I feel like this would be mentioned a little more, no?

I also feel like this would have been the first thing I would have mentioned upon three minutes of playing a game on PS4. I would say make sure your settings are correct, but if Blu-rays are operating correctly then I wonder if there's something else to consider.

Some games have actual audio options to change the surround settings. Do all PS4 games have this possibly?

Seems to be fine for Killzone. After researching I guess it impacts certain games like nba2k and battlefield. There seems to be no sound from center channel.

I didn't notice until I had to reset my reciever settings after my daughter touched some buttons. ...when I was testing I was listening to each speaker and nothing from the center channel.

      I guess Sony is aware.

What I did for the blu ray issue was when it asks to connect to the internet, select no and I can watch any movie with no problem. I had the freezing issur with The Amazing Spider Man.

OK, here's an important detail about these formats, and I'm going to bold it because I think many will find it useful to know (not trying to be aggressive about it, just want as many people to see this as possible, because the menus don't make it even remotely obvious, which is Sony's fault):

Linear PCM only provides multichannel surround sound via HDMI. It's not a bug, but a standards thing, optical just won't carry it. You still get sound over the optical connection when set to Linear PCM, but it's a stereo mixdown. If it appears to still be surround, that's because your receiver is applying some ****ty pro logic type of thing to upmix it, which totally sucks.

Bitstream Dolby Digital and Bitstream DTS are the only settings that give proper 5.1 surround over optical. Or even a proper sub channel for that matter.

So you can avoid the stuttering/dropping by using Linear PCM with optical, but what you're really doing is turning off surround sound.

If you're having problems with audio on the PS4, please chime in in this support thread: https://community.us.playstation.com.../td-p/42169325

Also, a friend made a video demonstrating it, which could help explain it if you deal with Sony in some way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCNhlWOI05A

I'm not sure if Sony has officially acknowledged the problem, so it would be nice if we could raise awareness a bit.

edit: My bad, I see you're already doing pcm thru hdmi. Are your settings set properly with HDMI as your primary output? Because I know that if you want stereo mixdown over HDMI, you have to choose optical as your primary output (and set it to whatever surround format). If you want it over optical, set the primary output to HDMI. Maybe you're set at optical as your primary output? There's always a stereo mix being output on whatever you don't have set to primary for some reason.

Yes, I have HDMI as the primary. I have my receiver set to play all sound as A.F.D. auto(plays sound as it was recorded with no added effects).

Blueray's play as intended and as I researched I see Killzone plays as intended as well(I tested it...so I know it does).

Seems to effect certain games like NBA and Battlefield. Most people probably don't realize its not outputting to center channel because the receiver lights up, or they have some post processing set up that simulates the audio across all channels.

I tested my PS3 and everything is still good there. There are threads on the playstation support forum and all over the net about it. Like I said I only noticed it because I was checking my set up, so I am sure others probably have same issue and don't realize it.

What about if my Xbox One is connected via HDMI, outputting Linear PCM to my TV and then the TV optical out goes to my A/V receiver?

I have optical going from my system straight to my soundbar. Am I getting true Dolby Digital? HDMI is just used for video.

Depends on the TV as far as I know. Mostly a TV's optical out is to send OTA broadcast's surround to a receiver, but I'm sure some TV's will retransmit the surround from the HDMI in to the optical.
