Due to SATA2 bottleneck you won't see nearly all the benefits that a SSD offers. It defiinitely offered some small boosts for me here or there and I don't regret upgrading my PS4 with it, but I wouldn't say it is a must-have upgrade that will dramatically change your experience.

I would call it a nice little novelty if you have the cash to spend on the upgrade.
      Okay. Glad I asked. Thanks.

I put this one in mine due to the SATA2 bottleneck for SSD.

Same brand as stock, very reliable (lowest fail rates), quiet, and 7200RPM on a larger platter loads faster than stock. A little over double the 500GB storage space with how the OS formats.

HGST Travelstar 7K1000 2.5-Inch 1TB 7200 RPM SATA III 32MB Cache (Best Buy)

        Amazon for price match.

Hopefully the Neo is has SATA3, that way SSHD's and especially SSD's reach their potential optimal performance for the system.

          Thanks Enigma.

Yeah, im hoping that Neo will support SATA III so I can purchase that SSD for it and increase the performance even more.

I have the Samsung 850 Pro SSD 512gb and the games you will see make a big difference are GTA 5, The Witcher, BloodBorne, Dark Souls 3

In BO3 I am able to get out infront of my teammates during online play before they are able to move which is a plus.

One thing I was hoping an SSD would help with is the loading textures on online shooters like BO3 and BF4

I hate that some walls or floors are so 2D for like a minute after you get to it before the high end textures load...I guess that is more a server issue and not an SSD bottleneck

That is usually memory draw calls more so than the HDD for the texture pop-in.

Well am not sure if texture pop in are the same with the actual texture not loaded at all but it could be

Witcher 3 as awesome as the game looks on PS4 has terrible pop in when you ride the roach.

I know on BF4 when you start a match in the map the ground looks like a 2D game and I just sit there and not move until it loads the proper texture in HD and it happens a lot in COD as well. those are the only 2 shooters online that I can recall having this issue and I hate it. The SSD did not fix that but it does load the map quicker for me over the teammates as I am able to move after the coutndown and my teammates are still frozen until their clock goes down

How can these companies fix this for BF1 and COD that is coming soon?

                  Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

HDD bottlenecks do play a role a bit, but if you notice, it is not as prevalent in the single player portions due to the way it is handled in the online portion.

Engine optimizations, and better hardware with more memory bandwidth. Faster buses, etc. Bus speeds have always been the bane to computer graphics.

HBM stacks in the (hopefully revisions i.e. PS5/Scorpio 2) with finally truly a revolutionary jump in memory bandwidth, and having everyone on SSD's so they are still not programming to the lower bus speed denominator. There is even pop in on beastly PC rigs.

These engines are also finally letting go of the last gen legs, so it should help some. BF4/BO3 are still 'cross gen-ish' engines, and Battlefront improved on it a good amount as I expect BF1 to do as well. I am hoping the one ecosystem, system refreshes also help with engine optimizations since the engines are better scaled when the hardware is predictable/same x86/64 family structure.

Skipped 16 and skipping 17. Too many good or better games that I want to play plus I missed out on so many games due to playing nothing but sports games when I was younger. *SMH*

I need auto save. I love The Witcher III in which you can setup how long it takes the game to auto save. I have it set at 10 minutes which is great because it means that I'll never lose more than 10 minutes of progress. I lost two hours in Bloodborne twice and I was like, screw this, im done. LOL. Multiple files is fine because The Witcher has four or five and if I want to go back, I just load up an older file or delete the more current files and let the game auto load the file that I still have.

I agree for the most part in regards to PS4/Xbox One/Wii U. Wii U is the first home console from Nintendo that I haven't owned. Just too gimmicky for me and for just a few games doesn't pay, especially not at $300 which to me, is a huge rip-off compared to the competition. PS4 is my primary for exclusives, multi-platform, psn and indie games. Xbox One is just for the exclusives since I have no interest in gaming on PC.

Weather wise, I prefer 80 degrees and no humidity with a slight breeze. That's perfect for me. Shame it rarely happens. LOL. Some of those games you have are real good. Not counting the sports games simply because im just not into playing them anymore. Yeah, games finally started coming last year and the exclusives im waiting for in 2017 should be some of the best this gen.

TR 2013 was good and you should play it but if you can only play one of the two, I say go straight to ROTTR.

Well i get tried of having to go back and get rid of files when a game auto saves and has like a million files. Weather wise i hate humidity but love the heat. Much rather have 105 with no humidity then like 70 with 90% humidity. Well i dont play sports video games as much as i used to becuase i have gotten into none sports games a lot more then i used to and i dont have the time i used to. So i have cut back on sports games and gotten more into playing none sports games but i love love watching and playing sports though. Well to me Wii u has like 2 must have games and some other good games to but i understand what you are saying about its price. When ps4 came out it was only 50 more even with how much stronger it was and in all these years wii u hasnt really went down in price that much. It wasnt just price that hurt the wii u but price compared to its power and compared to its lack of power compared to the xboxone and ps4. If wii u was much more powerful then its 350 day 1 price wouldnt have been so bad.

