    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I was under the impression it was a net flix type of pricing. I guess not. I am sure they will correct this, because I wouldn't pay that much for a game.

Well, its still the beta so hopefully they listen to the feedback and adjust as necessary.

What I don't understand is it's a beta to work out kinks and get feedback, why the hell are they charging people to try out certain games? Seems completely counter productive to the entire goal of the beta in the first place unless they wanted fewer people to try it and more backlash on the pricing. The only people trying it now are "gamers" and those people aren't paying those ridiculous prices typically, so if the market they're going after are the people who aren't "gamers" and don't own Playstation products already then this charging for some games through the beta makes even less sense.

Does seem like that would be some more of that "added value" that they're always looking for, particularly to show that PS+ is better than XBL.

Hopefully within the beta there will be refunds for games that are rented and end up not performing correctly. Subscription service pricing would be nice, but it'd have to be very expensive or super widely adopted for it to be financially viable right?

Actually, Chef it does make sense. (Well, I do agree with you regarding charging people during beta...That's just dumb and greedy). Remember, the game publishers are setting the opening prices on their games. Sony is offering the Gaikai service. The market (we gamers) will determine the prices going forward. We hardcore gamers are a test for them since we love to spend. Look at us now. Many of us are buying digital games instead of the physical disc. Casuals have no idea what Gaikai is or what PSNow offers. If no one buys/rent then prices will fall. Basic Laws of Economics. The game publishers, well some of them are shooting for the moon since this is a new type of service. I can somewhat understand that. When I put my house up for sale one day, so will I.

Looks like most stores have dropped The Last of Us Remastered to $49.99 (Amazon, Target, GameStop). Best Buy will be doing it soon. Good news for Best Buy GCU members.

I'd advise against listing a house for well above market value, but that's a discussion for another topic.

I was about to ask has Sony release a way to play PS3 games on the PS4. Guess it answer my question but all that money just to play it is absurd. They need to fix the price or make it $25-30 to keep a game.

It isn't because it still costs them money when you use it (bandwidth) and potentially continued licensing expenses.

I thought they were talking about doing some form of purchase program too though at some point.

I'm not talking about them charging overall, even though those prices in the example are beyond idiotic and have no chance of ever competing with the market that plays games on Facebook etc, but the sheer idea that they are in essence asking for the public to beta test the program to work the kinks out while wanting to charge them for specific games is assanine at best. It would be like the guys over at SCEA asking members here to come out for Community Day and then charging them to see the game and play it even though the entire reason they're out there is to help and give feedback on the game itself, it makes no logical sense.

You know that most people (including myself) would pay for that experience, though.

You are acting like there aren't free games on there, pricing is part of the beta test. I got this email earlier:

                            Hi Private Beta Testers,

We just wanted to give you all a quick update on the next phases of PlayStation Now. As you may have heard, at our E3 Press Conference we announced that PlayStation Now will be moving into an Open Beta, first starting on PS4 system on July 31, 2014. We are excited to get PlayStation Now in the hands of all PS4 users - so there is a lot of excitement for July 31 to come around. If you didn't see our E3 trailer - take a look at it here.

Now it's time for Private Beta news. On 6/18 you will have seen a title rotation which includes a fresh set of games as well as the introduction of a preliminary pricing test.

Inside this first test, you will find a variety of rental prices and rental periods to choose from. These prices are ultimately decided on by the participating developers and publishers. Your feedback during this next phase of the Private Beta is extremely important, as we will be monitoring it closely.

PS. If you have a rental period in progress for a game that just got rotated out: don't worry! You will still be able to access the rental up until the end of its rental duration by finding the game in your "My Games" section.

Please give us your feedback in these Private Beta Forums or email us at [email protected].<wbr>com and help shape the future of PlayStation Now

                            Thanks,
                            The PlayStation Now Team
All this is new to these publishers and, for all we know, somebody at Sony knows all to well these prices are ridiculous but the publishers won't listen. So they push some of these proposed prices to the beta storefront hoping for a ton of negative feedback to take to these publishers.

Ive read if your internet isnt insanely good then you're SOL.

And those beta prices are criminal.
