Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
What kind of procedures can they put in place to keep these types of attacks from happening?

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
So nothing. These type of stunts are pulled by people not old enough to understand the reprecussions and are really about getting attention because there is never any politically statement behind it. As long as cheap bot nets can be rented for cheap you will keep having immature DDOS attacks on video game servers.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Nothing really. Some sites like Google have massive amount of bandwidth that can mitigate such attacks. A lot of companies like Amazon and Netflix can probably withstand such attacks too. But the real problem is that the websites above aren't really targets. When people pull this **** it's typically to troll a massive amount of people. Since the typical people who pull these shenanigans are teenagers they typically go after what their age group enjoys.

Tech 1 Hey Marvin, take a look at this
Tech 2 That's alot of data overload, looks like we're being Dos attacked
Tech 3 Wow, this is not good, what are we gonna do
Tech 1 and 2 We can't do anything, just sit here and wait until they finish
Tech 3 What are we gonna tell the bosses about this
Tech 2 Well the teenagers have the advantage over us so we're screwed, just add in that we're doing maintenance so people will think we're working on it.
Yeah, thats about how it goes I guessComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The attacks that happened to Sony last year had to do with a group called Lizard Squad that apparently really hated Sony for some reason. It's the reason why more attacks went after Sony than Xbox. Hell, they even did a bomb threat to the SOE's presidents flight. I don't know why they are so hell bent on attacking Sony.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Its really weird how MS doesn't get slammed as often as Sony. I don't know all of their options or procedures but I bet there is a difference between the 2.
So basically they're paying useless techs

Anyone who is still calling these interruptions of service "hacks" and to do something about these "hackers" after all these times should really read thegut's last two posts and the links he provided.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I guess my question is what are the penalties for these ddos attacks? Is anyone going to jail for this? That might be the only way to truly "stop them," by making the risk/reward too intense to justify the trolls doing it in the first place?
Maybe in the long run its just not a big enough deal for law enforcement to dedicate a lot of resources to? I dunno, would love input here."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

I just typed in DDoS and my name (because I remember us in here discussing this subject years ago and in multiple instances).
Some of the same people that seem upset (and you have every reason to be) were definitely around for these same discussions back then. So it's not like they haven't been educated on the subject. Short memories I guess.Comment

The problem is most attackers aren't caught.
