Was looking for the thread but there isn't one.

I've been playing since EA release and it's an absolute blast.

Just like Post Scriptum though, it's way better than a structured squad. I re-enlisted with 7cav for this game and couldn't be happier.

Would be glad to help bring some more aboard if anyone is interested, let me know! Even if not, add me on Steam and we'll give it a go.

How would you compare it to Post Scriptum?

Well I think HLL looks better, plays a little smoother. Surely they still need more optimization. Both games put a premium on having a good Commander and Squad Leaders, and the more the entire squad follows orders the more fun the game is. This obviously leads to a lot of frustration and disorganization in pickup games with randoms, so very similar in that aspect.

The maps and game modes in PS are more spread out, so there's less time spent traveling in HLL and more action more frequently. That said, you can still run A LOT if SL's aren't utilizing Garrison's and Outposts correctly, and the maps are plenty big enough to flank objectives while not always being in the center of the battle.

Back-caps are super important in HLL - you can be on your next objective and lose your previous and have to start over. Have seen very big swings in matches where you can be dominating and close to victory only to be pushed back, sometimes all the way and end up losing.

I haven't spent any time in vehicles, and I think PS does them better, specifically with MSPs and such.

I'm really enjoying it. The games are similar in that they're more realistic and not like every other shooter out there. Frustration from dying without seeing your enemy pays off 10 fold when take your time and work together. Very gratifying. Overall I think HLL has the potential to be a great game especially as they keep working and adding and fixing stuff. Thankfully leaning is coming in the next update, which is much needed.

I suck at shooters on the PC. I'm trying to get better, but it's discouraging when I'm just not very good with mouse and keyboard, but I can fire up BFV on PS4 and consistently have a 3.0 KDR.

I'd like to get into some of these more tactical shooters like Post Scriptum, Squad, etc. but I play a game like Insurgency and I'm awful at it so I don't want to waste the money to buy another game I'm awful at lol.

I know winning isn't everything, but it's also not fun getting smacked around.

Anyone else played mostly console games their entire life and then try to get into PC gaming? If so was it a smooth transition? I know I could play with a controller for a lot of games, but the best mouse and keyboard player and best controller player regardless of sensitivity settings aren't on an even playing field and that's why most people frown upon mouse and keyboard on consoles.

As of right now I mostly just use my PC for strategy, RTS, MMO, etc. type stuff because shooters are no good. I want to get better though because I'd like to be able to play Halo Infinite down the road.

I made the jump from being a console player but by the time I built my PC I was already done with multi-player games so it's not really an issue for me. I'll never be a mouse and keyboard person.

I've played console my whole life other than Diablo and age of empires on pc. Everyone I know including myself was pure garbage at shooters when we transitioned over. It just takes time and practice to get used to it. Find a DPI and sensitivity setting and stick with it in every game. I personally use 600 DPI and my in game mouse sensitivity is on the far low end. I think in Apex it's like 0.8 sensitivity.

I'd say play a game where it's not as intense or allows some sort of reaction time. Insurgency, squad, and the like aren't going to let you react and get adjusted to aiming. I'd say games like battlefield, portal 1/2, or anything that is more casual and allows you to get more repitition.

I switched over to PC gaming because of PUBG. What I did was just hot drop into pochinki every single round. It was rough at first, but now we can typically come out alive with a few kills under our belts.

I've been getting really comfortable with keyboard and mouse since making the switch earlier this year.

It took me a while but playing through Metro (the first one) really got me up to speed. It was that or being eaten alive by creatures.

Now, I just started playing Enter the Gungeon and I tried going controller after playing a bit on keyboard and mouse, and yuck. The game just isn't as fluid on a controller. So much more control and smoothness with that mouse.

I don't think I could go back with exception being sports games or games where it's essentially required.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

I usually am better at shooters on the PC. However, Squad, Post Scriptum, and ArmA, plus other similar games I am not near as good at. Faster paced shooters that are more reflex and closer combat I am good at. CSGO, Battlefield, etc. The first set of games I mentioned, not so much. Why? My eyes are terrible lol. You know what I do in those games? Play as medic every single chance I can. I have a blast doing it, too. Maybe you won't enjoy it, but I honestly have as much fun playing Squad and getting revive after revive, keeping my squad healed, and being one of the highest scoring players in the entire match with something like 3 kills and 4 deaths. When I try and play other roles I do not have the eye sight to be consistently good. If you place me in a nice spot I can sit still and hide for 10 minutes waiting to kill whoever walks down the road or through a clearing then I am better because I have the jump on them, but when running with a squad I hardly ever actually see the enemy. While this isn't exactly what you were saying, I still think you may be able to enjoy these games taking on a role like medic and getting used to the game and then making the jump to become more of a killer and helping the team that way.

