I've said it before but I'll point it out again.

Not everyone here is a PC gamer but if everyone got a taste of Steam sales, humble bundles, and the many other online sales of PC titles. People would be begging to get rid of the used game market if it meant the new game market saw a dramatic decrease in release costs and then fantastic sales with in several months after release.

While I openly support the used game market, I would quickly call for it being shutdown if that meant steam like handling of digital purchases graced our consoles. It is a win win for everyone but the used game retailers. Publishers have reduced cost from lack of expenses of game cases, insert literature, production of physical disks, and shipping costs around the country and world. Then the consumers get the benefit of instant purchases over online plus with great reduces in price on new games.

If I would predict anything I'd say consoles are going to make some changes similar to steam at some point. It just makes the most sense across the board.

Im not holding my breath for Steam like sales for console games. Well for those not subscribed to MS and Sony's paid online services that is.

        Why not?

Sony gives you games when you have their paid service. And if consoles allowed steam and EA's Origin, it can and will happen.

There is too much strong arming from EB Games and the like due to the fact that consoles still are not ready to heavily migrate fully away from physical copies yet.

I personally wouldn't buy a console if it was strictly digital. As others have mentioned, I want a physical copy of the game, period.

The only games I've 'purchased' that were digital are Indie Games on the 360 and NBA 2K10 Scouting Combine for the PS3.

But I get what you're saying. The game would cost $100.

This will probably be the last generation of consoles for you then, I'd anticipate discs won't even be an option by the next generation of consoles.

PC Games are still available on discs and will continue to be.

Discs won't stop being made any time soon.

Things keep moving more and more digital, I would imagine next gen consoles are probably at least 10 years away (probably a little sooner), I won't be at all surprised if in 8-10 years discs are gone.

I really don't like disk, I really don't like anything that makes clutter, im the opposite of a hoarder but im not a clean freak, im a no clutter freak, I get claustrophobic when to much junk is laying around. The reason I dont like disk is because I like things to look simple, clean, hi-tech, and spacy, I don't even have a coffee table in my living room because I like the space in the middle of the floor.
I just gave away 300 music CD's because they were just laying around taking up space, I have them all on my iPod, computers HDD, an external HDD, and in the cloud. If we have to buy game disks for the PS4 I hope I can install them and play without the game being in the system, if not, it could be a deal breaker, and I may go with the XboxONE.

And my thoughts on DRM- I don't care at this point, DRM or not I just hope Sony and MS do the same thing. To make it easier on everybody, including us and the developers. One company doing drm and the other not, could be a disaster for the gaming industry.

Not saying I agree with everything TotalBiscuit says in that video, but it's very interesting to listen to and hear the various takes on different arguments.
never heard nobody break it down like that. he almost has me totally convinced. I just have a few questions....

                            1. if we get rid of used games, shouldn't that get rid of most paid DLC? now that they're getting most of the cut, there is no need to nickel and dime us correct?

                            2. Maybe not all games will be 60 bucks? for example, a game like L.A. Noire could be $34.99 instead of 59 since its only a single player game?

Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
I'm sure there's plenty of prostitutes you could pay if you really want vd.
yea but will they take psn cards
Depends on what area of a hooker you would use to redeem them.

No and no. If you think publishers are just going to send any extra money from all this the consumers way you are being naive.

                                Thats not for sure.

All you have to do is look at the steam business model to see that it drives the prices of games down.
