Oh ok. Thanks. I never use my controller while watching tv so that explains why I've never seen it.

Up/down on the d-pad will also bring up the miniguide.

Nothing I do on the screen, from hitting the home button to launching apps, or even watching TV helps. All of it is dimmed, just ask t would if the console had been left untouched for a long period of time.

It is not a hard reset that fixes it, but just the normal, turn it off, turn it on. So the 10 second option.

I did finally fins mention of it in the Xbox One support forums, and it seems like a hard reboot may fix it. I will give that a try, which I probably should have done before. That does seem to fix most issues.

Did the hard reboot fix the issue? It sounds like it either thought an overlay was up all the time (like how OneGuide dims the screen) or that it thought you were inactive mistakenly.

Yeah, the dimming was exactly like when the One Guide comes up, but with no guide. And it extended into the dashboard and any apps or games I ran.

But yes, it seems that a hard reset has fixed the issue.

Is there a voice command for the "Previous Channel" button on the cable remote?

Couldn't remember if it was in or not. No biggie, just nice for when I'm flipping between some tougher to say channels watching College Football (ie. a game on Big Ten network 2 channel or something)

Good question and something that has certainly been requested. Right now there's no way to do it. You have to say the channel name.

I have to get on the ball and hook the One back up to my TV, seems like IM missing out, I haven't cause I thought I kill my system more by keeping it on to watch TV through it all the time...LOL

The Xbox One was designed to be "always on" (whether fully on or in standby) for 10 years, so you should be in good shape there.

Good question and something that has certainly been requested. Right now there's no way to do it. You have to say the channel name.

Thanks...no biggie, just always forget some of the existing stuff too.

Hilarious how my wife and I are now accustomed to yelling at the Xbox to turn it on...if it takes a bunch of times we just complain that the Xbox hates us lol

Remotes are still good for a lot of stuff, but love the voice channel changing and play/pause.

I just setup the one to my cable box last night...DAMN WHAT WAS I WAITING FOR!!!

This is great, IM loving it, my son loves it too LOL.. I have to now explore all I could with it later tonight.

Some other things to check out, especially if you use it for TV:
1) The Xbox One Media Remote. Fits well in everyone's hands in the family, simple, and you can instantly use it without needing to pair a controller or anything else like that.

2) SmartGlass. Full OneGuide and universal remote control on the SmartGlass app, so you can browse your DVR and on-demand content from STB.

3) If you like saying "Xbox volume up", you can change the increment by which the volume goes up or down (between 1-10) to suit your TV/AVR.

Studbucket, my kinect seems to not be on for my upstairs Xbox One. I noticed it last night while we were watching tv, so wasn't able to mess with it much.

Anything I can look for? The lights aren't on, and I did try unplugging/plugging it in and doing a hard reboot before giving up for the night (baby was sleeping so I had to be quiet). It'd been fine until now...

Is this something I could contact MS about and they'd help me get it fixed (if I can't get it working on my own?)

Try it on the other Xbox One (sounds like you have 2?) to confirm its a problem with the unit.

Yeah unplugged the working one and the broken one didn't work on that One. Plugged the working one back in and that worked fine. Also tried the suggestions on the MS support site so I guess I just fill out the return form on website tomorrow night.

I didn't test the good one upstairs cause it's a pain to get that unhooked. Still seems like upstairs Kinect is broken unless anything else to try.
