Re: Pros and Cons of going to an all-digital game library

Just thought of another reason I and maybe others would switch to digital games - If they were released earlier digitally and I would like a week earlier. No idea if that is something that could even happen, but that would really have me lean towards going digital instead of physical.

Reason I thought of it was because of Dark Souls 3 releasing in Japan today, but not in North America until April 12th. So people figured out a way to purchase the Japan version on XBO, then switching back to NA region before downloading and they are getting the NA version with English. If the digital version was available to everyone today, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it instead of saving $12 bucks plus trade in value down the road if I wanted to trade it in.

Just bought another digital game... maybe I am switching sides. Although The Show is a game I will play for a while, so trade in value wouldn't be much at all.

I would have gone digital for The Show. After I'm done the value is essentially nothing.

Torn on going digital or physical with Dark Souls 3. I traded in Bloodborne after months of playing and got like $24 if I remember correctly, but I went and re-bought it when DLC came for $18. If I traded it in today I would still get $17 back... So I don't know what to do concerning Dark Souls 3.

For me it really depends upon how you plan to play it. Do you plan to play it frequently? Or perhaps less frequently but longer sessions? If I play a game a good bit but not for long chunks at a time I like digital because I can fire it up quick, play for an hour, then exit. But if I play it like all in one long session I can go either way depending upon the $$$deal$$$ I can find.

Re: Pros and Cons of going to an all-digital game library

The other night I went to play Nioh on PS4 and get that stupid "insert disc" thing. Usually I only buy digital but I was unsure about Nioh and thought I'd may want to resell it so I got the disc. So anyways, I get up, turn on the light, find the disc in my little case, its not there, oh that's right, its in my other case..ok, go get that case, turn out the light, go to put it in the PS4..nope, a disc is already in the PS4. What disc is in the PS4? Where is the damned eject button on this PS4? Oh crap, accidentally turned OFF the PS4. Turn on the light again, go back to PS4, find the power button and turn it back on. Find the eject button and eject the disc. Oh that's right, I watched a movie. Ok, put that movie in the case, then go back over and insert the disc. Turn out the light and sit down to play. No wait, the disc isn't all the way in, I didn't insert it far enough (that's what she said right?) so go back over and thankfully I don't have to turn on the light, nudge the disc, it goes in all the way. Sit down and go back in the menu and start Nioh.

As opposed to "Hey I want to play Nioh digital version!"

Scroll over to my action games folder, open folder, start Nioh.

I am planning on going disc for yearly titles that I buy and digital for the rest. I figured with the yearly I can at least get something back in order to get the newer version for cheaper.

Yeah that is a great idea but for me the problem is those are typically sports games which I usually play the most and thus want easier and fast access to play.

But I know this past year I ended up with Madden, FIFA and NHL all because of the crazy Best Buy trade in deals which allowed you to get the new game for like $13 or something.

Re: Pros and Cons of going to an all-digital game library

2016 was the year Digital Game Sales arrived.

74% of all games sold in 2016 were sold digitally.

It's convenience. Once you start using digital media you do not want to go back to discs.

Now that people are using digital media it is time for both companies, Sony and Microsoft, to come up with a system to trade, sell and gift digital titles.

Microsoft has at least offered self-service digital returns (testing) so that's a start but we need a lot more.

                      Digital Sales have arrived!

Pros and Cons of going to an all-digital game library

I've never saved games. When I get tired of them, I sell them on amazon and get the most money back as possible.

I'm used to this as I play mostly yearly titles.

(I basically rent games for $15 for 3-4
                        Months lol)

I'm to the point now where I'll have about 200 games ready to throw at Scorpio when it launches. Probably be willing to take more chances on titles with the new return policy, but outside of Madden most of my gaming will likely be on PC until Scorpio.

I used to sell them but usually by the time I'm sure I am done with them they aren't even worth bothering with trading in or selling to anyone. So because of that I'm all in on digital.

With that being said, I would like the ability to sell titles for the occasion where I buy one and its not for me but I've played it a bit. Also, gifting a game to someone else for like if I am tired of an old digital game and want to just give it to a friend.

They need to create this ecosystem for us and it needs to be done in 2017.

I do like having a digital library (part with GWG, otherwise things I buy over time). With constant backwards compatibility, there'll be a lot of older decent games I can let my kids play eventually.

Selling/gifting would rock. I'm the same way in that i'll keep a game too long to where the resale value isn't amazing. I can't beat most games in 1-2 months or anything like that anymore.

Gifting/selling won't ever happen. I could see trade in of some sort but can you imagine if some kid sells his brothers games to a friend, the uproar.
