Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Those charts make no sense. The first one says 2012 was $6 billion in revenue for DVDs and the 2nd one says a little over $2 billion in sales. Unless I'm missing something that doesn't add up.

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
I haven't done a good job explaining my dilemma.
Basically I am just impatient, most of my friends play PS4, I miss the party chat fun times, and I have a decent library of games on my PS4 as well.
I need to decide if I feel confident I can sell the Slim for 200 or more when the Pro comes out.
Anyway. Who knows."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Revenues are anything that generates dollars taken in....examples are rentals, sales, anything else used to generate earnings.
Sales are per units sold.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Okay, I gotcha now. I thought you had Xbox One before and was just waiting to get it back but was waiting to see the price/release date of the slim/pro before doing so. On the bright side, you only have two months to go and if The Last Guardian is your next main game, you'll only have a two week wait after that which isn't a big deal.I haven't done a good job explaining my dilemma.

I don't buy that only 10% care about a 4k bluray drive. No way it has got to be much higher. Sony messed up big time with that. I don't know if that is true that people don't buy disk basic movies much any more because I know when it comes to games 80% of sales are still disk and only 20% are digital. I don't see why movies would be much different. A lot of people still don't have a fast internet and downloading movies can take a long time.Comment

Might not get $200 at GameStop or a different store but I'm pretty confident you could sell a slightly used for 1.5 months PS4 slim for $200 on Craigslist or something.I haven't done a good job explaining my dilemma.

Vocal minority. UHD discs aren't selling at all. Sure, there's people buying them, but nothing like when blu ray when it launched.

The launch numbers for the UHD discs were better than standard blu-ray launch, the UHD discs sold double:

I'm confused how you can know Netflix exists and how big it is and make statements like this.I don't buy that only 10% care about a 4k bluray drive. No way it has got to be much higher. Movies and games are clearly different, as are music and games, where very few physical copies are being sold. Gaming is the last thing holding on and it's because the files are just way bigger.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
A lot of the people that watch streaming movies don't care about the picture quality, and those are probably also the same people that still buy DVDs. But I'm willing the bet if somebody paid money to get a 4K TV, they do care about the picture quality, and they want 4K content. You need really good internet service to stream 4K content, and even then, the picture quality isn't the same as disc. That type of internet service isn't widely available. There's definitely a market for 4K Blu-ray.I'm confused how you can know Netflix exists and how big it is and make statements like this.

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Maybe that was true when 4K Tvs were 5 grand, but a year from now anyone buying a new TV will just be getting a 4K one, then it becomes the norm. When everyone has a 4K TV, who will win out? The enthusiasts or the majority?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

To be fair though, Blu-ray was in a format war with HD-DVD at the beginning. Some people were buying that instead. The launch numbers for the UHD discs were better than standard blu-ray launch, the UHD discs sold double:

Blu-ray really hit its stride when The Dark Knight came out in December of 2008. I don't know what BD will make UHD the big seller. Perhaps the next Avatar?Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Well because there were more 1080p sets in the wild when blu ray was out then 4K tvs out now
And remember how expensive blu ray players were
Today unless you get the xbox slim you are paying 400 to 500 just for a dedicated 4K UHD player. As more people get into 4K displays which is growing every day the UHD players will drop in price and movie purchasing will go up.
No streaming services in 4K will ever come close to the 4K UHD player quality. If you want to know what your 4K tv does it can only be shown by a 4K UHD player.Comment
