Network settings, set up internet connection, manual, then manual the MTU settings.


Beware though, I was reading up on this last night for a guy in my M15 league, and there are people that say altering the MTU settings can mess things up. I don't know if it applies as much to video game systems, but just a heads up that y'all might want to research a little for yourself before changing them.

Here's an explanation of MTU is/does and why lowering the number seems to be working for a vast majority of users. Found this on Reddit..

The MTU value controls the largest size packet that can be sent without packet fragmentation. Lowering the value means less data is sent per packet and lessens the chance of packet fragmentation if additional headers are added to the packet.


One theory is that Sony implemented some kind of DDOS mitigation that causes the packet size to increase, which fragments the packet. Normally a fragmented packet will still work (it sends two packets), but if the packet isn't put back in the correct order it can't be processed. Putting packets back together requires keeping track of them and the number of requests could simply overwhelm Sony's servers. That leads to Sony's servers ignoring requests from the PS4 which leads to a connect lost error.
Another theory is that Sony simply misconfigured their routers or firewalls during the DDOS attack with the same end result.


Basically know one but Sony could say why this works, assuming even they know. Considering it took 2 days longer to bring up PSN, they obviously aren't networking experts.


The downside to using a lower MTU is that traffic which normally could be sent with 1 packet, may now require 2 which doubles the amount of traffic. As such it would be in Sony's best interest to fix whatever they did.
For what it's worth the highest MTU that currently let's me connect is 1477.

What exactly are you trying to do here that requires an email? Is this the initial setup or something? I am back online with my original ps4 and I now have a 2nd ps4 installed and downloading all my digital programs. Only thing I can't do yet is claim my free game via the website. This is the 4 games choose 1 promo. Was gonna grab destiny since I have the other titles already.

For me it's a brand new PS4 and I had to activate it. It all worked when they went back online last night and I downloaded The Last of Us, and it's ready to go.

They are USB, they don't connect to the controller.



Controller outputs stereo.

Just a heads up these do hook into the controller. I got these for Christmas and they work on my ps4 and vita!

They're awesome but they only do virtual sound when hooked to the provided USB port . But they're far better than the 5 dollar headphones I was using haha!

If anyone is still getting the NW-31194-8 error when trying to log in. Go to internet settings and manually change the MTU from 1500 to 1473. I did this and got right on, and am playing TLOU Factions.

Just an FYI to everyone, the number can be anywhere from 1400 to 1500 (and probably higher). The most common one has been 1473, however there's been other's that have worked after people ran the MTU tests on their computer.

My buddies was actually 1500.

Luckily it didn't matter because we ended up getting on soon after I went through like 20 MTUs that didn't work.

Offices are probably closed till tomorrow.

I'm having a problem with Seagate not responding to me contacting them on Christmas. They gave me a case number, but didn't even e-mail me a receipt for it as well. I can't call them today either because they are closed.

Not only did I change the MTU last night to 1473, I also did the DNS change as well. Every game and PSN work beautifully now (since last night).

I got the 4 games, choose 1 deal as well. You can't redeem your game from the PS Store on the PS4?
