Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Well there is a couple reasons. I'll also say, I feel the Blue Snowball (not the ICE) is exactly the same sound as the Yeti for half the cost. Snowball is excellent value.
1) Its so sensitive that it requires you to drop the gain to zero OR everyone will hear everything in your house.
2) Its has a "hollow" sound to it and I don't care for it. This can be fixed somewhat with a compressor or software like Voice meter but you will never remove it completely.
Example: With Compressor and Noise reducer (little static sound is from compressor, hate it)
3) It's USB and while this brings simplicity, it also brings headaches. I've had to unplug the mic far to often because Windows 10 just fails to see it anymore and then that requires resetting everything from OBS, Discord, Steam, Windows, etc as seeing the Yeti as the default "recording" device. Total pain in the *** and while it doesn't happen often (once every 2 to 3 months), it's enough that adding to the above issues is pushing me towards another mic.
4) I have this happen every now and then, its like the Yeti sound processor will mess up and I will sound like Frank the Tank Will Ferrel "You got a ****ing dart stuck in your neck"!
Now I will go on to say, I've never heard a complaint from a twitch viewer or someone I'm gaming with about my sound quality. In fact most say it sounds great and I shouldn't make any changes. I think part of it is, I'm super picky when it comes to audio. That goes for just about everything from my truck audio, home, headphones, microphones, and so on.
I'm not saying the Yeti is a bad mic, but a XLR condenser mic should beat it every time and you can find them cheaper than the Yeti.
I will be adding one to my setup in the future.Last edited by Phobia; 08-22-2017, 03:59 PM.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Can you guys recommend great single player games? My internet is so bad that I can't enjoy online gaming.
I already got Witcher 3, Warhammer and all the telltale games. I haven't downloaded them yet since I'll wait in October when I get to AZ for a month.Comment

Skyrim is hours of fun (especially with mods). Also, check out the stuff from Supergiant Games (Bastion, etc.)...they make some great single player experiences.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Agreed on Supergiant Games, although I haven't played their latest, Pyre. Bastion was good, but I loved Transistor.
Here's some recommendations that came out this year.
- Prey - I'm roughly 18 hours into this and it's in the running for my favorite game this year and one of my favorites this generation. It absolutely oozes atmosphere and Mimics are some of the coolest enemy archetypes I've seen in a long while. If immersive sim games like the System Shock/BioShock, Thief, Deus Ex, and Dishonored are your jam, you will really like it. It's currently 50% off and there's also a 1 hour trial to try.
- Hollow Knight - There's a lot of "Metroidvania" games, but this one is definitely in the class with the very best. I feel most of these games stumble a bit on either combat or exploration, but Hollow Knight does both well. The latter it does better than any other one that I've played because of the way the map system works. It doesn't auto-fill, and you have to find a Cartographer and rest at a bench before it does. This could seem like an annoyance, but it works here and adds to the sense of exploration. The lack of immediate information is helped by guidance through landmarks, sign-posting, and NPCs. Story and lore is done in a very Souls-like way, and done so in the best possible way outside of those games themselves. It's a beautiful, dark, charming world with bugs and insects.
- What Remains of Edith Finch - One of those Walking Simulators. Is it a game? I don't know, nor care. The way this inventively uses gameplay to connect you to a character and story would only be possible in this medium. It's short (3-ish hours), but it had me thoroughly entranced from start to finish.
- Cosmic Star Heroin - 16-bit era sprites and reminiscent of Phantasy Star and Lunar. 15-20 hour sci-fi RPG with absolutely no filler, grinding or random battles. Fun Turn-based battle system that allows you to go all out every battle; no MP to worry about. Good characters, humor, and music.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Good Singleplayer games I'd suggest. I've beaten all but Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, and Mount & Blade. All great singleplayer fun.
Note: If you want to live out your huge fantasy of being a knight during medieval times, check out either Mount & Blade Warband or wait for the new one (Bannerlord) coming out soon.
Metro 2033 Series
Sniper Elite Series
Wolfenstein Series
Wasteland 2
South Park Stick of Truth
Pillars of Eternity
Alpha Protocol
Spec Ops: The Line
Mount & Blade WarbandComment

I'm so over this cryptomining bull****!!!!
Team Green & Red better get their **** together on the GPU industry, releasing GPU's for gaming which are sold out instantly from every distributor is terrible!
I was going to bite the bullet and upgrade my Radeon 290 to the new Vega 56 yesterday BUT Nooooooooooooooooo of course they sold out within minutes to cryptominers.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I've never really seen rumors, but for $12 you can't really go wrong.
I've had KF2 for a long time, heh. Still need to figure out if my friends want some of these extra codes so I can get rid of them here/elsewhere.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Well tried the Nvidia Shield to stream PC games to my 4K TV...did not work well at all..so many issues, I don't even know where to start to fix them all (some games didn't show up, others did but downscaled to 1080p, my mouse flickered, Blizzard games just dropped me to the desk top, etc..) so next week I'm taking it back to Best Buy for a refund....
After trying several long HDMI cables (50 foot from Amazon worked but blinked in and out, the 30 foot worked great but too short, then 50 foot from Microcenter didn't work at all) and now this and not having much luck I guess I'll just do my PC gaming on the big screen the old fashioned way and that is to carry the f'ing PC into the game room and plug it up to the 4K tv directly.
Very upset that this did not work, I thought it'd be the end all solution to fixing it so I could game from my PC on my big screen...Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Well I can tell you one thing, you are not shooting a 4k signal over that distance for damn sure. I'd be shocked if you could get a 1080p signal reliably at 50 foot without an amplifier, mayyyybee 720 you could without one.Well tried the Nvidia Shield to stream PC games to my 4K TV...did not work well at all..so many issues, I don't even know where to start to fix them all (some games didn't show up, others did but downscaled to 1080p, my mouse flickered, Blizzard games just dropped me to the desk top, etc..) so next week I'm taking it back to Best Buy for a refund....

So I'd say your cable length issue is fixable with some kind of amplifier

Now your set top box issue is an entire other animal of problems. I personally would never want to go that route because of input lag but I'm sure there is a solution. Steam link seems like the most logical decision but its only 1080p at 60fps, it sounds like you are wanting to get 4K from a set top with a cable run of over 40 foot. That's a hell of a challenge considering where we are currently with 4K gaming(relatively new).Comment
