Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?
Yeah, was great initially, has gotten pretty poor as the preview has gone on. Wife has outright stopped using it. My 4 year old explaining to my 2 year old that it's Cortana now, not Xbox, was pretty funny to overhear.Comment

Sorry studbucket!
The Verge is about technology and how it makes us feel. Founded in 2011, we offer our audience everything from breaking news to reviews to award-winning features and investigations, on our site, in video, and in podcasts.
Not a priority for our household as we've stopped watching TV aside from on demand stuff, but was looking forward to seeing it completed.I had been looking forward to this since it was first rumored.

Ugh, this sucks...not on the preview yet but just frustrated with how it's working, and yet it'll get worse? ouch.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?
Some of it is just getting used to how to use it, and others it's just the feature failing.
My wife will say 'Hey cortana ... (waits for a response) ... [command]' but sometimes she says the command while Cortana says 'warming up' or something and then has to repeat it. I'm a proponent of all at once... 'Hey Cortana Turn off the Xbox'. Cortana will take a moment to get running, think about it, then you see the command on the screen, takes a second to process it and then asks for confirmation yes/no to put it into sleep mode. When the latter works it's perfect, just conversational commands, working as intended and designed IMO.
The problem is even with both approaches, sometimes it just fails. 'Could not get the bandwidth required' or something. Or will be stuck open (known bug, rarely happens) or is just slow (making the usually 'select, next page, next page, next page' style of voice navigation a bit more burdensome.
So yeah, hoping for Amazon Echo responsiveness might be too much of a lofty goal given the ecosystem being served, but I'm optimistic this will be a much better process when it ships, otherwise it should all be shelved.Comment

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?
It has to get better. Commands are just too long now. It's become a lot easier to just use a remote to do the simple things while watching tv that used to be just a command of "Xbox play" or "Xbox pause". It's not even worth trying to do those things with voice commands right now.Comment

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?
Why can't we get an option to stick with XBox? if cortana isn't a major improvement over the way it is now I can see myself disconnected from the TV and just going back to the old way of doing things.

That's not how MS rolls. It's on Windows 10 which they are forcing on everyone. No reason why they wouldn't do the same on the X1.Comment

Also, like has been said, the "Xbox" trigger is short and can be misunderstood. It's why Google and Apple use longer phrases.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?
I'm honestly surprised they released it at all in its current state. Preview or not. Unless they are going away from the tv integration/voice commands angle in general. Cortana is good right now at inviting people to parties if that person shares their real name. Which most people don't but it's pretty much worse at everything else. We are completely back to our remote until it is seriously overhauled.Comment
