infrastructure load, I imagine its a carry over from the "free" online service that was in place on PS3. A free service had its draw backs, one was they throttled the speeds. The problem is now we are paying for the service but the cap is still in place, limiting our PSN speeds. In the end like anything else, I bet it falls on the almighty dollar is why its still in place.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Let me reword this to be better understood.
You can use the server browser built into the PS4 to clearly see the limit lies with PSN. Go to speedtest.net on your hardlined PC and run a speed test.
Mine comes up around these speeds.
Now turn on your PS4, open up the web browser and go to speedtest.net webpage or another 3rd party speed test to run test through the PS4. You will "most likely" get much higher speeds than what the "PS4" is stating is your speeds.
I get speeds like this (I'm on work pc so just using this as example of speed difference I see between PSN vs 3rd party).
The reason for this, the PS4 system "speed test" runs through the PSN service which houses the limiter.
Google Playstation 4 speed cap and you will find topic after topic. There is one somewhere with a Sony employee admitting there is a limiter in place.
The speedtest.net test just shows that the PS4 (with the help of someone else's server) is capable of downloading at high speeds.
It's possible that there's a limiter, but it could be anything else too. Old infrastructure, poor routing, overload. Really anything.
I've had high PSN speeds before which is why I just don't think it's a limiter. The high speeds were even done after PSNs speed test told me that my speeds were lower.
I think everyone can agree, though, that PSN needs to be improved. My whole point was that the speed rating is only as accurate as the download server being used for the test.Last edited by sbauer318; 07-10-2015, 03:10 PM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I just ran three tests against PSNs download servers. The test involved download 1.2GB pkg for an app.
First test ran at 4.0MB/s which is about 40% of my download speed.
Second test ran at 7.1MB/s which is about 71%.
Third test started at 7.5MB/s and dropped to 3.5MB/s and then eventually bumped up to 4.5MB/s.
Looks like Sony uses two CDNs as well - Akamai and Limelight. Calling Akamai directly gave me those speeds so maybe it's a difference in CDNs.
Edit: Limelight pkg is giving me > 7MB/s consistently.
Who knows. Those CDNs use locations all over the world, so the server depends on your location, which is why some people had success with DNS changes. Are they paying for certain speeds? It's tough to say.Last edited by sbauer318; 07-10-2015, 03:42 PM.Comment

I'll run some tests with screen grabs tonight of both wireless & hardlined.Comment

Right. I'm just not technically signed into PSN so no authentication tokens are being passed around. It's like I'm just some random client/server.Comment

I'll probably be buying a new hard drive soon, but I'm waiting for Amazon Prime Day.
