Haven't bought anything yet, just been browsing. Every time I come across something I like, find out I already own it. Then I go back to browsing. I miss the old format of these Steam Sales, it was much easier to navigate. This new format is too time consuming.

I like to use this site during Steam sales.

          https://steamdb.info/sales/

With discount and rating percent filters, new discounts, hide owned games, and many tags, I find it easier to find things of interest and hidden gems. I think Enhanced Steam also does most of this.

For me it's been just indies that past few sales.

          Winter:

I might pick up a few more things before this sale is over, but I'm starting to become hesitant on buying things that I might play eventually. Like I'm kind of interested in some Final Fantasy games because Square hasn't put them on sale the past couple of sales, but I don't know if I will play them.

Indies are great not just because they offer new and unique things, but a lot of them aren't huge time sinks.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

Figured I'd run this by my OS brothers and see what your thoughts on this.

            So my current build is

            i5-4690k
            Sapphire Tri-X 290X OC
            16 Gb DDR3 Ram
            ASRock Fatality Z97 Mobo
            SSD drives

I was planning what parts I was going to use for a new build this month, but have taken a step back. I was leaning heavy towards the Intel 8700k but then backed off and fell towards the Multitasking of the Ryzen 1700x. Reason for this, with streaming you have lots of programs open, OBS, Browser, Chat Window, Music, Discord, Game, etc. So procs like the I5 get easily brought to it's knees. While the i7s have great single core speeds for gaming, they are slightly behind the multitasking of the Ryzen's 8 cores.

Upon further research I saw the new Ryzen 2's will be coming out in Q1 to Q2, so I figured it would be better to ride out my i5 until they are released. What's your thoughts on this plan?

Next, I'm kind of unsure what to do about my GPU situation. Do I keep the 290x, it runs everything out there great. Hell I'm getting 100+ frames in PUBG since 1.0 was released.

It doesn't seem that far behind the 1080's, roughly 25% behind. (Side note: I only do 144hz 1080p gaming, no resolutions higher are needed)
            http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index...force-gtx-1080

My conundrum is bit mining has caused prices to go up rather than down this generation of cards. I feel real ****ty buying a 1070 or 1080 at roughly the same price they were at launch, almost 2 years ago. It just doesn't sit right with me. I was thinking of waiting for Nvidia's new 20X0 Volta series and ride out the 290x until Q2 of this year, do you think that is a smart move?

            What you guys think?

Divinity of Sin 2 is such a good game. Picked it up a couple of days ago. I had been going back and forth because reading the reviews it seemed overwhelming. But wow if you like RPG you must try it.

If I were you I'd just wait it out. Especially since you can run games fine right now.

I think that sounds like the best route and then of course this gets released today

So I'm super nervous how slow my i5 4690k will be after the update

A significant vulnerability has been discovered in all Intel processor chips and it’s going to have a huge impact going forward. The Register first

That stuff is going to tank virtualization, but from what I've read most games don't use the kernel so we won't be affected much.

Hopefully so, I know the windows 10 patch will be here soon so I'm going to benchmark tonight. Once the patch drops, benchmark again and see how many frames I lose.

I was leaning Ryzen 2 to begin with but this just sealed it up, as long as my i5 can hold out until their release.

I'm in a similar spot hardware-wise, itching to upgrade the same i5. I'm done w/ AMD though if I can help it, will wait longer for an Intel solution where possible.

1080Ti though, just kinda wary of the CPU becoming a bottleneck in games at some point.

The first Big Format Gaming Display, coming later this year from ACER, ASUS and HP, are 65 inches, run at 4K at 120Hz, have G-SYNC technology, HDR with 1000 nit peak brightness, and an integrated NVIDIA SHIELD, giving you instant access to Netflix, Amazon Video and YouTube at 4K, NVIDIA GameStream, Android games and apps, and much more.

I want to know how much this is going to cost.

That’s gonna be at least 2 grand. No need for one until they have a gpu that can handle that. At least I know what I’ll get in 2020
