My ps4 pro has been freezing up and crashing real bad all of sudden. Hopefully rebuilding the database will help me too. Right now it's stuck closing nba 2K17.

        Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I bought a PS3 about 6-9 months after buying PS4. In that time span the amount of time I've spent playing both is fairly equal including BC games on the PS3 like Crash, Metal Gear Solid, GTA, Ninja Gaiden, etc. This past winter I connected my Wii to play Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past.

There are a fair amount of games I can't go back and play for various reasons (I could say the same for modern games, too), but the handful that I can I still like having the opportunity and capability to go back and play. Having software emulation similar to Nintendo's Virtual Console would be awesome. Having to keep all these machines around to play their separate games takes a lot of storage, but if that's the only way to still play them then I'll bite the bullet.

I get that and I am pretty much the same, wont ever spend too much time playing PS3 games. However, I would much prefer the ability to play BC games on my PS4 rather than subscribe to PSNow. JMO

Some business are made or broken over 2% of a market, that 2% in this case we know is 210 million hours of gaming as of November of last year... a bit harder to dismiss in context.

Unrelated, and filed squarely under 'but is that good or bad?', Sony says 1 in 5 Playstations sold since the PS4 Pro's release have been the Pro model.

True. Major Nelson's claim is for the year (Nov 2015 - Nov 2016) when Microsoft rolled it out. Arstechnica did their 5-month study shortly after.

Once, the nostalgia dies down, the numbers naturally will drop. But remember, Microsoft's can claim all they want, but I'm a graphics man and want to see it on paper and the latest results speaks differently.

What's dying down though? Every month all 48m+ Xbox Live members get 2+ more BC titles (Assassin's Creed III and Dragon Age this month). Then thanks to their philosophy anyone who ducked out of the Xbox One because (reasons) can play Forza Horizon 3, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, every Halo, every Gears, etc in addition to BLOPS3 (or 4 other CODs), Read Dead Redemption and other entire franchises like Dead Space and Mass Effect on EA Access, or one of the 100+ titles as part of Gamepass - all day 1, on their Scorpio.

Outside of maybe PS1 to PS2, has there ever been a larger value proposition at the launch of a new console? And then they'll repeat that same value proposition every 4-5 years as people's libraries continue to snowball.

Now replace all those games with Sony exclusives and mainstays. That's how you top it. That's why it's incredibly disheartening to see any downplay of BC by Sony. This should be the template companies should follow.

It's more than nostalgia and one-offs, it's the philosophy of the entire platform, no more taking your games away when you move to the next console and recharging you (more a Nintendo trademark than Sony).

This should be the philosophy of the entire industry.

Just wondering if this is possible. Can i take a hard drive and download games from another ps4 after i sign in it with my own account ?

I'm going back to Phoenix for a month and will have fast Internet. It takes days to download a game and the cell phone company throttles my account for a month when a i dl a game.

If i can't, i might just upgrade and get the pro.

This might be possible with an external drive. I can't get to this link, but think it answers your question - http://www.gamesradar.com/ps4-extern...transfer-games

Sounds like you might have an excuse to get a pro though

While I agree 100% in regards to your philosophy, there's just one small problem. As long as consumers are willing to pay for something that they already paid for years earlier, they will charge you again and again.

Look at the industry. Mid-gen consoles. Micro-transactions, on disc dlc, pre-order dlc, exclusive timed dlc, season/expansion passes, etc.

Just look at all that stuff and then add the facts that Microsoft is losing 2 to 1, being outsold 60M to 30M, still trying to get past E3 2013 (and yes, four years later, there are still consumers that believe all those restrictions actually exist) and not having the exclusives that are on par with Sony's but both go in different directions.

Sony exclusives are for the most part centered around single player story focused games while Microsoft exclusives are more centered around online multi-player and as Spencer himself said, Games as a Service (GaaS).

Add in the $380M that Sony paid to acquire Gaikai and the fact that Microsoft is trying every consumer friendly move possible to win back gamers even though to me, it's a lost cause.

When you add all of that together, there's simply no valid reason for Sony to give you backwards compatibility for "free". I don't blame them not doing it and honestly, im not surprised by any of it at all. If they never purchased Gaikai, then perhaps they would give you backwards compatibility but since that's not the case, they don't.

And I don't Sony changing with PS5 or beyond as there's simply no reason for them to do so.

But look at the numbers. 930,000 users and 1.5% of those users are BC? Do you really believe that roughly 15,000 users are logging 150 hours each playing BC games? Especially, with everything else that Xbox offers? Now, I'm not sure what gaming rights or fees Microsoft pays these publishers but its probably costly. For gamers that's a great feature. As a Microsoft shareholder I look at the latest chart and would say screw that. But, I understand why they're doing it.

I'm more interested in their expected PSN digital sale this weekend. The spend $100 get back $15 promotion starts this Friday and lasts until June 20th which is two weeks from today.
