Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

Mgo I could be wrong totally but from what I've seen. .... the main reason is being said is because peiple have gone into the ps4 thread about how much better a multi function entertainment box it is out whatever the story is. This saturday was a prime example but besides the point who cares.

We've all seen what was offered since e3 which was plenty enough timeto decide and people made their decisions.

I don't understand the pandering to be honest. If you like said system just play it and have fun. If you want both then do that too of you want.

If you want one system over the other that's fine but don't front like you're trying to be objective when you're not and kicking up this console war crap again.

To the threads credit there are no cons really besides more exclusives dropping next year. Why can't we leave it there.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I'm thrilled with having both systems. Ps4 in my office for gaming, Xbox One in the main living area for the whole family with plenty of room for Kinect. At first I didn't like the Xbone controller, but after playing Forza a couple of hours, I love it.

Of all the forthcoming games, I believe I'm the most stoked for Witcher 3 and Titanfall.

I have only Forza for the Xbone, and while the game looks great, the boring tracks wear me out. I hope they add many new and interesting tracks.

Probably the coolest thing I've seen so far with the new systems is playing PS4 games on my Vita. To me, it's worth the price of a Vita. My wife can watch TV while I play an amazing looking game of NBA2K on the Vita. It's an absolutely phenomenal feature.

All in all, I am thrilled with the new systems. I knew the games wouldn't be great due to having to meet launch deadlines, but the 3rd party games like Madden, NBA2K, BF4, Ghosts, and Need for Speed look great. Madden is the game I have played most. It's hands down the best version of Madden ever.

I think anyone who got both systems is going to be happy they were able to afford them. Gaming is my thing. I don't hunt, golf(shoulder is ruined), or really anything else hobby-wise. So I feel pretty good about my purchases and haven't experienced buyer's remorse a single time.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

Both systems are good leaps forward for consoles.

In the past I was mostly an XBox gamer first. My XBox and 360 library has ALWAYS dwarfed my PS3 library. I always thought the XBox and 360 games looked and played better than PS3 in MOST cases.

A small caveat for me is.....I RARELY watch TV....so for me the Media Center capabilities mean very little.

From what little I've seen so far....the PS4 is now the gaming console that looks and plays better than it's counterpart XBone.

Then there is the elephant in the room that IMO totally tilts the scale in regards to gaming.
          The Show.

          Checkmate.

(but I'm sure there will be XBone exclusives that tilt the scale back a bit as well.....Titanfall will certainly be one.)

If gaming is your thing....PS4. NO DOUBT.
If you really need a Media Center and gaming is not as important. XBone.(I'm sorry...I'd be a hypocrite for deriding the PS3 versions of games available on both platforms for being behind the 360 versions and give it a pass this time around)

Out of curiosity, do you actually own both?

Yes....I bought both but they have since become donations to the Children's wing of the N.Y.C. Burn Center.

We have two each at the firehouse now...which I guess since they are house items...I technically "own".

              Why?

Was just wondering, your impressions sounded more like someone who owned a PS4 but had read about Xbox One since you mostly mentioned TV/media stuff is all. No biggie.

If the PS4 at the center doesn't have Lego Marvel, they'd probably love the demo that is out this week if it's not already. Anxious to pick that up again for one of these two consoles but just not interested at full price.

Amazon had it at 49 bucks but with the whole temporarily out of stock which has been like that for at least a week now. I traded in a couple of super old 360 games since I dont have one anymore and picked it up for the PS4 from Gamestop.

When I got it, I got an email almost instantly from Amazon saying I could get the game by Dec 3rd, but the site still said temporarily out of stock, so maybe you can check there, the price still might be low.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I have not read the previous threads, so I will give exclusively my thoughts, without the color of reading what others have said:

Overall: You are really looking at two different machines that ultimately do the exact same thing. They play video games. But, the approach they take to get to that end is entirely different. The PS4 feels like a gaming machine. The XBONE feels like a media center. When I launch my PS4, my focus is directed first and foremost to the games that I have installed. I like the ribbon design of the interface. I think it works in a very simple, elegant, and efficient manner. When I boot up my XBONE it feels like everything but the games are first and foremost. Music, Video, TV, Social Media, are what sticks out to me. I bought them both to play video games. When the PS4 is on, I am playing video games. When the XBONE is on I am trying to figure out what applications I can open that will still allow me to keep xbox music app running in the background, or learning the voice commands for my TV.

