According to Peter Wyse, SVP of production and development at Warner Bros. Interactive, there are two optimized rendering options available to PS4 Pro developers. "Resolution mode" made lets them lock games into a resolution beyond 1080p (I've found 1440p works well in PC gaming). "Quality mode," on the other hand, dynamically scales the resolution depending on the game is performing. Wyse says you can expect resolutions that are up to 90 percent close to 4K in that mode.

Shadow of Mordor, a WB title, looked great on the PS4 Pro, even though it wasn't running completely in 4K. There was more detail in player outfits and the environment, and on the whole it looked just as good as it does on a powerful PC. The same was true for Rise of the Tomb Raider -- at one point, I could make out the plumage of a bird sitting on a cliffside. Most players likely won't notice if PS4 Pro titles don't reach 4K completely, so long as the results they're seeing look better than the standard PS4.

To be clear, true 4K rendering is possible as well on the PS4 Pro, but it looks like we'll only see it on some titles. Bethesda has the Elder Scrolls Online actually running 4K, but that's a game that also benefits from an engine that scales across a wide variety of PC hardware, from integrated laptop graphics to powerful GPUs. And graphically it's not nearly as detailed as most AAA games. According to Matthew Firor, the game's director, it didn't take much effort to get it up and running on the PS4 Pro. And since he's mainly been developing for the PC, his team is used to creating games that scale with incremental hardware upgrades.

Here's the thing gamers will have to get used to: 4K doesn't matter as much as you think. The PS4 Pro's real power will be in running games higher than 1080p and together with high-dynamic range lighting. (Sony is also making HDR available to all PS4 models via a firmware update.) The higher resolutions will make things look sharper and more detailed overall, while the HDR lighting will give bright scenes and shadows more depth. Both The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 looked strikingly different on the PS4 Pro, thanks to the graphical upgrades. (Though Naughty Dog might have downplayed just how good the games looked on the previous hardware to make the new gear seem better.)

      Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

So todays plot just thickened even more. So I finally get home from work to my PS4.

I fire it up and wow its running terrible, everything really laggy, plus bunch of stuff on home page which I never had. So I go to settings page and all the account settings are mine. This is where I noticed something was up, I went to ACTIVATE AS YOUR PRIMARY PS4 and what does it say "You are unable to activate this ps4 because another ps4 is already listed as primary". So I then get on the chat with Sony rep and he shows me how to deactivate the listed PS4 on my account. I then REACTIVATED my ps4 as the primary and boom PS4 is flying fast again and all the games I don't own are not showing up on main menu anymore.

This was when I learn from the PS4 specialist this must of been a planned out attacked, my ps4 was removed from "primary" status back in February and just recently was this "other" ps4 added as the primary.

So long story short. It was 100% a high level attack which bypassed 2 factor auth, high level pass, purchase pass, and even deactivated my machine.

Stay safe boys, cause this has been a Fing nightmare!

David: Excellent Derek, you could perform the deactivation now your console is activated correctly.
Me: so someone hacked into my system, put their ps4 as the primary and bought a bunch of stuff for it, unreal
David: Checking the account the last deactivation has been made on February
Edit: I forgot to mention, the other thing that tipped me off instantly that someone was in my system. When I turned the system on it was IN GAME of The Last of Us. As if someone was playing it and I logged in basically.

Sony is able to trace that other PS4 back to an IP address but I'm guessing they would only be able to do so if this turns into a criminal investigation.

The difference is the specs but with none of the games being shown and talked about mentioning any of the frame rate increases, etc., im like 50/50 on PS4 PRO. Was definitely more hyped BEFORE the conference.
Yeah I am honestly wondering if I would be better off getting Xbox S while I wait for the Pro.

I feel they missed on the price point of PS4 Slim.

In terms of the value you get, I'd say you're better off getting the Xbox One S.

However, I assume most of your buddies are on PS4 + the games library you said you have, I think you made the right choice.

For those wondering it appears that GS is offering 125 bucks for your vanilla PS4/Xbox toward a new PS4.

                  Yup, saw that on Twitter.

Important to note, it's only valid from 9/8-9/13 which is weird

I love coming in here as 2 stories unfold:

                    1) We get to discuss the new PS4 Pro
                    2) Phobia's Playstation was hacked and we get the briefing as more info comes in.

                    What's next?

Increase in bandwidth could help, but CPU also a big factor, particularly in regards to draw distance. I wouldn't expect LOD miracles with the Pro. Little in the way of candidates on the AMD side, so makes most sense to focus mostly on GPU throughput.

Overall, it will still be a nice upgrade, and I think more will get excited as more info comes out and improvements are shown leading up to its release.

Also it appears there are some peripherals launching with the Pro that were't mentioned today. Someone already brought up the new PS Camera, but I am excited for the new Sony PS4 Platinum headset

                        Platinum Wireless Headset

Sony's "high-end" gaming headset has 7.1 virtual surround sound and will allow "select PS4 titles" to have 3D sound. Its "multi-position" microphone has noise-cancelling, and it is compatible with mobile devices and PlayStation VR. The headset will sell for $159, €179, and £129,

Yeah man. I really don't see the point of buying a PS4 slim in October, only to turn around and by the Pro in November. Just doesn't make a lot of sense, especially financially.

If you have to get a system now, I would definitely go with Xbox One Slim Madden bundle. For what you get with the system capabilities like 4K and 4K blu ray it just makes much more sense.

                            Just my opinion.

Yeah, the base value is $125 but I'll be shocked if GameStop doesn't increase that come October if you put it towards the Pro.

                              Skyrim Special Edition

What I want to know is what is actually increased/upgraded in these games? Is it the resolution, FPS, etc.? Sony spent too much time talking about the stuff that we didn't want and need to know.

What I want to know is what is actually increased/upgraded in these games? Is it the resolution, FPS, etc.? Sony spent too much time talking about the stuff that we didn't want and need to know.
I am hoping/expecting that list to be WAY bigger by Nov 10

I think Sony could sell a lot more Pro's if they can show games like The Show and Madden running significantly sharper/smoother on a Pro
