I have a quick question for you digital guys out there..

If you buy a game on the PS Store, at what time can you start downloading it? I purchased EA UFC on the PS Store and I'd like to start downloading ASAP, my internet is terrible and all time is sparred. I'm on Pacific Time if that matters, too.

There's no solid answer to that - it depends on when they make it available in the store. For some titles it's midnight eastern, for others it's the store update on Tuesday afternoon. And even for the midnight ones there's no guarantee it's going to be up right at midnight (see The Show debacle).

For UFC, I see it listed as Day 1 Digital, but nothing about it being available at midnight. So I'd guess it'll be up with the store update tomorrow afternoon. One of the guys who actually preordered it digitally might know for sure, though - you might try asking in the UFC forum.

Also, we're supposed to be able to preload games (that is, download them before the release date and be able to play them at midnight) at some point, but I don't know if that's started yet, or when it will.

This question has been asked once (at least from what I have seen) in the EA MMA forum and nobody (that I saw) had an answer. I am not sure if EA UFC is a game you can pre-load or not.

Destiny in September will he the first game you can preload. Kinda looks like it's a paid service or something because there are plenty of titles that could use that feature between the last patch and September.

I have another question as well. If I go to sleep tonight, and leave my PS4 on standby, will it start downloading by itself? I'm hoping you don't have to manually download it.

I'm not sure system updates and game patches are even downloading while in standby, so no I don't think a preordered game will auto download either.

Yup, Destiny in September. After that any game that you can pre-order on the PSN Store will have the pre-load ability.

I can confirm that it automatically pre-loads. I purchased Destiny on the store and got a message saying it will automatically start downloading a couple days prior to when the game drops. Good business by Sony.

So I went ahead and got that hybrid HD discussed earlier, it will be here tomorrow. Dumb question, but there is no way to transfer over the files from one HD to the other is there? I doubt there is, but was just wondering if there is any way to avoid having to re-install and re-download everything

No way to back up data on the PS4, so you have to reinstall/download unfortunately. Only thing you can back up are saves.

Some Indie games that was announced for the PS4 at E3 which may have been missed. Some look interesting. Some, I have no idea. Here is a list from USGamer highlighting them.

Everybody's Gone to Rapture
Unless you're particularly Zen-like or completely indifferent to the notion of the sun spontaneously imploding in random celebration of Murphy's Law, chances are you've wondered about what it might be like if the world were to simply end. The Chinese Room's Everybody's Gone to Rapture will explore the repercussions of precisely such an event. It has a scientist in its heart, a promise to be powerful, deep and laser-focused on your emotional journey. Everybody's Gone to Rapture will also apparently feature something really cool but we're not going to be told what just yet. Consider yourself pre-hyped.

SOMA
Tired of all that sweetness, light and storybook beauty? Check out Frictional Games' SOMA. This upcoming science fictional survival horror game is the latest in the Swedish company's stable of PTSD-inducing terrors. Based on what has been revealed so far, it looks like SOMA, which is set in a remote search facility where no one can hear you scream, draws some amount of inspiration from the SCP Foundation, a fictional(?) repository of weird, supernatural objects and entities. There are supposed to be machines capable of imitating human behavior and all that such suspicious conduct implies.

Pavilion
Pavilion is a labyrinth of ornate hedge mazes and stained glass art, a thing of beauty that looks more interactive oil painting than game. I could just be projecting. Pavilion, for all of its puzzles and environmental challenges, makes me want to do nothing but painstakingly explore its every nuance which, judging by early impressions of the game, seems perfectly in line with what the developers have envisioned for Pavilion.

RIME
A desolate, enchanting island that bleeds "scenic" from every pebble. A distant mountain. An enigmatic young boy trussed up in a red cloak. Tequila Works' Rime looks like it was inspired by just about everything that is good in this world : Princess Mononoke, Salvador Dali, Spirited Away. Journey. ICO. According to an interview with Analog Addiction, this "open-world adventure" is a story with no words, a game that pivots on an environmental narrative.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
The first Hotline Miami was a top-down 2D madhouse of liquid neon colors and unapologetic violence, a psychadelic dream you will either love or experience great trepidation in the company of. Or both. Both was totally possible. Given the amazing response the original received, it should probably be no surprise that the sequel subscribes to a similar formula. That said, Hotline Miami 2 wouldn't be very good if it was just the same game twice.

Starbound
The developers call it an "extraterrestrial sandbox adventure game", an appropriate description given the kind of shennanigans it will allow. As a refugee from some distant planet, it is very much your right to explore the universe and do whatever the heck you please. Hundreds of procedurally generated creatures, items and worlds are apparently just waiting for you to make first contact.

The Talos Principle from Gameszone report
The Talos Principle tasks players with solving a series of increasingly difficult and complex puzzles – all woven into an overarching metaphysical parable about intelligence and meaning in an inevitably doomed world,” a statement from Devolver reads. “Solve more than 120 puzzles through the eyes of an advanced AI construct and unveil your significance at the behest of your creators.”

The Talos Principle is developed with Serious Engine 4T, which “allows real-world locations and historical elements to be scanned into the game world,” and penned by Tom Hubert, best known for his work on FTL: Faster Than Light and The Swapper.

Speaking of pre-loading, this is interesting -

Link

Sony may begin selling PlayStation 4 systems with digital copies of select Activision games already loaded onto them so they are ready for purchase, according to Baird analyst Colin Sebastian.
One point of interest from our conversations at the show is the possibility that Sony may preload digital copies of Destiny and Diablo on all PS4 consoles beginning this fall (users still can choose whether to purchase), which should drive higher sell-through for Activision, but at the cost of retail sales

I am normally against buying indie games, especially at full price, but I would be lying if I said Sony doesn't have some interesting titles headed our way. I will probably wait on a price drop still, but see myself picking a few of these up for sure.
