Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Just looking at my OG PS4 now, and yeah that Slim is going to be noticeably smaller. Just in height alone, and as far as total mass index.
Not too shabby. And I noticed the two smaller LED lights sitting in two vent holes above the Power/Eject buttons.
Wonder if the whole top is swappable (probably not, lol) like the 'HDD Cover' on the OG, or they are just not worrying about it with the Slim.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The slim PS4 doesn't much look worth it over the PS4 IMO, it's not really that much smaller. It saves mostly thickness I guess, but what difference does that make really? What it does do, however, is probably save Sony a boatload of money in manufacturing.
Since the Neo seems to share a similar design philosophy with the slim, I wonder if the stylized miniature PS4 breakout box for the PSVR will get a new look before release.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Because if the final devkits go out in early September and Neo gets released in October, you have to think that the console is already in the manufacturing stage. Neo first emerged at GDC in March when Sony was talking to publishers about it. Less than six months is not enough time to start changing specs. Plus, the devkits that publishers already have then would be useless because of the spec change. And it's actually more like three months because Sony didn't expect Microsoft to just go all out with Scorpio. Three months is simply not enough time. And delaying Neo until early 2017 is not going to happen because Sony would miss the holiday shopping season plus effective October 1st, all games are required to have a Neo mode. This tells me Neo is coming sooner rather than later.
Power is everything. If it wasn't, Neo and Scorpio wouldn't exist. Sony and especially Microsoft want their consoles to match high end PC's so they definitely need to be powerful. Personally, I still believe that Neo is due to PSVR (and yes, JareBear will disagree with me on this forever) and Scorpio is due to Microsoft wanting to have a "do over" for this generation. It's all about the power. It's the power and increased specs that will give you better resolution, frame rates, 4K, etc. Consoles can't go lower and still give that to consumers.
Price wise, im still sticking with base PS4 dropping to $300 and Neo being $400 for the 500GB. Sony would be stupid to go higher than that even though I do see them releasing a 2TB GT Sport bundle for $500. The base PS4 was $400 and three years later, consoles get cheaper, not a new more expensive model. Scorpio is rumored to be $600 or higher. I believe the extra year will allow Microsoft to lower the price and launch it at $400. Microsoft will take the loss on the console in order to get it into gamers households.
Console manufacturers rarely if ever make money on the consoles. They make the majority of their money on software and subscriptions but you can only do that if you get people to purchase the console. Making the console cheaper than expected is how they accomplish that goal. It's all about getting the console in the consumer's household first and foremost because if you can't accomplish that, nothing else matters.
I understand about having to manufacture the consoles but we don't even know for sure what the specs where that Sony was thinking about in the first place. The leak was months and months ago and again there where rumors about Sony and 2 different NEO specs that they where thinking about. What's to say that the leaked specs where the lowest specs that Sony was thinking about using and that Sony didn't just go with there second idea about having a NEO with higher specs? What's to say that when Sony started thinking about the NEO that they thought about using 4.2 TF but also thought well maybe we can go a little higher and go to 5 TF? So because those specs are months old from the leak and because we don't even know 100% if they where going to truly use those specs in the first place how do we know that they even need to really change specs to get higher specs then those leaks in the first place? I don't get why people believe those leaks and I don't get why considering the rumor about 2 NEO specs why people believe that Sony didn't have a idea about having higher specs in the first place? When it comes to Scorpio I am not sure that the specs surprised Sony even I think it was how early Microsoft talked about it.
No power is not ever thing. Sony brad Name is much bigger then Microsoft when it comes to video games people trust Sony much more because Sony is consider much better at making reliable hardware, better games and even smaller systems. I don't care how powerful a console is if it where to cost 1000 and have zero games know one would buy it. I have heard people talking about how much Scorpio may cost and I have heard some people say 400 and I have heard another people say 600 and I am not sure if they are going to sale it at a lost or not. Xboxone slim 2 TB only cost 324 to make yet it cost 400 to buy it. I do believe that NEO will cost 400 maybe 450. I think you could get a lot more with that price then you could have back in 2013 power wise and I think Sony is smart enough to not charge 500-600. Yes I know most money doesn't come from the sales of the system but more so from games and controllers and such.
