    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Long story shortish, PS4*Pro now won't boot after the 4.55 update installing and me leaving it in rest mode overnight with MLB 17 in the console. All games were exited from before putting in rest mode. Never, ever had an issue before but now it won't even try to start. I woke up this morning and the console was off. No power surge, spikes, or outages occured while I was sleeping bc my Xbox One is still powered on, as is another TV.

Time to investigate although my initial internet searches haven't provided very much hope.

Before I abandon ship on gaming for the foreseeable future (I can't afford to have it repaired or replaced and it's a Pro launch unit with my PS4 library about 80/20 over the XBO), anyone here on OS had a similar problem and solved it?

I've been at it since about 4:55 a.m. with no success.

Additional info: After unplugging the console for a few minutes and trying to power it on, it will attempt to come on and the blue light will flash for roughly one second then go back off again. Does this mean that the PSU is done most likely?

    Thanks

I'm seriously thinking about picking up a 2nd PS4 with me and two kids all playing. It will also allow us to play online together and even share a digital game if we have them. I'd like to get a Pro but the price gap between that and a Slim is so wide right now. PS4 Slim bundles go on sale for C$299 (right now at BB) vs a Pro for C$499. Add 13% tax and that gap is around $225 plus UC4 value. I do have a 4K TV but that's our TV viewing upstairs and wouldn't really be gaming on that. Torn on waiting for a price drop in the future or just pulling the trigger today.

So I'll document what happened so far... in case it helps anyone in the future. I had the MLB 17 disc stuck in there so I removed that with the manual eject screw.

Then after trying seemingly everything, I unplugged everything. Power, HDMI, external HDD, camera, everything and let it sit for 20 minutes. Also changed outlets on the power strip.

After replugging JUST the power cable, it turned on. Then I reconnected the HDMI, the external HDD, and the camera. The external HDD had to be repaired it said but I didn't lose any data. So I don't know if it was an external HDD issue, a rest mode issue or just a general issue that happens on ps4s (never had one problem before today).

At any rate I'm back up and running now. Played a game of MLB 17 and all was well.

Worried me pretty bad and I still don't want to turn the machine off for fear it may not turn back on.

But for now it's working. Didn't require safe mode or anything, just said that it wasn't shut down properly. Idk.

Since the Pro model has been out less than a year aren't you covered under the 1 year warranty? I would ship it out to Sony and get it repaired. Good luck

Almost a no-brainer for me. My second PS4 is a regular one (Hate the term vanilla) and I have absolutely no desire to upgrade it to a pro even though I absolutely love my main PS4 which is a pro. Considering that this second PS4 would not be used on a 4K/HDR tv, it wouldn't be worth an additional 225 (plus UC4) to go with the pro in that situation.

With all that said, maybe I have completely missed the boat, but you mentioned that you could share digital games with your kids. Has PS changed this and I just didn't hear about it? Wasn't aware that you could share digital games with another PSN. I think I have seen something about sub-accounts, but do they allow you to have sub-accounts for your kids or something to share your content?

There is a way to share, my son and I do it. I had to make my sons ps4 my primary and then he logs in under his psn id. My ps4 I just log in with my psn id. When I purchase games digitally I buy them under my psn id on my ps4. We then go to his ps4(my primary) and download the game to the system under my id and then log into the system under his id and the game is there for him to play.

                  Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

There is a perfectly legit way to use both PS4s if you buy only ONE digital copy and one PS+ account.

Basically, the biggest gamer should buy the games digitally and have the PS+ account. That user can play their games on any PS4 regardless if it's their primary console or not (you can only have one primary). But on their primary PS4 anyone can play their games and be online. So for my family, my kids would be able to play any game on my Primary PS4. If I got a second PS4 I could play on that secondary system and any digital games while my kids could also play the same game on the primary system. My kids could not play any online game on the secondary PS4 but it would work great. It would actually be better if I bought my next PS+ account through my son along with digital copies since he's the primary online gamer. Read the full article along with one quote below.

"The first method: This is how we have the PS4s set up in my own home. Our main room console is set up as primary for both my wife and I. All games that we purchase or redeem are done on her account, so that when she logs in on the second console, she can still play them, despite it not being her primary. This allows me to log in and play games on our main PS4, and her to play them on her second one without any locks or limitations. It also allows us to play online multiplayer games like The Division or Garden Warfare 2 together, even though we’ve only purchased or redeemed the license on her account. The downside of this setup is that she cannot play any games that I’ve purchased or redeemed on my account unless she is on our main PS4."

Well I picked up a PS4 Slim but the WIFI is not really working. It connected but the download speed was in kb/s. It was going to take over a day to download the new 339 MB update. I tried both my 2.4 and 5 GHZ settings and both beyond terrible. Had to plug a hard wired connection to get it. Not sure what is going wrong. My OG PS4 is no problem.

Edit: I'm seriously getting only 81 kbs on my last test through WIFI. It's ridiculous. It says its setting up but both 2.4 and 5 ghz absolutely suck. LAN has zero issues. I hope it's not the network card inside.

Crap. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me something that could fix this easily. This is brutal.

I tried to think of something you could do but if you've already reset the PS4, reset your router and you know your wifi is ok with other wifi devices then I can't think of anything else really..

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing but my Slim has no issues at my brothers place. That means it's my router. Ugh. I have tried some things but this is brutal.

It's a new TP Archer 2600. My old ps4 had no issues.

If you were in Columbus I have an old router I could give you. I take it you have no Microcenters there? They have decent ones for like $15