Interface. Hands down better on the PS4. I mentioned above that I like the simple nature of the PS4 interface. The XBONE interface is more clunky. I actually like the tiles. I don't like that they put an extra click to get to everything. I liked the Xbox 360 interface that let me slide from screen to screen and gave me a bit of good information on each of the screens. Now for me to get to my friends, I have to make two clicks. One into my profile, and the next onto the friends or followers. I wish they would have kept it more linear, now it seems like more of a hierarchy.

Voice Controls. Hands down better on the XBONE. They really work. And they work pretty well. I have the ability to control my TV, my 10 year old AV receiver, and my cable box all with voice controls. It is fast, mostly accurate, and very slick. PS4's voice controls are limited. And I have to say "enter standby mode" about 5 times before I get it with the right cadence. I have since given up, and just been using my controller to do the same task much more quickly.

Games: Tie. I ultimately bought the XBONE for Forza (but really Titanfall and Halo). But also looking forward to some of the PS4 exclusives coming later. I think they both play games about the same. So, I don't think this will be a huge differentiation for anyone, other than what exclusive games you are most excited about.

Controller: PS4 wins in general, XBONE better in certain situations. I thought it would take my longer to get used to the PS4 controller, but it has been pretty simple and easy. I really like everything about it. It feels right. Weight, size, and buttons are all perfect. I like the new triggers. I think this will be a good control for FPS. I LOVE the XBONE controler for Forza. The feedback that you get in the triggers as independent from the handles is really cool. I can feel when my acceleration in forza might lead to losing traction of my tires. I don't like the new LB and RB buttons. They seem hard to push, and even harder to keep pushed down (to change weapon in Dead Rising for instance).

I'm happy with both purchases. My plan is to do most of my gaming on the PS4, to play exclusive titles on the XBOX, keep testing out the novelty of the Kinect 2.0, and dabble into the media side of the XBONE.

Same here. Nobody wanted a forced camera and all that other crap they were spewing before with the extra 100 dollar price tag.

Is simple math but you have xbox fans trolling ex xbox fans/owners or whatever you wanna call it. ... even people who still own the 360 with the old kinect

That's why the whole war thing is ridiculous in the first place

It's crazy that people spend time trashing other systems and hoping they fail. If we didn't have competition then all of the features people didn't like at E3 would have been forced on us.

I have a PS4 and Xbox one and they're both awesome.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

Honestly - telling someone both systems are awesome doesn't help someone reading this thread. They know that already.

I don't get the point of this thread if you can't discuss the advantages and drawbacks. This isn't pre-school - I think guys like mgo really want to know which system you would get if to can get just one.

For me, that's not an option. I bought a PS4 to play the Show. If you're not a baseball gamer then that means nothing to you. Maybe you prefer a Sony exclusive but hey - you know that, not one of us.

If I didn't care about baseball and I wanted a system that could do more than play games, I get the Xbox One.

If I want to get the best looking multi-platform games and don't care about MS exclusives - I go PS4. Mind you, the 360 was the better multi-platform system las gen as these games were ported over to PS3 and it showed. I never bought NBA 2k on the PS3. Ugh. It's that much better on the PS4.

And you know what? Something I haven't seen anyone say is just how fantastic the XboxOne mobile app is. You can see very crisp video highlights uploaded from your friends on your phone or tablet. This is a great touch and I find myself checking out my friend's highlights when I have some free time on my iPhone.

Well....it MUST be pre-school...since you've taken it upon yourself to GRADE MY POST teach......
I was never a C student...so I think I can post coherently for myself, but thank you!

                          mestevo.....like I said....I don't do much TV watching as a rule.
When I do and I'm gaming(whether it was on my 360 or PS3....) it was usually a baseball game that I would put in the PiP screen. Been doing it for years. I can't talk to it...but I have been catching myself say "Knight turn on TV"....and my hand magically hits the remote putting on my PiP. Very old school I know....
So far as I can see though...the best use of the voice recognition is going to be the PS3 users at the house trying to turn off the XBone users mid game when we are playing BF4!

I completely agree. I know we want to avoid the sophomoric console flame war, but the opposite of that is the generic, "Both systems have strengths and weaknesses. Play one and be happy." That's just as hollow of a conversation as the fanboy chatter.

I have neither system but I have been reading you guys reviews on both systems some things don't add up.

How is the PS4 a better gaming system than the xbox one when it seems PS4 games are lower quality than Xbox one games *based on reviews*?

                              Controllers- seem equal in standard
Consoles - graphically the same from the Ign comparison clips
                              Software- don't know.

The PS4 definitely have cleaner graphics. Nothing earth shattering, but it is a the crisper system.

Software wise the XBone is better, which isn't surprising giving MS is a software company.