There are 2 ways to get better at mouse/keyboard aside from practice.

#1) Mouse speed - Slower is better, to many people are use to browsing the web with 1200dpi and then jump into a game to only lack fine control. Start at 400dpi, it will feel so slow, but force yourself to stay with it. Now setting your mouse to 400 dpi then jumping in a game doesn't mean it will be correct. Every game does sensitivity different, so you need to base your "in-game" setting on mouse movement by inches to a 180 degree turn. Easiest way to tune, (mouse is already set to 400 dpi), launch the game, go into a match, line your left shoulder up on a wall, and one slow swipe across the pad should move 180 degree looking down right wall. Adjust each in-game sensitivity the first time you launch the game, then every game will feel the same from that point on.

This is extremely important for muscle memory aka flick/snap shots. You shouldn't focus on these early until you get a real good feel for your mouse speed. Instead focus on seeing the target and guiding the mouse dot on target.

#2) Aim Placement - I'd say this is one of the most common issues I see on a day to day basis. I play a lot of PUBG and spectate a lot of players. Aim placement is easily the most likely culprit people die or get out played consistently. You will see common trends such as, their aim pointing at the lower portion of the screen, which is due to looting. Constantly scoped in and losing large amounts of screen space which holds valuable info. Running up to a building complex but placing the aim point willy nilly anywhere on the screen, only to catch a few rounds sooner than they can deliver because they have to make far longer and much more difficult mouse movements than the other person who more than likely is utilizing better aim placement.

It's constantly overlooked because it's very subconscious. You have to work at the mental gymnastics of being mindful of that tiny aim point at every point of a match. "Will I give myself the greatest chance, if they peak this door? How long will my snap swipe have to be if they appear on this roof edge? Will I lose sight of players because I'm looking down all the time?" etc.

I'd focus on those 2 areas to get better quicker. Practice will help, but early bad habits won't! Make sure every game doesn't have a different mouse feel and constantly analyze where your aim placement is.

This is a very short clip I grabbed to highlight both of these. Focus on the dot in the beginning portion, it's all happening very fast, so playing the video at 1/2 speed might show it better. My aim placement is following the top of the hill so I limit my movement plane to only left or right, if my dot was lower for instance and looking down at the hill, its now two movements of both vertical & horizontal. After the kill my next thought is, "where is the second guy"? Trace the second window with the aim dot. If a target appears its a short small movement, compared to constantly replying on a long snap like what happens right after. It's a percentage game, giving yourself the greatest % chance of success.

Lastly at the end, is pure comfort with my mouse speed. A quick snap/swipe and the sight lands right on target (Higher % of mistake).

I think you're on to something about DPI and sensitivity. I play at or near 100% sensitivity in everything on PS4. I know for BF1 I was at 100% with a really high FOV setting Now on BFV I'm at 75% so even on a controller I can turn 180 on someone shooting me in the back really fast. I also have all of the DICE extra assists and settings that adjust your aim for you disabled or at a low #.

The mouse I have has the 4 DPI settings and 400 does feel really slow to me, but I'll try to get used to playing like that. I think I'm just not used to having so many options to cater things to how I like. I'll try the mouse map thing tonight. Here's the pad I have so it's a pretty good size.

Thanks for all of the really good advice. I'll do some experimenting tonight.

You are on the right track, stick to 400 dpi. Place your left edge of the mouse on the left edge of your mouse pad, slowly move the mouse until the right edge touches the right edge of mouse pad. Now adjust every games in game sensitivity where one swipe across rotates your guy 180 degrees. Now from the center of the pad you will get very use to quick left or right swipes that don't go to the edge but will be 45 degree of aim adjustments. If you are utilizing proper aim placement your mouse movement should not extend outside of that 45 degree cone. Naturally there are times where you have a target behind you, but those instances just become about big arm swings plus pick ups.

The QcK medium is 12"x10" which in my experience is small. I currently run the Logitech G640 which is 18"x16" and I feel it is the best size, unless you go with a PC gaming master race pad.

                        18 x 36

Once you adjust to a slower mouse and realize it's not all wrist movement but big swiping arm movements, you will appreciate the bigger pad and what it allows you to do with less pickups.

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.
