disabled as possible. Then went back in and yet again same issues. Nothing changed, fps is still locked no higher than 30 fps.

Now here is where it gets weird.

I only changed the mobo, proc, and ram couple weeks ago. Before I had a slower Q6600 proc and only 4 gig ram BUT same 560 ti. I was able to run ARMA 3 on standard settings with frames in the 50s and lows of mid 30s. So obviously its not the video card which is causing this issue.

Lost what could be the problem.

EDIT: Fixed it, back to 50+ frames. For some reason it was maxing out the visual draw in distance of the world and objects. Major slow downs. Took it down to reasonable levels and everything in the world is right.

Tried everything I could. Well, anything I could pick up from people having similar issues on google.

Have the Gigabyte OC 280x card. Drivers are the latest (14.12 I think) and is currently connected to 3 monitors (two PC monitors and a long HDMI cable to a receiver).

PC is only 12 months old and I build my own so know what I'm doing. Had the monitors connected via 1 x DVI and 1 x HDMI (only had one PC screen then) but had bad screen jumping. Figured out that with two screens and the card only having two internal clocks (DVI/HDMI and DP), I couldn't run that setup so I purchased a couple of HDMI-->DP adapters and that fixed it. Still had some memory clock issues since the card idles the memory at 1500Mhz for some reason but it's not a big issue I guess as I read it's normal for multiple screens to increase the memory.

Added a second PC screen just last month so three screens now. With the two internal clocks, couldn't get three screens recognised within windows even though AMD apparently added that feature so purchased an active HDMI--->DP adapter. Haven't installed it yet since the receiver isn't on unless I want to game.

That's about it really and I know PC's but this confuses me. I know the memory increases (GPU clock too) from 300/150 to 500/1500 with multiple screens but right now, it's idling at 300/150 which doesn't make sense. When it jumps, I'll get the twitching screen. Driver display crashing and recovering I have no idea. Case has great air flow and card idles at 33 degrees and goes to about 50 degrees under load.

I will install the active DP adapter soon as that might change a thing but still get these issues even with two screens running. Although I understand having the third plugged in but not in use means it still acts as if three are running.

New steam hardware next week at GDC.

Valve "will show a family of new Steam devices at next week’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Products being demonstrated at GDC include Steam Machines with the final Steam Controller, new living room devices, and a previously-unannounced SteamVR hardware system."
