Were the old PC Rpgs ever turn based like that? I assumed most of them were real-time with pause.

There a lot of JRPGs on Steam/PC(including the Final Fantasies), you just have to accept that they are mostly not AAA offerings. Doesn't mean they aren't good though.

Yeah I always hated grid based RPG's. Oh well.

There were a few, Krondor and Heroes of Might and Magic being classic examples, but that realm is infinitely more popular in Japan.

I thought of HOMM as turn based strategy, but sure, RPG works too.

Yeah, most of what you want Candyman, were never big on PC's. The turn based JRPGs stuck mostly to the SNES and PS1/PS2.

Most old school turn based PC RPGs are grid based, like Wasteland, Fallout 1/2, Ultima, Wizardry, etc.

I completely misread what he wanted, lol, so my mentions are completely wrong.
Not sure I can think of any PC turn based RPGs like that. Septerra Core maybe? Trying to recall, but I think it was basically trying to be a JRPG, don't remember the combat being on a separate from the side screen, seems like it was on the normal map from the normal perspective but turn based without movement.

Again, there are plenty of JRPGs on Steam/PC.

Of course now there is, but I was wondering if that was the case back in the heyday of games like Baldur's Gate?

                      No, not at all.

PC Gaming isn't big in Japan (still to this day) and it was less so back in the 90s. I remember games like FF7 and FF8 getting ported to the PC were a rarity.

Most of the old school PC RPGs were turn based actually. (up until the Infinity Engine games) At least as far as TB vs RtwP goes. You also had your straight up real time RPGs like Dungeon Master, Ultima 7 & Underworlds, Eye of the Beholder....

I do remember Darklands being RtwP, back in 92 though.

Speaking of which, Serpents in the Staglands (which is looking really good and very Darklands inspired) is coming up in May.

A true role-playing adventure. Set in the icy Staglands, this party-based CRPG has you take the role of a trapped god on a perilous journey across a beautiful, deadly peninsula.

I need your wisdom guys. I'm about to do something I said I would never do again. BUY AN AMD VIDEO CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These deals are just to good to pass on.

So here is what we got.

XFX 280 for $179.00 with 10% discount. Then $30 rebate to make it $150

Sapphire 280x for $220 with 10% discount. Then $20 rebate to make it $200

XFX 290 for $270 with 10% discount. Then $20 rebate to make it $250

Sapphire 290x for $300 with 10% discount. Then $20 rebate to make it $280

ASUS 290x for $310 with 10% discount. Then $30 rebate to make it $280

What are your thoughts on these cards for the price points? Its sad but I'm such a Nvidia fan boy, I'm still scared to pull the trigger on a 290x at 280 which is a killer deal when they run comparable to the 970s but have a full 4gig vram.

560ti is long in the tooth now, with 1gig vram. Ive been trying to hold out for the next series of cards but a 290 at $250 sure seems like a lot of video card for the price. Hell it was $290 just 3 weeks ago. Judging from bench marks it does not seem like the extra $30 for a 290x is worth it, 6 to 8 fps does not seem worth it.

I'm thinking the 290 black edition will be mine before end of the day. Just need to double check my case, I have the room.

                                Only up to 5 fps...ewww

That makes me feel even better about my 280x

I'm actually glad that I ended up with an R9 series cats rather than the 7000 series since it's a bit more updated. .I've had no issues
