Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Nothing in a controlled lab, but still a good idea of how much quieter the PS4 Slim is compared to the OG. By a good 10db on average.
PS4 Slim’s Fan Noise Level Tested and Compared Against Original PS4

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The SATA is still SATA2 in the One S because it uses the same Southbridge chip as the OG Xbox One (in which it is locked on chip). Almost all modern 9.5mm drives are SATA3, you just will not get that out of it.
This is not a tech breakdown sadly, so do not know if they updated the HDD controller itself. I do know the PS4 does not hard-lock the controller to the southbridge chip, so they have more flexibility there. But it will probably be the same SATA2 if I had to guess.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The PS4 always used a SATA3 drive (the drive itself)... same with the Xbox One, that article was wrong on the One S. (Not tech savvy at all apparently.)

When I had a One I just used an external drive from the get go so I never looked into the stock hard drive.
I highly doubt they upgraded the controller, unfortunately. I think we will have to wait until Scorpio, at earliest, for true SATA3 speeds"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Oh ok. Yeah I understand how it all works. I thought I had read that S featured a SATA3 drive and that, in itself, was an upgrade over Xbox One. Guess I was misinformed.

When it was analyzed it was found to use the same southbridge chip as the OG, which is locked SATA2.
Maybe the Neo will have SATA3. We will find out with a tech analysis teardown when it hits.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 09-06-2016, 05:31 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Can't respond to everyone but...
The change in price of 4K wasn't due to a shift in technology...it's due to supply & demand like everything else in the market.
Gamers were forced to upgrade their TVs to play next gen games because they couldn't use standard definition even though you could still watch broadcast TV in SD.
So the 4K argument is irrelevant because you still cannot get broadcast signals in 4K yet. Netflix and Amazon (to whoever mentioned it) are not industry standards so again..this is for a select crowd. Which is my concern for gamers as a whole somehow eventually being forced to buy into something to get access which should be for everyone. I think that's where we're headed with cloud gaming (software purchases, saves, upgrades, etc).
The cell phone analogy is the best answer I've heard here and makes the most sense to me.
And lastly when people question why there's a new product..it's not a complaint. It's a question..lol. So much for healthy discussion instead of right vs. wrong.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Makes sense. When I turned on my PS4 a pop up said the network was in maintenance.
