I plan on keeping my PS3. Worst case it's just a Bluray player. Not worth trading in for 100 bucks I have too many games left to play on it. Thankfully I don't need the money when I plan to upgrade to the PS4.

Ok, after one week with the PS4 and one night with the XBone this is where I am at...

The PS4 is definitely the crisper, better looking (graphics) machine.

The Xbone, for me, is more fun and entertaining.

Who knows, I am still giving them both a go.

I picked up both systems and couldn't be happier. yes my wallet is $1000 lighter, but oh well.

PS4 is really nicely put together and twitch is a great inclusion. MLB The Show is my selling point on why I got the system anyway.

X1 is an entertainment machine has my time right now. I'm sorry, but watching TV in snap and playing games all day is a winner in my book. My only wish is that we could switch audio to which ever we wanted. TitanFall is the game I want for X1 and I can't wait.

Yes my main games that I want for the systems both come out in march 2014, but I'm a tech junkie that has to have the next greatest thing.

Great time to be a gamer.

I think they're working on the audio selection stuff, the MS guy in threads here has suggested that (obviously he can't officially say stuff).

Thanks everyone for the input...makes it tough still, but love reading everyone's real life experiences.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I have both systems. Best time to be a gamer for sure. My Quick hits:

            PS4
It wasn't just talk. This ssytem was built as gaming machine. From the interface, the size of the console (it is SLEEK) and the GLORIOUS Share button - Sony has made every intent to wrap this experience around gaming. I Love it. And from a person who HATED the Dual Shock controller -all past 3 iterations - the dual shock 4 is the clear winner this generation.

            XBOX One
Microsoft is ambitious - there is no denying. This machine is massive in size (it dwarfs the PS4) and scope. Its an entertainment hub that just happens to play videogames. The UI needs some streamlining to me - the good stuff is kinda hidden in some ways but this system is built for the long haul. I only have one game - Ryse..and my Lord does it look good - no GREAT. Oh and the way the XBL now shows achievements? It soooo pretty. So very very pretty.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

My console philosophy has always been, "The more the merrier," so here is my unbiased take after spending more than a week with my PS4 and one night with my Xbox One.

The PS4 is sleek and simple, but not so simple that it doesn't feature some very sweet upgrades.

The game DVR, while it doesn't offer as many options as the One's DVR, is much, much, much easier to use. The downside is that currently it only uploads to facebook.

The DS4 is a huge step up from the DS3. The grips are nice, the sticks are further apart, and the redesign of the triggers is excellent. Even so, it still doesn't feel as good in my hands as a 360 controller or the One's controller.

The UI has been bashed by some as boring, but I like it much better than the sterile XMB of the PS3 days. The What's New section is fun to scroll through, and most options are where you would expect them to be. Once we get the ability to set a custom background, I think the new UI will really feel like home.

Multitasking is beautiful on the PS4--actually, I think it's better than the Xbox One's multitasking, even though it's not as highly touted. I say that for two reasons. First, the PS4 will warn you if you're about to close out a game. The One does not. Second, the PS4 will upload your game footage in the background. From what I've seen on Xbox One, you have to stay on the Upload Studio for your stuff to actually upload.

As for the Xbox One, for me it's by far the more innovative of the two. It's the console that might intrigue your non-gamer friends and family when they see TV on the same screen with your web browser. Of course, the system sacrifices some resources to implement these innovations.

The new UI is bold and flashy. I love the fact that it only has 3 screens: home, pins, and store. On the surface it looks reminiscent of the 360 interface, but if you're expecting it to be the same, it will lead to confusion. I've just approached it as a completely new system and I've found it fairly easy to use.

The Kinect sometimes feel like a device sent from the sci-fi gods, and at other times like a hindrance. I feel that the best, most useful function so far is switching between apps, because this is one instance where it actually saves you time. Saying "Xbox, go home" actually more of a pain than just hitting the home button, but saying, "Xbox, go to Netflix" saves you a couple steps, so it's worth using your vocal cords.

As I mentioned before, the Upload Studio has excellent potential, but it's a bit more complex than the PS4's uploading suite, and easier to mess up. The huge advantage for the Xbox One for me is that it uploads directly to Skydrive, which means the video goes right to my PC... which is exactly where I want it.

The new Xbox One controller is super sexy. The analogs have improved grip, the triggers feel amazing, and the D-pad received a massive upgrade. The only area I prefer the 360 (and the DS4 for that matter) is the shoulder buttons. The new LB and RB are just a tiny bit... awkward.

In terms of games, I've only played two games that are multiplat on both systems: Madden 25 and Lego Marvel. In my opinion, Madden does look slightly better on the PS4, but I'm aware that these two games are not the best judge of the systems' respective capabilities.

I'm sure there's a ton of stuff I'm missing, but this has already gotten too long.

Bottom line in these early stages, the PS4 is sleek and simple, yet powerful; the Xbox One is innovative, flashy, and has a ton of potential.

I will say though, that based on expectations alone, the PS4 met my expectations while the Xbox One exceeded them. For most of this year, it looked like the Xbox One was going to be a dumpster fire, and frankly there are still many who are clinging to the bad press that Microsoft created back in May/June. A lot of us were expecting a brutal KO by the PS4, but that's not what we have, guys. We have two well-matched competitors who are going to slug it out this generation.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I got both consoles at launch. I did not own a PS3 (had a PS2), have had Xbox Live for the past 8 years.