Sony would just show games like they did last year. If the games don't sell or move units for the base PS4, then Neo and PSVR isn't going to do anything. Japan is like 95% mobile or some crap like that. Consoles are basically dead on arrival in Japan. That culture and region is far different from NA and Europe where consoles still do very well. Besides, it's the games that will move the consoles. If the games don't do it, nothing else will.
I'm actually enjoying this gen more than last gen thus far and it should only increase for me. There are things that I still hate and think is a rip-off but the games themselves have been good or better for me. Yeah, I have a few games that I finished in the 6-7 range but for the most part, the majority of games that I have finished are at least an 8 or higher.
If I was to include past gens and buy back those consoles, my backlog would easily be in the hundreds but simply time to move on from the past and move forward with games.
As someone who completed both TR games 100%, ROTTR is easily far better in every way. Crystal Dynamics did the big open-ended areas correctly as opposed to Naughty Dog who did the same with Uncharted 4 but the difference is that both games are different in style and premise. The open-ended areas in Uncharted 4 were basically just empty filler or for you to drive the jeep around. Some of it was cool and good but at the same time, underwhelming and disappointing mainly because it's not what Uncharted is meant to be. ROTTR is meant for exploration, scavenging, gathering, etc. and in that regard, the big area maps are a success. Story and characters are the weak spot in ROTTR but it's better than TR 2013 and everything else is top notch so it makes up for it. I still think that ROTTR is thus far Xbox One's best exclusive game. Granted, that's only for another six weeks but still, that's saying something.
I'm double dipping on ROTTR because I definitely want to play it again and want to play the Lara Croft Manor story as well as all the other DLC. Plus, being disappointed with Uncharted 4, I definitely need to wash that taste out of my mouth so that's another reason why I want to play it. TR 2013 was good but ROTTR is better in every way. Have to wait and see how TLG does because it's in a bad spot. Too packed imo.
I think last gen is the best of all time and that this gen there have been to many games that have had there release date pushed back but I do think this gen is starting to pick up. Well I wish I had more time so I could have no backlot of games but I like going back and playing older games from time to time. I don't know how any one could ever sale there old systems and games. Interesting what you said about Tomb Raider because I have heard some people say that the environments in the new on are not has good has the 2013 one and that the 2013 one has a better story. But I have also heard people say what you said before to.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Would love to see a Vita 2 with L2/R2 buttons, no back touch and an HDMI out port that would allow the Vita to be connected to an HDTV. Would love to play a few Vita games but only on my HDTV even if the maximum is 720P. Just give me full screen and im good.
Definitely curious to see if whatever this turns out to be gets announced and shown at the PlayStation Meeting.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
It baffles me because it's too much at the same time. What if the Slim doesn't have 4K video support and a UHD drive? Looking at the pictures, I think that it's nothing more than just a slim PS4. If it has a UHD drive and supports 4K, you would think that it would be advertised and marketed on the box but it's not.
I know the slim obviously costs less to manufacture but at the same time, what about the current base PS4? How many of these do they still have in their inventory? Will there be a price cut? You can say that the slim would cost less to manufacture but when you have warehouses full of the base PS4, wouldn't that just be flushing money down toilet?
As for Neo, one guy posted on neogaf that Neo has gone into mass production and is coming out this year. Also, Sony is flying out press members to the PlayStation Meeting. No way in hell Sony is doing all this just to announce and show a PS4 slim.
Another factor is that October 1st deadline in which all games released October 1st and beyond are required to have a base PS4 mode and a Neo mode. If this date stays intact and no rumors go around that it's been pushed back between now and September 7th, then I would think that Neo gets released by early November 100% because if Neo gets delayed to 2017, then there's no point in having a required Neo mode for games that would be months or possibly a year old by the time Neo gets released.
Here's something we all can agree on - September 7th can't get here fast enough!!!
It could be that they started making less ps4 a little while back so they wouldn't have a lot of them in warehouses. It could be that this is basically just going to replace the normal ps4 and that it could be 250-300 instead of 350 and that maybe the NEO is going to be early 2017 for 400 and with higher specs then we would have gotten in 2016. About the October 1st NEO mode thing that was a rumor so we don't know if that was true or not.Comment

I don't mind games getting delayed and pushed back. Watching Angry Joe's review of No Man's Sky and seeing how content was cut from the final product is why games should be delayed if needed. Publishers don't care and just want to make as much money as possible but there needs to be a certain level of respect for gamers who are paying for the games in which if a game isn't ready, delay it. This is also why I hate it when games get announced and shown too soon. Rather see games shown when they are near 100% finished so that way if the game does need to be delayed, it won't be as much of a negative compared to a game that's been shown for three years and gets delayed again.
