First we don't even no for sure if the leaks where 100% real and second there where also rumors about Sony and 2 different ideas of specs to use for NEO. So even if the leaks where real sony may have already had a idea of a higher spec NEO then the leak in the first place and also the leak was months and months ago. Also power is not ever thing any way. If NEO comes around a year before Scorpio and is cheaper that is going to help a lot to. I have heard people say that Scorpio is going to cost a lot and even if Say NEO is 400 and Scorpio is 400 when it comes out considering its over a year or so in till Scorpio comes out Sony could just then price cut the NEO right around the time Scorpio comes out to get cheaper again.
Because if the final devkits go out in early September and Neo gets released in October, you have to think that the console is already in the manufacturing stage. Neo first emerged at GDC in March when Sony was talking to publishers about it. Less than six months is not enough time to start changing specs. Plus, the devkits that publishers already have then would be useless because of the spec change. And it's actually more like three months because Sony didn't expect Microsoft to just go all out with Scorpio. Three months is simply not enough time. And delaying Neo until early 2017 is not going to happen because Sony would miss the holiday shopping season plus effective October 1st, all games are required to have a Neo mode. This tells me Neo is coming sooner rather than later.

Power is everything. If it wasn't, Neo and Scorpio wouldn't exist. Sony and especially Microsoft want their consoles to match high end PC's so they definitely need to be powerful. Personally, I still believe that Neo is due to PSVR (and yes, JareBear will disagree with me on this forever) and Scorpio is due to Microsoft wanting to have a "do over" for this generation. It's all about the power. It's the power and increased specs that will give you better resolution, frame rates, 4K, etc. Consoles can't go lower and still give that to consumers.

Price wise, im still sticking with base PS4 dropping to $300 and Neo being $400 for the 500GB. Sony would be stupid to go higher than that even though I do see them releasing a 2TB GT Sport bundle for $500. The base PS4 was $400 and three years later, consoles get cheaper, not a new more expensive model. Scorpio is rumored to be $600 or higher. I believe the extra year will allow Microsoft to lower the price and launch it at $400. Microsoft will take the loss on the console in order to get it into gamers households.

Console manufacturers rarely if ever make money on the consoles. They make the majority of their money on software and subscriptions but you can only do that if you get people to purchase the console. Making the console cheaper than expected is how they accomplish that goal. It's all about getting the console in the consumer's household first and foremost because if you can't accomplish that, nothing else matters.

Well you talk about how Consoles don't show in Japan and that is why I was thinking that Sony was skipping Tokyo game show but considering NEO is going to be shown September 7th and considering Tokyo game show is like the last big show before PSVR comes out and most likely NEO to if they don't show those 2 things at Tokyo game show I am not sure what else they would really show then. Well I am not sure if people are really being harder on games this gen or not. I don't know how many games got a 90 or better on ps3 but I also think this gen has not been that good so far but is starting to get better now. While I don't have a lot of games right now but I do have like to many games over all because of my backlot from past gens lol.
Sony would just show games like they did last year. If the games don't sell or move units for the base PS4, then Neo and PSVR isn't going to do anything. Japan is like 95% mobile or some crap like that. Consoles are basically dead on arrival in Japan. That culture and region is far different from NA and Europe where consoles still do very well. Besides, it's the games that will move the consoles. If the games don't do it, nothing else will.

I'm actually enjoying this gen more than last gen thus far and it should only increase for me. There are things that I still hate and think is a rip-off but the games themselves have been good or better for me. Yeah, I have a few games that I finished in the 6-7 range but for the most part, the majority of games that I have finished are at least an 8 or higher.

If I was to include past gens and buy back those consoles, my backlog would easily be in the hundreds but simply time to move on from the past and move forward with games.

Well I think TLG has a lot of hype around it and like I said I never even played SOTC or ICO in till the other day and even before that I had a lot of hype for TLG so I don't think it is just a small group or people who played the other 2 games that want to get the game. Now maybe it is not going to do like 15m or something but I do think it will do more then just like 1 million.
As someone who completed both TR games 100%, ROTTR is easily far better in every way. Crystal Dynamics did the big open-ended areas correctly as opposed to Naughty Dog who did the same with Uncharted 4 but the difference is that both games are different in style and premise. The open-ended areas in Uncharted 4 were basically just empty filler or for you to drive the jeep around. Some of it was cool and good but at the same time, underwhelming and disappointing mainly because it's not what Uncharted is meant to be. ROTTR is meant for exploration, scavenging, gathering, etc. and in that regard, the big area maps are a success. Story and characters are the weak spot in ROTTR but it's better than TR 2013 and everything else is top notch so it makes up for it. I still think that ROTTR is thus far Xbox One's best exclusive game. Granted, that's only for another six weeks but still, that's saying something.

