I want a 34" ultrawide but my wife's resistance to the idea has me waiting a bit... So now I'm targeting one with gsync later this year

Now it's not an IPS or a 4k but I am not really ready hardware wise for those resolution, but what it does is amazing.

The G-synch tech is remarkable. The hitching and stuttering are gone. You have to see it yourselves to understand the differences. As long as you can maintain a 40+ FPS on your game it's as smooth as butter. The fluctuations from 144-40 FPS no longer cause hitches in game play at all.

I can play The Witcher 3 with hairworks on now and I can't tell when the frames dip. The only time there seems to be a slowdown is when it goes below 40 and that was with me fighting 8 wolves. I can honestly take off the Frame Counter and I would never tell the difference.

It's a great upgrade for those wanting to take the plunge.
I love the colors and image sharpness on my 27" Samsung IPS BUT one big thing I hate is the 6ms seek time. It's good in most titles with no tearing but slight ghosting. Since most of the titles I play don't move very fast I don't really notice it often BUT I kind of regret not going 1 or 2ms seek time TN panel.

I will admit, IPS is excellent for color accuracy so it does what its supposed to very good, but it does have a draw back with speed.

Ten Years Later, Star Wars KOTOR II Gets An Official Update

The update just dropped on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux. It’s a doozy—at least, for a game that’s more than ten years old.

            New features include:
            • 37 achievements to be earned through gameplay
            • Steam Cloud saves
            • Native widescreen resolution support
            • Resolution support up to 4K and 5K
            • Support for controllers, including Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4, along with several others (check the system requirements for details)
            • Steam Workshop support! We proudly worked with the Restored Content Mod Team to have their famous TSLRCM up on launch day
            • Oh... and we added a “Force Speed Effects” option in the menu

For those not in the know, the Restored Content Mod is a years-spanning project that aims to return the game to its proper form—rather than the sloppy, stitched together version that was originally released due to publisher pressure and time constraints. The mod adds a handful of endings and the infamous HK Factory—among many other things—and fixes hundreds of bugs. It’s a must-download, and it’s now easy to access on KOTOR II’s Steam Workshop.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

My laptop broke down so I opted instead of dropping $500 on a new school laptop, I'd get back into the PC Gaming scene.

                  Ending up with

Rosewill Mid Tower (Tower appearance wasn't important, included fans and space was)
                  MSI ATX DDR3 Motherboard
                  I5-4590
                  EVGA GTX 970 ACX 2.0
                  8 GB DDR3 RAM
Rosewill 750 W Gold Certified PSU

Ended up dropping about $800 (most of it on the GPU and CPU). [Used Warehouse deals for the PSU and Graphics Card which knocked off almost $200]

This thing is running beautifully, I wish I could've gotten a better monitor, but I didn't want to use too much of my tuition refund on this computer. I took my laptop's SSHD over, since it was just the RAM/CPU that fried (bought the laptop off eBay). I plan on putting in a SSD for the boot partition and maybe a game or two, than a regular HDD that's bigger than the 500 GB (looking at a Seagate 5 TB, have a massive steam library from my old alienware days that I'd like to not have to pick and choose which I download).

Hi everyone, I am looking for a little advice. I am trying to get into PC gaming and need to know if this is a good set up to play the top games out today. I don't need them on ultra high settings just able to play them on good settings with no issues.

Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell 4.0GHz LGA 1150 Quad-Core Desktop Processor
                              16 GB 1600MHZ DDR3
                              2TB Hard Drive 7200RPM
Nvidia Geforce 750 GTX TI 2GB GDDR5 Video Card
                              Windows 8.1
                              750w power supply

                              or
                              AMD FX-6300 3.50GHz Hexa-Core AMD 970 Chipset | 16GB DDR3 | 1TB/8GB SSHD | Genuine Windows 8.1 64-bit
                              Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX960 2GB
Inwin BUC 101 Mid-Tower Case w/600 Watt Power Supply

                              Thanks for any input

Anybody here with multi monitor setups? I'm curious if some of you use Pangobright....it's basically a monitor dimmer so you can focus on the main monitor without the brightness of the other monitors.

I just upgraded to Win 10 and a bit hesitant to use it....
