I had the same problem with my router: it is on the 2nd floor of my house and my gaming systems are downstairs. Always had weak connections. After years of this I paid a buddy of mine (an electrician familiar with running cables) to run a line downstairs from my modem. Made all the difference in the world. Can't imagine going back to wireless now.

I don't know. I don't think integrating cable TV with your gaming console is really that innovative. I'd much rather get rid of cable TV all together. For the amount of channels that we actually watch, the cable bill is getting harder and harder to justify. Instead, The One makes that service even more necessary. We have yet to see the results from the Sony / Viacom channel stream deal that happened in the summer. What happens there? I want to see innovation there. I know it's not going to be easy within the current constraints, but that's what makes innovation special.

As you can probably tell, I'm pretty happy with my PS4. I bought a gaming console and I expect the best hardware for the price that I'm paying. PS4s video card is just more powerful. Frankly, it's really not that close. It's a noticeable difference in specs. You may not notice it now, but as the hardware and software evolves, I think you'll be seeing proof. The interface is clean and simple. I didn't like tiles in Windows 8 or Windows tablets and I still don't like tiles now.

I'm a stat whore myself. I've played 2 games with the Rockets, Dwight Howard didn't have double digit rebounds in either game, 7 in the first game 9 in the second game (after about 5 consecutive rebs in the 4th Q).

It's about recognizing advances in technology that will help shape how we live. I don't expect everyone to get it - they will make jokes and stay stuck in their old ways. I can recognize the shifts we are seeing and I know others can as well.

So are you saying that anyone who does not want an Xbox One does not care about technology. I am as much of a technological buff as the next person but the Xbox One just does not appeal to me. If I want to switch between TV and my gaming I can just switch to a different hdmi port on my TV seamlessly. I don't want to talk to my TV either. I think it will get old fast just like Siri with the iphone. I do prefer my console to be games first since it is a gaming console. Like someone else mentioned without DVR support it is useless. I would say like 90 percent of my TV viewing is things that I have recorded through DVR. I have no problem with you preferring the Xbox One, but I take offense to you insinuating that those of us who are happy with our PS4's are "stuck in our old ways".

Too me that's not an advancement, that's a gimmick - I understand the Xbox One and PS4 Kinect/cameras do more than that, but I only referred to the speaking part of it, that was it.
Yup. Kinect/PS Camera will never be needed for gaming. Voice commands are silly and we could always use a headset for that - even though pushing a button will always be infinitely easier. Voice commands in gaming date back to at least the Nintendo 64 (Hey You, Pikachu!) and look how well those have caught on. It's a gimmick and nothing more.

It can't be compared to how other technology catches on. Having a cell phone on you at all times is actually a semi-smart idea (car breaks down on the road, emergency situations, etc) compared to "HEY WE CAN HEAR YOUR VOICE IN VIDEO GAMES NOW. SAY A FEW WORDS INSTEAD OF PRESSING 'A'." Even sillier is the thought they want me to swing my arm around in the air swatting imaginary flies instead of pressing left/right on the d-pad/joystick.

The biggest thing the camera adds to the PS4 is the added bonus to streaming it gives for those with a proper set-up, they can come closer to mirroring what the normal PC stream set-up is like. I'm sure it will be the same with the XBone when they get streaming going, however long that takes them (some time Q1 next year I think they said?)

XBone is fine for what it is (an entertainment box) but when it comes to providing actual console video games and the best console experience... I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole in relation to the PS4. Now if you're the type of gamer that only gets geeked over the MS exclusives (Halo and Forza really the only two ever worth noting in the past generation)... by all means go crazy with it. They made it for you.

                  Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Xbox is good for some PS4 is good for others. I personally just want a simple machine, with a simple interface that plays games smoothly and those games look like works of art.

I'm not interested in turning my system on with my voice, or watching tv in the corner of the screen while I play. I turned my system on to play games, and most likely get away from TV, and if I want to watch one of my favorite shows, it's probably on netflix so I get out of the game I'm playing and watch that.

Microsoft's smoke and mirrors with their "technology" is really to hide the fact that the PS4's hardware is better than theirs and better at playing games. All I want is my games to look good, and if I want to watch tv I go to netflix, or I switch back to my cable box.

EDIT:This is coming from a guy who thought the xbox 360 was the greatest thing since sliced bread and was an apologist for it even during the red ring debacle.

                      Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

The Xbox One seems like a quality system. The main things I'd want it for right now is watching Youtube, Netflix, and HBO Go, which I can already do on the 360. The television features are cool, but that's not a system seller for me. If I eventually get a Xbox One it would ultimately come down to some killer exclusive titles that I can't play on PS4, but nothing they have now or have announced for the future does that for me. That could change eventually though.

I'm glad that everyone around here seems to be happy with their purchases whichever way they went. I don't really think you could go "wrong" either way, it's just all about what's most important to you.

You nailed it. I wanted to say this as well but didn't want to come off as fanboy. It is a fact that the PS4 has significant advantage in pure graphical processing power. I think in a year we are going to be very happy with what we are seeing. Then we can talk about which console is "Next Gen."

XBone seems like a fun for a family room or entertainment room, but I am just a 28 year old dude with a cable modem and a PC, I just want the more powerful system.

I kind of see your point about the voice commands. On one hand I can't wait to use my Xbox One and voice commands but I'm wondering if long term I really am going to want to use them. I have a new iPad and I loved Siri at first and used it constantly and now I never use it. I'm not so sure voice commands are the future, alot of folks like myself aren't real talkative, LOL...

If I were trading I would update my flip phone. A cell phone for me at my stage of life is for calls that cannot wait. Most can. I don't know how healthy this in constant communication with the world 24/7 is anyhow. Don't you want a little room to breathe?

That said the XBox 720 appears to have some real promise. I plan on sticking with the PS4 when I do go next gen.

There's no reason to take offense. I'm simply referring to those that can't recognize the advancements and offerings we have right now that will become more of a standard going forward. If you don't think you will be talking to your PC or mobile device in the future, you're simply not forward thinking.

You can drive a VW Jetta and prefer - but it does not mean you should slight a more advanced offering.

But if you want to take offense, feel free to interpret my comments however you like. I have both systems and am playing the PS4 more. Doesn't mean I cannot recognize the Xbox is a more feature robust system.

Unfortunately, much like in the iPad release thread where I spoke of the change on the horizon people made jokes then as well. The nature of technology!

I also do not expect people frequenting THIS thread to take to my positive comments on the competing console to be receptive here. I've never slighted what the PS4 offers; I'm simply staying the XB1 offers more. Simple facts.
