Final details after more testing. It only happens when my controller dies while I have the "Party" app open. (snapped or in background, doesnt matter)

So final details. Volume lowers 50% when controller turns off while in a party.

And when watching TV, or no matter what you do?

hmm it appears to be everything actually. Also I noticed if you switch party settings to "game chat" the volume does not lower, but if you keep it in "party chat" it does. Maybe it is designed to be that way. interesting.

But regardless of that setting, it only happens when the controller turns off?

Is it just me or does the Xbox stop listening after increasing/decreasing the volume? That's very nice. Or maybe it's just timing out listening for commands while it sends the 10 up/down pulses and the time out is a little shorter or something now?

Not a complaint at all, it's great, since maybe user research would show that volume commands are one-offs and don't go hand in hand with other commands.

...or it's just a happy accident.

If we'd gotten a kinect-less SKU we'd have bought a Kinect by now, it's priceless to pause or play while changing a diaper or with a sleeping infant/toddler on your chest being able to navigate around without the remote or controller that always seem to be on the opposite side of the room.

Completely in agreement with you on the Kinect's value.

Regarding the volume thing, I think it's just a happy accident, but it's possible some of the voice guys are smarter than I give them credit for. Any easy way to test would be to lower your volume increment to 2 and try it again. If I remember, I'll test it out at work tomorrow.

Seriously. We don't always use the kinect commands, but when we do it's amazing and helps us a lot. Muting can be faster, pausing, etc. Just worth it IMO. I know a lot of the gamers in the Xbox One thread aren't interested in that stuff, but it's great in situations.

My xbox is even better at turning on for me lol. I bet once we can submit voice info to MS it'll get even better with all that test data too.

if i keep the sidebar up, it seems to always lower, but if i have the tv on fullscreen it is only when the controller turns off.

I emailed with some folks, and they think it's by design because when your controller turns off, that means your headset has turned off as well. Does that make sense? It seems like you may have discovered something similar as well.

I have seen something similar minus the controller turning off. If I have tv on full screen, open the party notification popup to accept an invite, tv goes to about half volume when the party app snaps. If i go directly to a game "Xbox go to Dead Rising 3"...volume stays at about half. If I quit out of party first (pressing B, i think "xbox unsnap" works too), then volume returns to normal.

So to fix if you go open party then back out of it, volume should go back to normal.

Just an update for those of you who had previously asked. Among other updates in June, you can now power on and off your devices using discrete power commands, not just toggles.

Go to TV & OneGuide Settings -> Device Control -> Power settings to configure this.

One improvement I have had since the June update is that I get perfect handshaking between the console and my Yamaha reciever. I had issues when turning on the Xbox of only getting sound but no picture. A simple turning off and on of my AVR would solve it every time. But since the update, everything works perfectly.

I second this. I'm now set for input "one" on my receiver. TV, games, and streaming are happening through the One now.

Studbucket, you said over time your Kinect "learns" from your voice commands and that does seem to be the case....so I have a question.. I recently won $$$ on vacation and plan to purchase another Xbox zone for downstairs...will the "learning" in regards to Kinect be a part of that Xbox and going forward will using one be shared with the other in that regards?

P.s.do you know of any special editions of Xbox One coming out soon? Like Sony has the white PS4 coming...I'd love to get an Xbox One that doesn't look exactly the dame as my Day One edition....