PS4: I have NBA2k14, Fifa 14, & Battlefield 4. I really like the controller and I love the way the games look on this system. The first time I played NBA & Battlefield, I was blown away by how awesome they looked. The User interface is simple and clean and it's easy to get around it. Easier than the Xbox One, imo. I've played this everyday and I mainly got the PS4 to play BF4 with OSers. It's a very good machine and I have it in my man cave. It is strictly used for gaming, I haven't used any apps or gone on the internet, etc. My one complaint is the problems with corrupted files and the issues with BF4 online. I've probably had my BF4 game go to the blue screen CE error 40 times in the last week. I've had a couple of NBA games also blue screen me. The PS4 has also frozen on me 3 times where I had to manually turn it off and turn it back on. That sucks, but it hasn't stopped me from playing. Overall, I love the PS4 and look forward to finally playing MLB the Show.

XBOX One: I do not have any games for this system. I've played a couple of demos and they looked great. I'm not a graphics guy, so I'll leave that to someone else. I can't compare any games. I think I will download Forza soon. I have the One hooked up to my DirectTV genie and it works great. The voice commands work almost every time, but I have had to repeat myself on occasion. I love the snap feature. I was able to watch the NFL Sunday ticket yesterday and snap internet explorer to the side that showed my ESPN fantasy league scoreboard. The snap feature is awesome and I can't wait to delve into all of the entertainment options this system provides. It is perfect for my living room. Now I can play games in there and the wife won't be totally upset because she has enjoyed learning how to use it and saying voice commands. (She hasn't even looked at my PS4) Finding things are somewhat more difficult on the Xbox One. I wish both of these things came with a tutorial or an instruction manual. I haven't used the Kinect (outside of the voice) very much, but I did try the Kinect Rivals demo and when my nephews come over this holiday I will get a better idea of how it gonna work. I love the camera and what it does so far, although I have a lot to learn about it. The controller is awesome too, I like both system's controllers.

Bottom line: I'm glad I have both systems. If I was only going to get one, I would've gotten the Xbox One because that was what I was used to and it does more things with regards to media than the PS4 does. Graphics aren't the most important thing to me. That being said, I will almost assuredly spend more time on the PS4 because of BF4 and the OSers that I will be playing that with. I don't want to sell either. (Side note: If anyone wants to buy FIFA 14 for PS4, send me a DM. I've only popped it in the PS4 once and I'm just not a big enough soccer fan for this to get any run. I like it, just not gonna really play it. Somebody should get some play out of it at a discounted price)

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

                  Some thoughts....

I actually think the dual shock 4 is now a superior controller but the whole battery life issue is a real pain compared to just popping batteries in.

So happy I can buy games digitally day one on xbox like I did on ps3.

Smartglass support for dead rising 3 is a pretty awesome touch.

The system that spits out more exclusive games is going to get more use....the novelty of online achievements and profiles has kinda wore off for me.

Don't want to take this thread off course, but I've been extremely disappointed with the lack of 3rd party AND 1st-party support for the Wii U.
It basically collects dust between Mario releases.

I hope this is the end of Nintendo consoles and they begin to publish their software on the other consoles.

I don't think that will happen this generation.

Probably a few WiiUs away from that happening.

So, my brother who had a PS4 at launch just sold his PS4 on Craigslist for $550 to some idiot. He immediately picked up an XB1 this weekend when a Gamestop had some pre-order systems that were not claimed.

In his short time using the PS4, I did notice game's look crisper, but after using my XB1 for a few days now, I don't see such a huge difference that it impacts my decision at all. XB1 by far has the better user experience IMO. The UI is a lot more fun to play with, and I can turn on the XB1 for a host of different reasons than to just play a game, like the PS4. I do like that the PS4 has Twitch Live Streaming at launch, but soon that won't matter as XB1 will offer that after the new year. Plus, XBL is still heads above PSN IMO and will only get better as we saw last gen.

The multi-media on the XB1 can not be ignored and pushed aside as just being "For those who want more than gaming." I keep reading that the PS4 is for gamers, and the XB1 is for those wanting a MM experience. I find that wholly untrue. The XB1 does what the PS4 does, and more. Why in the world would you not want that or downplay that other than trying to just discredit the XB1.

I will most definitely be purchasing the PS4 once one of the following happens - MLB The Show comes out (as long as XB1 does not have available solution. C'mon 2K...make the MLB game as good as NBA), or Uncharted is released. Or my XB1 explodes and every replacement XB1 on the face of Earth is destroyed by Terminator.

XB1 Pros - UI, XBL, MM experience, freakin watching TV and pwning at the same time can not be beat! Kinect, surprisingly is very very good. Controller still feels the best. Games very smooth.

XB1 Cons - Size, maybe? I know some don't like that. Always on for TV. Hope that get's patched...but I don't think that's possible.

PS4 Pros - Great system for gaming. And only gaming. Great graphics.

Ps4 Cons - Controller (Subjective), No Watching TV while destroying n00bs, PSN while Improved, and getting better, it's still a good step behind XBL. It's not the XB1.

                              Just FYI.

I keep reading that the PS4 is for gamers, and the XB1 is for those wanting a MM experience. I find that wholly untrue. The XB1 does what the PS4 does, and more. Why in the world would you not want that or downplay that other than trying to just discredit the XB1.
Sure it can, that comment makes no sense to me. If someone has no interest in watching TV while playing it most certainly can be pushed aside and to top it off the consumer is paying $100 more for that ability that they might simply not care about. Why would someone not want that? Because not everyone thinks its just amazing to have a PIP effect that TV's offered 10+ years ago already. I've got no issues with people who love it and use it but to act as if its impossible for someone to simply not want to pay the extra money for a feature they wont use and they would only do it to discredit the Xbox One is a stretch.