I stopped being a collector a long time ago and decided that once I move on to the next generation, im not going back to the past. Plus, too many games would be in my backlog and a lot of them would be RPGs and I know that im never ever going to play them let alone finish them so it's easier to just say, screw it, time to move on.
No way are the areas in 2013 better than ROTTR. There's 12 or so different maps and each one varies in ROTTR. I loved all the maps in ROTTR. Granted, a few are small and short but even those have a good amount of variation to it. The story and characters are the weak spot in ROTTR but I still enjoyed it for what it was. Not going to lie, I don't play ROTTR for the story and characters. I play it for the exploration, stealth, puzzles, atmosphere, immersion, hunting, scavenging, upgrading and just pure gameplay. Overall, I gave the game a 9/10. Fully enjoyed the game and would pick ROTTR over Uncharted 4 if I had to choose one or the other.
Obviously up to you but I have been recommending the game since I finished it last year on Xbox One. Just an excellent fun game. Can't wait to replay it.Comment

Whelp... we will get announcements for both. WSJ's sources are rock solid.
Japanese tech company to introduce a standard and high-end version of the console next month
By TAKASHI MOCHIZUKI
Updated Aug. 21, 2016 10:34 p.m. ET
TOKYO—Sony Corp. plans to introduce a new PlayStation 4 standard model alongside a high-end version next month, people familiar with the matter said, in an effort to maintain demand for the best-selling videogame console.
With the release of the two models, Sony hopes to attract hard-core fans and more casual users to its videogame platform, analysts said.
...
Ahead of the September news conference, Sony has cut production of PlayStation 4 to adjust inventory, people familiar with the matter said. Several major e-commerce websites in Japan, including Sony’s own e-commerce site, said the PlayStation 4 was out of stock.
...
“The white model was gone two weeks ago and we just sold our last black model in stock,” said the chief of the videogame floor at a major electronics store in Tokyo. “Our central purchasing department warned us we wouldn’t get any for now because the item is simply not in distribution channels.”Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
It's always possible that Sony somehow increased the specs but at the same time, it depends if they even wanted to because increasing the specs also increases the price. I would think that Sony would want the 500GB Neo model to be no more than $400 because PS4 was $400 at launch and it would be weird to me to see them increase the price. And now with the slim pretty much guaranteed, the Neo can't be too expensive because majority of consumers will go with the cheaper models.
Definitely hyped for September 7th and looking forward to seeing Neo and whatever else they show.
Last gen was awesome but my favorite and best was SNES/GEN era. There were a lot of great games last gen but I didn't start until 2009 and 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360. This gen, I started six months in. I have completed 28 games this gen in less than three years where as last gen was just over 30 games total.
I don't mind games getting delayed and pushed back. Watching Angry Joe's review of No Man's Sky and seeing how content was cut from the final product is why games should be delayed if needed. Well if the slim is like 250-300 and the NEO is like 400-450 some people may want because they want the more powerful systems and maybe even more so if it is next year because then you are not going to have to pick between 2 different Sony systems at the same time. Well I am not sure how many games I have beaten this gen but so far Wii u has a lot more good games then either wii u or ps4. Well I understand what you are saying about showing a game to early and yeah it is better to show it later because if a game is shown like a year before it comes out that is easier then having to want like 3 years and if the game is very close when shown even if it gets pushed back it is more likely it is going to be just a short push back. Interesting about Tomb Raider the thing that looked cool in the newer one is that it looks like there is a lot of Snow areas in the game.
True. I'm fully expecting Neo to be released this year. It would be beyond stupid to show it on September 7th and not release it until early 2017. If it releases this year, im most likely upgrading but next year, probably not. The October 1st Neo mode is a rumor but im assuming that it's true because how else would the game detect which console is being used to play the game?
Well I don't see how Sony showing the NEO and slim but not having the NEO in till early next year would be any worse then Microsoft showing the slim at E3 and talking about the Scorpio only for the Scorpio to be around a year and 4-5 months or so from E3. Well if it is not October 1st its simple it could just be a rumor about games detecting which console is being used starting October 1st.Comment