I'm double dipping on ROTTR because I definitely want to play it again and want to play the Lara Croft Manor story as well as all the other DLC. Plus, being disappointed with Uncharted 4, I definitely need to wash that taste out of my mouth so that's another reason why I want to play it. TR 2013 was good but ROTTR is better in every way. Have to wait and see how TLG does because it's in a bad spot. Too packed imo.

Yep, even if it is only the OG rumored specs, I would be MORE than happy with that. 2.3 times the power, 4.2TF machine... I think people underestimate what they can put out graphically, especially with what UC4 has done on a 1.84TF box (and what is to come on an OG PS4 with Horizon, GoW, etc.).

I think they will increase the clocks a little if anything, it will push it some more, and that is all they will need to do for their Playstation ecosystem.

I am starting to buy the 4KUHD Blu-rays now (for the must have movies, otherwise I just stream) since they all contain the standard 1080p BR in them for not much more money brand new, so I will be ready to watch them in 4K when this hits.

          Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

The one thing that aggravates me the most is that despite Neo being upgraded and Scorpio being considered a full gen leap is that one major issue still exists and that's all the pop-in that occurs in every damn game. The Witcher 3 has it and Horizon's E3 gameplay video had a lot of it. Sadly, I was hoping that the extra power would help minimize this problem but yet, it has nothing to do with the power of the consoles. It comes down to the developers and them optimizing the games. Hoping that with Neo and Scorpio, developers start optimizing better and lessen the pop-in for future games.

^^^^^ Was just about to post that. Seriously, WTF is Sony doing? It's almost like they're trying to shoot themselves in the foot. And on a related note, it will be funny as hell if at the PlayStation Meeting, a slim is announced and shown yet they ignore Neo. LOL.

If that's real, that's pretty gross IMO.

It's ugly and it's pretty much the same thing, the PS4 is already pretty slim...and why no space upgrade?

                  Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Depends on the size... rumor has it, that it looks similar to the Mac Mini. Which if it is about that size, then that would be something. (Look how small it is next to the controller). If it is truly that small, then it won't look as bad in person, again, Mac Mini like (but won't look as good if OG PS4 in width/depth).

Model number appears to say... CUH-2016A.

Which would line up with current revisions of model numbers to be a slim.

                    So true.

I am all-in on the NEO and have no interest in a slim but I guess it makes sense. Hasn't every console since last-gen gotten a slim redesign at some point?

Actually, going back to the NES era, there's been a slim model for nearly every console. The recent lone exception that I can remember was the original Xbox. There wasn't a slim for Nintendo 64, Gamecube or Wii U but in fairness, all three were pretty damn small to begin with.

Last gen, there was two slim models for Xbox 360 and PS3. I preferred the sliding tray door on the super slim PS3.

I updated with cleaner pics that were found.

Same here. All in on Neo, but the Slim will have their 'priced right' crowd that will continue to drive sales in the ecosystem.

Yes, Since the PSOne days, there have have been slims. Hell, even Nintendo 'slimed (ugly as sin)' the NES and SNES into the CD rom generations.

OG Japan/PAL Super Famicon is still a great design (top right) till this day to me. The US one we got was, eh. I always felt like they got the better of the machine, down to even the colored buttons.

The dopest slim has been the PS2 final one. That little thing was a sleek, tiny marvel.
Genesis did a nice looking 'slim'.

That was my MLB The Show machine on my desk through a good 2.5 years into the 360 gen, until I bought a PS3 for '08.

Here it is out of the box... and it looks much better than in the box photo.

Sleek and Mac Mini shades like rumored.

                          Definitely #TeamReal

Much smaller if you look at the BR slot and the controller size. Current PS4 is about 2 DS's wide, this one appears to be 1.5 wide.

Rounded edges make it look like it's made out of foamcore or something.

edit: the feet on the bottom being PS controller letters kinda pushes me over the edge from fake to real for some reason, lol.

Yeah nice pics, definitely looks better there than in the previous ones. I guess it's cool for anyone that doesn't have a PS4 yet and isn't getting a NEO, plus as you mentioned it probably saves on production cost.

I'm still super excited for the NEO but the hype has died down for me a bit, I don't really play many adventure/action games like Uncharted, etc. so for me the extra performance probably won't be as noticeable in this year before the Scorpio comes out.

I just want to hear more about it.

I hope it supports 4k and isn't just a straight revision, that seemed to be the early point of disbelief in the GAF thread. There are pros and cons to that move of course.