When it comes to the games i have i think drive club is great even before its DLC and patches and the amount of stuff added with DLC and patches is amazing. The amount of tracks like tripped with all the DLC lol. Its like a new game. Infamous i still need to beat. Also have batman arkham knight and i wasnt dissapointed in it really unlike a lot of people i love it and think it is the best in the franchise and like a top 3 game of all time. Well i was thinking maybe playing the 2013 Tomb Raider becuase it is cheap and then if i like it by the time i get passed it the newer one may be really cheap to.

PlayStation Meeting should be good as im expecting a few announcements in addition to the slim and Neo. If Neo is $400 or less, it's day one as long as I can trade in my current PS4 towards the Neo for $200. All part of my master plan. LOL.

Everyone knows how I feel about Neo but whatever. I can't change any of it and if I can somehow come away with it for $50 (including a credit card offer I received and accepted), I figure what the hell, how can I pass on that?

500GB is plenty for me even though I may decide to purchase a Solid State Drive if possible for PS4 internally. Some of the loading times is insane and if I can reduce that, great. If the hard drive is more than 500GB and it's still $400, I'll most likely just trade in the hard drive and go with a smaller solid state drive. Have to wait and see. Two more weeks to go.

I don't have a 4K TV nor do I plan on buying one any time soon. Don't really care about the resolution. I care a lot more about the pop-in and the frame rates. Just hoping that Neo gets released before November.

Oh ok looking foward to september 7th, 13 Tokyo game show and when ever Nintendo shows the NX if they ever do lol. Well i am with you on not really thinking the whole NEO thing is a good idea but if i can get it kind of cheap after a trade in like you said then i maybe would. I really want a 4k TV they look amazing and i think the jump to 4k is bigger then going from SD to 720 or from going 720 to 1080p and even on smaller TV's. The whole 4k TV needs to be really big to see the difference is a bunch of BS. I dont know how any one can only need a 500 GB hard drive that is so small now days with ever thing having to be installed on the hard drive but i dont get rid of games and go back and play old games from time to time and with the 500 GB i am already down to around 44 GB. After TLG in october i may already be out of hard drive space or if not it will not be long after that. 2 TB is the biggest hard drive you can put into a ps4 right? I think 2 TB would be enough. 1 Tb i know wouldnt be enough forever either and 1.5 maybe.

I will say, I have the UC4 controller, and it lasts twice as long as my OG, even OG at launch. I can go about 3-4 days without needing to plug it in with 3 to 4 hour average gaming sessions each day. The battery can remain the same if they use refined/lower draw internals.

USB controller communication is great for the competitive gaming scene.

That LED tho! Hope the Neo has a similar design on the Power Button. It also does all the pulsating the OG one does on boot-up/sleep.

Interesting about the controller becuase i have heard the only difference with controllers from now to the time when the system first came out is the sticks and the plastic coming off issue. I have heard nothing about the controllers battery lasting longer.

The Slim does not need 4K. It is their entry level model to replace the current OG, which they make to cut costs, and pass on the savings to the consumer. It is there to continue to drive sales at a more affordable price for the casual masses sweet spot pricing (the hardcore already jumped in). Sony has always done this.

The Neo will have more power and 4K for the 'hardcore' enthusiasts out there. Hardcore model, and the continued cost cutting casual model driving their ecosystem forward.

                      Exactly.

I dont think most people thought a xboxone slim would have any kind of 4k either though. About the 1 TB thing if it is really just in the UK that is pretty silly thing.

If the slim is this year and the Neo next year, I'll definitely be swapping both of my systems out for slims and then again for Neos, lol.

I love my PS4s and I love new tech. You win Sony.

I have my launch OG, and no stick peeling at all. So it is all relative. And I just read a comment on the link I just posted from the Dualshocker post where a person said his UC4 controller lasts much longer. I see these comments on GAF, and I see them on PSN forums as well.

It lasts almost twice as long as the OG one. Lower draw refined components could have a lot to do with it (and are not exclusive to just be in the console box itself) if the battery size is the same.

What I said has nothing to do with Xbox and their slim.

It is how Sony's business model has always been with a slim. Smaller form factor, cost cutting, cheaper for the mainstream. There is no need to add 4K to it (adding to the cost), since they will have a 4K option. 1080p sets are considered 'entry level' now by Sony as well as other big makers, thus the PS4 Slim follows suit.

Colin from Kinda Funny is banking hard on $249 for the Slim. Now that would be something. $249 PS4, $399 Neo/4K... they would see insane market growth in that ecosystem.

The 1TB console has also always been the option for Europe for quite some time, long before the slim. But hopefully it makes it's way here like the options they had with the PS3 slim revisions (for those who want that). I would still would rather put a speedier 7500rpm drive in at the same cost to me, but everyone has different wants/needs.

Redzone has always been that, no? Or did it used to be $30? I know on uverse it was part of an extra sports tier for like $10 per month.
