I am confused, as far as the HDR update coming to all PS4's, does this mean that all the games will show in HDR on an HDR TV because of the update, or just games that developers make to support HDR.

Also Kinda Strange I can't Pre Order the new Platium Headset and New Controller yet Gamestop.com nor Amazon.com have em listed in there database yet..

      As does no website

I also want to get the PS4 Slim to add to move living room and move my current ps4 to the bedroom to reduce rare and tear

But won't be getting it till likely November or December

Anyone know if the Slim will come with the new Controller? And it's gonna be hard to tell the new controllers apart how will I know to buy the right one?

Anyway I'm looking forward to getting these 3 things by end of year!

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread

I'm surprised how many people don't care about the quality of streaming video on here. There is a time and place where streaming fits the bill but if you are watching Blu-Ray on large format screen vs. streaming version of same content there is a huge difference in the quality. Add in the Dolby and DTS features on disk and the experience is far and above streaming.

Don't get me wrong, I stream a ton of Netflix and such and I see the quality isn't as good but I can live with that for some stuff. But when I want the theatre experience at home I have to roll with physical media for that.

Even though it is not a deal breaker to not have a 4k UHD drive, I find it disappointing that our collective generation is "ok" with just "ok" streaming for everything. I want the best gaming experience and the best movie experience and I guess I'll have to use a different device for the movie part.

To piggyback on this UHD conversation I'd like to add that I would prefer if PS4 PRO would actually increase the performance of 1080P games where 60fps is the norm with all the bells and whistles and lighting effects rather than have 4K and have a lower framerate and less lighting and atmospheric effects. Just my opinion.

I own both consoles (and will likely will own Scorpio) so I come into this with no biases.

The PS4 Pro is perfect for me. I own a 4k TV but I have no interest in buying 4k Blurays. I went all digital with my movie collection a few years ago and it was a great decision.

Most of my 4k content comes from Netflix and Youtube and with the Pro, I'll no longer have to deal with the buggy smart TV apps that I currently have to use to get 4k content.

Its a Day 1 buy for me.

It again just comes down to... $100 more for 4K and no UHD (both of which the S offers), or the same price to have neither options (both of which the S offers).

Even as a Sony leaning consumer, if someone were looking to finally buy their first console today and couldn't decide between the Xbox One S and the PS4 Slim, I'd have a hard time not recommending the MS product. At this point it's the better value. Period.
Well I for one will take PS4 PRO over XB SLim all day every day. If you are a movie enthusiasts with a new pricey 4K HDR tv and a casual gamer I will take the XB Slim but for a gamer the PRO is superior in ever way except the lack of UHD

The firmware will make the PS4 an HDR capable machine but the devs of the game have to implement the HDR codec on their games in order for it to kick in natively with the ps4.

Not all games will have HDR but more and more will until it becomes standard

Does anyone know when we can pre-order the vertical stand? I need to get it for the Pro and when I got my stand for the PS4 it was a bit of a hassle since it was sold out everywhere.

It's definitely a good discussion going on in here. I think EG has been right on about a number of things.

I pre-ordered my Pro yesterday, and I had planned in going in next week to buy PS4 Slim, but honestly I feel they hit a home run with the Pro pricing, and really missed with the Slim pricing. 300 bucks gets you much more, IMO, with the Xbox S.

Honestly, as much as it pains me, I may just have to be a grown up and be patient an wait until Nov 10 to own a console again.

I have no idea when we can pre-order the stand, the new camera, or the new headset. I don't even know the concrete release date for those items.

                  Hopefully we find out soon

They would definitely release by November 10th right? I mean they wouldn't release these things a few weeks or so after the Pro has been released right?

When I was looking at the Platinum Headset I thought I saw a mention "out this Holidays" so I dunno if that means Nov or Dec

The Slim is taking over as the standard PS4 moving forward.

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread

The biggest problem with relying on streaming large-format media is the plethora of bandwidth issues associated with it. This is why physical media is still important. The internet speed required to stream 4K content is not universally available. Even in America this sort of internet is both expensive and of limited availability. Not to mention you have some providers moving towards data caps/throttling and unreliable connections that will downgrade visual integrity or outright prevent you from streaming in the first place.

Now what happens when we move to 8k and beyond? Granted this is future-casting, but do we think networks will catch up by then? Heck, television (cable providers) has barely even caught up to HD much less 4K. Not only is all content still offered in SD formats, but you need to pay extra for HD and, depending on your provider, only ~50-80% of channels may actually be offered in HD. AFAIK there are no 4K channels. This, too, at least partially comes down to bandwidth.

In theory streaming is a wonderful idea. I think reality prevents streaming from being the be-all end-all solution as of this date. I still buy physical media, and retailers still carry a decent amount of weight so as to prevent the phasing out of all physical media for the near-future. I can't envision digital streaming being the primary method of delivery until network technology has caught up. There are other ancillary benefits to owning the physical disc, as well, but those are largely self-evident.

Someone had mentioned earlier that dvd sales for film have declined drastically in recent years. I guess you can say it's just a matter of time.

Also, If anyone has questions regarding what's the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz if you're planning on using WiFi for your gaming/video streaming between the 2 PS4s? Netgear has this nice little write-up on the advantages and disadvantages.

This is true and hardly surprising. As streaming grows in popularity and tech improves, less people will purchase physical media. That and it is likely cheaper for production purposes, thus the more attractive option, though I don't know the accurate cost breakdown. Most if not all of those costs are probably deferred to the company providing the streaming service.

Instead of 'primary' I should have written 'sole' method of delivery. I believe physical media will be around for people who want and/or need it. To me we aren't in a place to rely strictly on streaming services.
