Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
At 8:11 theres no way the PS4 looks more realistic. No way. With that said I felt like different parts of the vid favored both sides. I think overall the X1 looked better but im saying that with the slightest of margins cause there were plenty of points where I said the X1 version looks faded. Also X1 seemed to have more jaggies overallIt’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Xbone has slightly more vibrant colors. But ps4 looks smoother and slightly better frame right.
But really it's not a huge deal#1 Laker fan

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Didn't Microsoft throw a bunch of money at EA for exclusives and so forth? If so could that also mean EA has agreed to show development preference to XBox versions for its games? Asking out of curiosity. Obviously last gen PS3 users tended to get the ports from Xbox development. I figured it may be different this time out with PS4's usability and processing power, but perhaps I was mistaken.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
There's a rather obvious difference between the two consoles in BF4 but the number of people I've seen already online saying the Xbox One version looks better leads me to suspect that Microsoft knows what they're doing with their consoles running messed up gamuts and hilariously over-sharpening things; they're just playing to their own very special audience.
Also: apparently the xbox one subreddit had a campaign to get as many people to GAF to talk about how much they preferred the Xbox One's crushed blacks and higher contrast, which one of their mods made a list of, because they all went around the same time just to sh!tpost.
The sharpness, gamma and contrast are cranked way the f up on the Xbox version (there's black crush and aliasing everywhere) to give the superficial impression the screenshot "looks better" in the same way Best Buy screws with all the sliders on their TVs to make the image "pop" for customers. I dunno if it's just the way it was captured or what, but from first glance, it looks like the Xbox One suffers from gamma problems, much like the 360 did.

Really obvious lack of AO on the Xbox version on this last photo (you can read more about AO here). Check the guy's foot, and around the brick in both.
In any case:
One version of the game is 720p with zero AA and a total lack of AO while the other is 900p with HBAO and a much more stable framerate. Running at a lower resolution and with less shader effects could arguably be considered worse than what people expected.
edit: haven't seen the non DF footage yet, but apparently they had issues with the settings of their capture card.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
At first glance I personally thought the x1 one looked better.. Ps4 also looked good. The difference are extremely slight. But what I don't see is a 50% power difference.. I think that's the most telling thing here.
Either way I'm glad I'm getting both..Last edited by Scoop 24; 10-29-2013, 06:03 AM.NFL:New York Jets

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
That said, I don't think we're going to see games utilizing all of the PS4's advantages right away. Look at games from any console's launch compared to the games 5 years down the line. The PS4 is supposed set up for when GPGPU is much more frequently used. It seems like with BF4 at least, the Xbox One is having to ditch AA and AO just to keep up, at a lower resolution.Last edited by Trapper700; 10-29-2013, 06:35 AM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
For those wondering what ambient occlusion looks like, this is the best example on DF. It's night and day.
Look at the Xbox One's complete lack of subtle shadows on the reflective elevator doors -- both the guns and the humans.
It's even more noticeable in motion and this is quite taxing on the GPU. The fact that the PS4 can add additional effects like this while pushing 44% more pixels and still maintaining a framerate advantage is quite impressive.
Edit: Apparently, the review copy that they were given was not the final version of the game. Xbox One will get AO also, but who knows how that will affect the framerate (which it will, depending on how much they use).

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I was surprised by the Jaggies. Pretty severe.
Other than that I couldn't tell much of a difference.
