Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Those that want to upgrade...
Why wasn't the PS4 built with these capabilities to begin with?
Seems to me like NEO is for a select group of gamers and not the gaming community as a whole.
Nothing wrong with that but why can't people question what is going on when the PS4 was touted as "next gen" just 3 years ago? Technology hasn't shifted.
If this is to appease owners of 4K sets...we can't even get broadcast TV in 4K yet. So what's the point besides this being a money grab?
What % of gamers are really complaining about FPS and resolutions? I'd guess a very tiny %. Probably the same guys who complain about not enough socks in NBA 2K.
As Dickey said times change quickly especially in technology. Hell a year ago I had no clue that 4K even existed or what it was. And 3D Tvs first came out about 6 years ago. And look how quickly that faded. The sales of 3D Tvs started to decline after 3 years. That's right just 3 years. Also Apple, Samsung, etc. are all releasing new phones every other year, and tablets are probably around every 3/4 years.

While that is true I dont know how long 4k has been around but I never heard of 4k in till like 2 years ago and it was only like a year and a half ago that I had seen any 4k tv any where to buy in store. Also when I first saw 4k tvs they cost a lot of money. They have went down a lot though in just like the last year.Comment

As has been said before, it is kind of taking page out of the cell phone market and PC market (Graphics card upgrades, in a sense).
With the way these consoles are built internally now (basically little PCs) there is no more worry about backwards compatibility, so Sony and MS can basically offer options to gamers as far as "how well" do they want to run their games.
The 4k aspect means very little to me, I am in it for hopefully a consistent standard of 1080p/60FPS/and "High" equivalent settings of a PC version, if that makes sense. For games to run at 4k on these consoles they would probably have to take pretty solid hits in other graphical areas to run smoothly. I am still a 1080p guy for awhile.Last edited by The JareBear; 09-06-2016, 02:48 AM."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

The PS4 wasn't built with these capabilities because it couldn't be for a reasonable price. If the Neo is for a select group of gamers and you aren't in that group, then don't buy it. Whatever PS4 was touted as is irrelevant basically, PC gamers could've told you the consoles were underpowered when they came out. Why? Because Sony and Microsoft know people don't want to pay $800 for a box, so they figure out a price and some specs that work around it, and then they optimize from there. We've already had devs compromising with 900/30, 900/60, 1080/30 not like the Neo will necessitate a lock because it's up to them but now they have more power to work with.
What does broadcast TV have to do with gaming? If companies produce games that can run at 4K (which they can) then what difference does it make that broadcast TV doesn't run through it? There are already people playing games in 4K on PC. It's not really about 4K anyway. The graphics card in the PS4 has a ton of room for more power even at 1080P.
As a pc gamer, I guess I'm just used to new stuff coming out and not caring. As we have to tell each other, if the graphics card you have is good enough for you, then you don't need to buy the new one. If you're upset because you thought the PS4 was stronger than it actually is and that they touted it as "next gen" then that's just marketing and unfortunately you fell for it.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

If you were being forced to upgrade, I might get it, but you're not. The Neo isn't replacing the current PS4, the Slim is (which happens every generation of consoles). If you don't care about 4K or the potential boost in FPS as you said, no one is making you change. Sony has already made it very clear that all games will be released on both models of PS4. If you're happy with your current system, then stick with it.
The Neo will be an option for those who want it. Options are a good thing.Last edited by DickDalewood; 09-06-2016, 09:17 AM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Wasn't the PS4 originally hyped up to be 1080P/60fps for games, too?
I guess I'm of the mindset of I'll believe it when I see it.
Until then upgraded technology isn't going to make gameplay better. It might make it smoother, but I feel like there's a vast difference in number of quality titles between this generation and last gen.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Has there ever been a concrete reason given as to why PSN name changes aren't an option, as well as why they probably won't ever be? I dunno why it irks me."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."
