I understand why companies introduce motion controls, VR and other gimmicky ways to play video games. But what's wrong with a controller? The controller has been around for what, four decades? Why do companies feel the need to reinvent the wheel?

      We've got to keep evolving!

While I agree, the most convenient and comfortable way to game is with a good old fashioned controller. But eventually there has to be a new medium to playing games.

Eventually VR will be here full force (Capt Obvious checking in), but it's going to take a first and second and probably third tries and respective failures to get it right.

Don't worry. They'll keep constantly failing and realize that they were dumb for trying to push it.

There's a reason the WiiU completely went away from what the Wii built.

That's what gaming companies have been saying for awhile now and each attempt has failed miserably. I agree that introducing new ways to play is nothing new and will happen, it just seems as it will fail just like every other attempt to introduce new gaming tech.

I've had no interest in VR at all since Oculus was first announced. What it offers doesn't appeal to me. I guess VR makes you feel "apart" of the game but any decent game with a good story and characters already does that without VR.

I totally agree and am more than content sitting on my couch with a controller.

I do however think it's important to keep pushing boundaries even if it doesn't appeal to everyone or be a 100% hit in its first attempt.

VR has been done before. I don't know why this will be different.

I think the only difference is its just getting "bigger and better," right? Better response time/input lag/immersion/visual fidelity?

Why wouldn't it be different though? That's like saying things won't be different (improve) between this generation of consoles and the next.

If Microsoft can ever figure out how to work around the (currently) ****ty limitations of the Hololens, that will be bigger (in gaming) than VR could ever hope to be.

VR is a dead end in gaming.

Disagree, I would buy into VR waaaaaaaaay before Hololens (and I'm not gung-ho about buying into VR unless it's going to be like half of what I expect of the price). There are games I have played, and types of games I want to play, that are perfectly suited for VR. I can't think of a single counterpart for Hololens.

                          I think theyre all gimmicks.

Just not sure we're at that point when we cant even keep steady frame rates at 1080p yet

If it's anything like this down the pike then it should be amazing.

The Tiltbrush demo towards the end of the video was mind blowing to me. Just check it out please. (unless you've already seen it of course)

I'm a wait and see on VR....They said everyone would have 3D TVs and watch everything in 3D and that died fast.

VR has more potential, but not convinced it's there yet.
