I've never tried classic. I'm interested in trying it but I have one concern/question. How much control do you have over your pitches? I've always avoided using it because I thought that my pitches would be everywhere.

Control depends on your pitcher's ratings. The better your pitcher's control rating, the better control you'll have.

Classic pitching is more fun, IMHO, because you'll make mistakes. I had too much control with the meter, although I haven't used the meter in a few years.

Yea I have come to use classic pitching completely this year after going back and forth with it and meter last year, I think it adds so much more realism to the game as to me meter made it irrelevant who you had on the mound as long as you could hit that little target on the accuracy slide you was good, now with classic I find myself really scouting out pitchers more and looking for more complete pitchers

as i've said this is my first time playing MLB again, but I say this is insane (in a good way) of having many options on how to play this game. Hope that other sport games such as NHL, NBA could go this deep in options. No wonder tons of PS fans are praising this game.

I'm planning to play the whole 162 games...it will be awhile since NHL will be released in PS4 and Im still skeptical about EA's effort with this franchise. Skipped last year because I've been disappointed with EA's NHL since 2009. And if I dont like the NHL or NBA 2k, then I have a complete year to enjoy this game

BTW, thanks for your opinions....appreciate them all

Yeah, as a new comer the varying amounts of input you have with the gameplay is amazing to me.

            And the presentation.

Honestly its a pretty good game when I'm playing it correctly.

I play with meter pitching, zone hitting and assisted fielding. I try to keep everything the same because I play on the Vita as well.

Last night, I played 2 games with my Mariner franchise. I am amazed that you have tons of Spring training games! You can practice your guys and to know their strengths and weaknesses. I love it! In EA NHL, I think you only have 4 games of preseason and that's it. In real NHL, if I'm not mistaken its about 8 games or more for preseason. I know that NHL is more physical than MLB (except if people in the dug-out come out and have a slugfest), you cant do that in NHL

Just quick question, in manual pitching, some of the pitches have that ball (with some down arrow (?) underneath the ball) and glove, do you need to be in the middle of the glove or have that last downward "arrow" be at the middle of the glove? As of now, I am using the meter pitching....I might change it in the future.

I put the arrow at the glove. I figured that's where he wants the ball to finish.
I also don't always go where they want as sometimes the pitch call + the location makes pitches with movement ..move less.
So if I want maximum movement I make sure none of the arrows disappear when I move to a pitch location.

I love the idea of Quick Counts (cuts my game length in half) but I felt less in control of my at bats. Sometimes I like to swing at the first pitch or work a count but QC takes that choice away.

On another note, I hate how spoiled we've gotten as gamers. I saw someone tweet the other day complaining that the load times on ps4 were a minute and a half vs. 30 seconds on the ps3. A WHOLE MINUTE MORE THAN THE PS3! The guy was describing it like it was a game killer.

I guess I come from a different generation. My second console was a Nintendo where half the games I had didn't work unless I blew air into it and used alcohol to clean the cartridge. I can wait an extra minute for a game to load.

PS4 acting really weird. First it froze when I tried to start MLB The Show (disc version, not digital). It wouldn't start the game, and it wouldn't let me move the icon around in the menus or do anything, but if I held the PS button it would allow me to go into standby or turn it off. So I tried turning it off. That was 10 minutes ago. The screen went black but the machine still has the white light on it and it's gently pulsing like it usually does when it's shutting down.

Do I unplug it? Or do I just let it do whatever it's doing? I'm scared of unplugging it and having it to something to the hard drive, but I also don't like what it's doing and I'm wondering if it could be doing more damage to just leave it rather than stopping it and saving it from itself if you know what I mean.

I haven't tried quick counts yet for that very reason. I'm not saying that I never will, but I feel like battle of working the count against the pitcher gets taken away a bit. I think it was smart of them to include it as an option though, because it seems to be very well-received for the most part. The more options the better.

And yes, we've gotten very spoiled lol. I used to blow into my Nintendo cartridges as well, but one of the first things I bitched about was how long the game was taking the load when I first popped it in. It's definitely a minor complaint overall though, considering how much I'm enjoying the game.

I'm too anal about being in control of every stat accumulated in sports games to use quick counts or sim a game. I've gone as far as to stop playing a game for like a week because I accidentally simmed a game with auto save turned on. It bothered me that much.

                              Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I will always, ALWAYS, use auto base-running. I have never felt comfortable with base-running controls in any baseball video game. Far too many button presses and multi-tasking for me in a game. I'm sure it's really not that dramatic, but I just don't want to deal with it. So I let the CPU deal with it and it always makes much better decisions than me.

I was big on auto-fielding for a few years, but this year I'm trying assist and enjoying it since it feels like the fielder ratings have a bigger effect on the result.

The primary reason I used auto-fielding was to avoid making the game too similar. It didn't matter if it was Albert Belle or Tori Hunter in centerfield. I saw the ball and ran to it. Now, there feels like a much bigger difference and I'm enjoying that aspect of the game.

Classic pitching for the same reasons. I want the ratings to have a bigger impact on the pitch location. Meter was too exact for me. I don't like analog.

Timed hitting as well. Most disagree with me on this but I don't believe that hitting is based on lining up your bat to the ball. I think that happens instinctually and the only thing that truly affects hitting is your timing and the window associated with it.

I also like knowing that a weak hitting infielder is going to be a weak hitting infielder even with good timing because I didn't help him line up that bat perfectly.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I can't sim anything. Every stat has to be "mine." And if I change a setting in a dynasty, I usually wind up starting over. I have major OCD issues with my sports games.
