Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I thought we'd get to see the machine but I understand from a strategic standpoint why they didn't show it. As a PS3/360 owner, can't say I saw a lot that would convince me the machine is must have at launch. A few of the games were flat-out impressive (Watch Dogs). At the same time I'm not expecting to see some huge generational leap from end-of-generation games now and next gen launch games, outside of graphics improvements. I'm interested in playing Diablo 3 but since I'll be able to do it on the PS3 if I want that's not that big a deal. I expect Killzone to be like it has in the past - really pretty, not much from a gameplay or story standpoint. Many of the titles will likely be cross-platform so exclusive content will be important.
Right now my PS3 is almost exclusively a blu-ray player so they'd have to do a lot to convince me to make the jump at launch. They have to step up big time in terms of their online service - I can't stand the way it is now. This year's E3 will be ridiculousHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Man.. People all over Twitter and various other news websites are getting angry just because Sony didn't show the PS4.. What the hell?
Theres a difference between announcment and reveal. Like they were ever going to, it's way too early for that plus theres still somethings to finish up devloping most likely. Heck, they might not even have the external design finished yet.
People need to chill..Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
PS3 announcement at E3, hardware mockups on stage.
WiiU focused on the controller, but showed the hardware when announced.
XBox 360 announcement on MTV showed the hardware.
So why wouldn't you expect hardware mockups now?
I suspect the reason we didn't see hardware mockups is because of the 4GB rumor and 8GB final spec, they likely just recently changed that and likely had to rework the board and probably even will have to redo the case to fit the new board so they had nothing to show.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Is it just me or is showing the device not really that important at this stage? If an Xbox 720 looks better than a PS4 but the PS4 has better hardware and features, are you really going to buy the Xbox 720 for cosmetic value? Really? Reallllllllyyyy? Really?Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I agree, but I was looking forward to seeing the design. Its no big deal, but that was the #1 reason I tuned in. Luckily there was a hell of a lot more awesomeness to see in that 2 hours.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Not having the console at the event doesn't matter. When you get right down to it, the most important things are the games and the experiences the PS4 will offer. But yet, it does matter. It matters very much.
This is a console reveal. You need to show the console. It's a psychological thing: We need to see the box that will power the games and experiences the PS4 offers. Otherwise, the PS4 will feel incredibly abstract. It won't feel real.
Worse yet, it makes it feel like there was no payoff to the PS4 reveal. No, here's the new controller, here are the new cool games, and finally, here is the machine that will make it all happen. Bam, bam, bam. We're one bam too short, and that's unsatisfying. The entire evening never built to a climax. It just ended, sorely missing that one last bam.Comment
