Thanks boltman. What's a good monitor for console gaming mainly for competitive first person shooters on the ps4 that is under $200.

Well for under 200 I don't think you're looking for a 4K monitor. But there's some nice IPS panels that can be purchased for under 200.

Several BenQ/Zowie monitors from 24" to 27" at 200 or less. Very low input lag as well. You can get good prices on 1080p monitors because 4Ks are out and 4K/HDR monitors starting to come as well.

      Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendations boltman. I'll be using my monitor for console gaming and Im running the OG PS4 so I don't care much about 4k. I've been looking into the BenQ Zowie. Are they 1080p. On Amazon they don't say anything about it being 1080p or not. Also for console gaming on monitors what is the recommended refresh rate or Hz?

There's a BenQ that was made specifically for consoles. I read about it after I got my BenQ XL2720Z monitor a couple years ago. If you're looking at the one I'm thinking of, made for consoles, it will have a 60hz refresh rate (since consoles don't go above 60 fps) and very good response times. And it will be native 1080p

I am looking at this monitor right now as an upgrade to tide mover until good, affordable HDR10 monitors hit the market, which could be a year from now or later

I had this monitor for awhile then sold it as I went back to gaming on tv once upgraded tv, it's a pretty good monitor considering it doesn't do HDR, the 4k picture is good, I think it only does 30 fps on 4k through hdmi though, I could be wrong and confusing it with another monitor. It's a good place holder though as you wait to upgrade tv, that's pretty much what I did with it

It looks like this one does 60hz, fortunately. 30hz would be a deal breaker for me.

It features HDMI 2.0 so it supports 4K at 60hz.

I got a similar one last week because it was $100 off at $399:

Works well for me, really sold me on 4k gaming even though I've had a 4k tv for a few years. The problem with the tv is I only have an xbox one s, so while movies look great, games are only upscaled. 4k on this monitor with my PC really looks great (battlefront looked great, forza horizon 3 was AMAZING, and even with a gtx 1070 I was able to get around 45 fps.)

I will say though, and this may just be a side affect of 4k, it took some tinkering with the settings to get an xbox one s to recognize the 4k. Had to remove all the devices in my complex desk setup and still had to tinker once directly connected, but it all worked out in the end.

The colors are nice? Seems to be pretty well reviewed

I did read a review that said he had to enable a setting on the monitor before his PS4 Pro would recognize it as 4k capable

yeah in the picture settings there is an "hdmi ultra hd deep color". There is also a "super resolution+", I am not entirely sure what that does (I see no difference on the pc between off/low/med/high) but the xbox needed that on as well.

Yep the colors are great, better than my other ips monitors too.

                            I'm going for it.

Pretty good price for a nice upgrade from 1080p TN panel to a 4k IPS. I've read a bunch of reviews. Sounds like the panel is ghosting-free and superb input lag performance when set up properly

Almost identical to mine, I think it's a great placeholder.

Edit: I see SBauer already chimed in, I have the 68 that he has based on his endorsement. It's awesome and no complaints so far. The 68 is a bit more than the 58 but I always see the 68 from 499 to 399 (on sale often at Best Buy etc). If you can find the one we have on sale to for it, if not the 58 seems just about the same minus a few minor differences.

ASUS is releasing the ROG Swift PQ27UQ later this year, which will be able to do 4K and 144Hz with HDR and G-Sync. It will probably run up around $1500 if we're lucky, though is only going to be 27". The Acer Predator XB272-HDR will look to have very similar features. These are IPS panels, which have slightly raised black levels, but will be FALD. The LG is 60Hz and has FreeSync (less tearing, more ghosting), but is 32" in size. It too will be an IPS panel.

Next year should provide cheaper alternatives, or maybe these will be available around Black Friday. But when Samsung comes around into this market, I'm sure they'll be going for VA panels (better blacks/contrast ratio), but they are starting off with 2K resolution screens. I'm not sure what I want to dive into, but I'm definitely looking at 4K HDR monitors. Not investing in a new television for a while. I just don't know if right now is the time.
I know these posts were in The Show 4K/HDR thread but they seemed right at home in here so I quoted them.

When I caved and bought the LG 27UD68 I knew it was going to be Placeholder till the 4K HDR monitors came around.

I think Blzer has the right idea about waiting till Black Friday before jumping on any of them 1K+ priced HDR monitors.

                                On another note..

I didn't care too much for the stand on my LG so I was glad to see that my BenQ stand (way more adjustable) mounted with 4 screws right to my LG monitor.
