You can also change channels using an IR extension cable if you don't have a kinect; or you can keep using your cable remote.

I could get it to re-pair, but then it'd break next time.

Dunno why she had to change that setting on the tv itself, but it's fixed now. Just have to go re-add all our favorite channels
Ah gotcha. Weird. We also have that setting in the TV app, so I thought you were referring to that.

So I just picked up a One and everything is great so far except for one small issue. While I have live TV snapped and I'm playing a game the live TV picture is choppy/laggy. Anyone ever come across this issue?

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

Is this with HDMI-in or the USB TV tuner?

It shouldn't be choppy. Have you tried a hard reboot? (press+hold power button for 10 seconds)

It's with HDMI-in. It's only when it's snapped and I'm playing. If I go full screen it's smooth and when I pause the game while snapped it's smooth. I did a hard reset and it was still the same thing.

Edit: Now that I think about it while I was playing the master chief collection it was still downloading and installing the rest of the games. I wonder if that could be part of it?

Ah, that could do it. Playing a game + installing a game uses a ton of system resources and that impacts apps like live TV. If the content was 1080i, then we'd also have to interlace it, and we may not have had the system resources to do that.

If you have no game installing, do you still see it?

After everything finished installing and another hard reboot it's still doing it. It's a slight stutter in the snapped TV picture. I don't know if that's just how it is because like I said it only happens while the game is being played, when I pause the game the snapped TV runs smooth as can be.

Have you tried different channels, or setting your STB to output 720P instead of 1080i? (both resolutions carry the same amount of information, and are essentially the same, so you aren't downgrading like you would be from 1080p)

It's possible that certain content is tougher for us to deinterlace.

I'll give it a shot and thank you for the suggestions. It's not a big problem since it only does it while I'm playing the game. I'm usually focused on the game and if I want to focus on TV then I'll pause the game and it's all good when I pause. It just happened to catch my eye and I just wanted to make sure my system was all good. You know how it is when you get anything new lol.

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?

I just got a Xbox One and tried to set up the live tv thing and it worked but it wouldn't let me setup OneGuide because I don't have kinect or an IR cable. So I guess my question is do I need either of those to be able to use the guide?

I was hoping to take advantage of the live TV feature but I guess I'm a little confused on how it works. If I get an IR cable is there a remote that I can control the TV with? or can I use my cable provider's remote?

I use the IR blaster (emitter) cable. It has 3 separate emitters on it (one to stick on each, for my tv, receiver and cable box). So when I turn on my Xbox One, the Xbox One sends a signal through the IR emitter to turn on the TV and Receiver (my cable box never turns off so I disable that but could have added that power on / off if you so choose)

You can configure One Guide through the devices I think. Just tell the provider and box you have and the One Guide should load up.

I use my Xbox One controller to change channels now. It is great. My normal cable provider remote and my Logitech remote also will still change channels are they did before but using the IR emitter (blaster), allows my Xbox One controller to manage the cable box.

So long story short. First step is going on Xbox One and devices under Settings. Add your cable provider and cable box. But without Kinect (which I don't have) or an IR emitter (which I do have, a 3 headed wire, which is also the maximum heads the IR emitter can have for Xbox One). But without one of these you can view the One Guide but not do anything else with it.

Check amazon. I got my 3 end IR Emitter for like 4 bucks. Works great.

I am send this from memory. I think I'm pretty much on course. Good luck

If I have my TV, cable box, and Xbox, do I need a 3 head emitter? Or will 2 be fine? And that will let me control TV through the Xbox with my current remote, or is that just to let me control it with my xbox controller? I'm still kind of confused.

Basically I am saying I don't want to use my xbox controller as my remote to control TV. Is there any other way to control TV on the system?

Studbucket usually checks in on this thread and he is the expert.

2 will be fine but having one with 3rd will cost you a negligible amount so if you ever do get a surround receiver or what not the 3rd will be there. If you never need it, you can tuck it away.

Without Kinect there is no way to change the channel unless you want to use your controller with the IR Emitter.

Or, you can use Smart Glass app to change channel I think. Or you'll just have to use your standard Cable box or universal remotes to change channel after you've put the HDMI output of the cable box into the input of the hdmi of the Xbox One.

Otherwise, I think, and Studbucket can clean all this up if I am wrong, which I may be but think I'm pretty close.

Thanks shogun, you've been a lot of help.

We control power, volume, and channels via IR blasting. Basically we send signals like your remotes send to your devices. The Kinect is great at this, but the IR extension cable is a much cheaper option, unless you plan on getting an AVR or soundbar, a 2-headed cable is fine, though the price difference between 2 and 3 is probably pretty small.

There are several ways you can control your devices:
                            1) Voice (via Kinect)
                            2) Controller
                            3) SmartGlass
                            4) Xbox One Media Remote: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/a...s/media-remote

I think #4 is what you are asking about, right? A way to control TV without your controller?

Yes, I'm asking about the Media remote. Can I use that to control TV functions? Like view the guide and change channels. It says you can control the One Guide, so does that mean I can select a show and go to it in live TV?

I bought an IR emitter on Amazon, so now I'm just trying to figure out if I should buy the media remote or not.

Yes, the One pulls in TV listings for your provider, selecting a channel will blast that command to your box or tv depending on the configuration.
