Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

Comparing Switch to PS4 and Xbone is tricky for me. Not sure I view it in the same "bracket" as I play it mostly portably and that is something Xbone and PS4 just don't offer.

So as far as the price tag, I guess I can see both sides of the coin

Sony barely pushes PS4 Pro. Scorpio will definitely be pushed though by Microsoft.
I said this before as well. I have no issue with paying $300 for it but many people will because they will compare it to Xbox and PS4. Nintendo and many of their fans say that the Nintendo Switch is not competing with the Xbox One and PS4 but they are deluding themselves. It's a next-gen console that is directly competing with those two systems. Yes of course it has some things it does better and some things worse but the same is true of PS4 versus Xbox.

If Nintendo refuses to acknowledge this fact and act upon it then this system is doomed to fail. We all may love it and play it to death but the Wii U was loved too by many and it was a failure because Nintendo didn't address its inadequacies.

They are not comparable at all. Which makes the switch price tag a little steep/confusing for people that do not care about the portability. When I found out concrete details about switch as far as pricing, launch lineup and power that's when I decided to just go pick up a PS4 pro. I had an extra Xbox one that I was planning on trading in towards the switch.

Not that I don't care about portability at all. I see the appeal. I pretty much just only use it on airplane flights so my 3ds will suffice. Plus when you factor in I could get Zelda on Wii U and horizon and the show were coming up....no brainer for me.

No offense but it has been well established how you two feel. What's the point of repeating your stance over and over again? I respect both your opinions, but posting the same beefs all the time does nothing but derail the thread.

I agree 100% with you in regards to the Switch obviously having the mobility factor in it's favor but everything else, no way. Visually, not even close. Online capabilities, not even close, far bigger and better library, easily. Outside of Zelda which is the only reason the Switch is sold out, is there a single game worth buying the Switch for right now? I can easily name a top twenty for PS4 and Xbox One. And in regards to the mobility, that's awesome but once you start playing games in 4K with HDR, 720P on a small screen with three hours of battery life isn't going to cut it.

And knowing your posting history, I already know you would be bashing them for it like I said above. You and others would be complaining it wasn't Zelda. Nintendo can't win there. It's a $50 game designed for 2 players. Buy it or don't. NintendoLand was better multiplayer but could be solo and was hated as a pack in. Because, the best stuff was multiplayer and Nintendo took it out for awhile (later was thrown in again with Mario Kart or Splatoon bundles because they couldn't give it away) which is the more likely scenario in a few years for 1-2 Switch but not at launch.
I'm bashing them because it makes no sense NOT to pack in 12 Switch. Just look at their presentation. It was ALL focused on what is basically couch co-op and that's exactly what 12 Switch is perfect for. I don't care about the game either way and im sure as hell am not buying it. I just think that it would have been an excellent move to get even more people interested in the Switch like Wii Sports did for the Wii. To me, packing it in would have been the smarter business move especially long term because it shows off the system in a fun couch co-op way. Plus being able to remove the tablet and use it standing up with the two joycons as an individual controller for each player would have been a smart move.

Forget Wii U. It was a horrible disaster. Wii Sports is the comparison. Nintendo is banking on Switch hitting like Wii did. 12 Switch would have been to Switch what Wii Sports was to Wii which is what made Wii sell over 100M consoles. 12 Switch is the only game that I would have packed in with the Switch at launch because it's a game that like Wii Sports will get the casual consumer possibly interested in buying the console which is what it's all about. Selling the console and getting it in the consumer's home.

I bash Nintendo because they clearly rushed out the console just so it can make their fiscal year look better. The Switch clearly has defects with it and while that percentage is small, with social media nowadays, that crap spreads like wildfire. I bash Nintendo because they clearly didn't have a long term plan in place. I bash Nintendo because I want them to succeed but not just for a year or two. I want them to succeed in the long term.

Does Nintendo have an innovative and unique console? Absolutely. But they clearly rushed it all as opposed to taking their time. No online or apps at launch and I don't care about either but the majority do and no virtual console at launch which is very disappointing. Nintendo should have had all this basic stuff ready to go at launch and they're not even close.

I don't own a Switch yet but I do own the Pro controller and was going to buy the Switch on launch day but when I went to pay for it, it was removed from my Best Buy cart and sold out. I have the gift cards ready and just waiting until it gets restocked which looks like mid April at the earliest. I'm buying it either way but the long wait will only turn off consumers as they will just spend their money elsewhere.

Listen, I agree 100%, I just wanna say, I loved the Vita when it first came out and wished it really excelled, but it didn't like many wanted. At launch the Vita was $249.

The switch is that much better then the Vita was and is, and it comes with the Joy-cons and stand and the extra controller you hook up your joy-cons too also. For $300 the price is perfect IMO. I mean come guys, what do you want it to be $100. The system is well worth more then that 2x.

Honest I'm was never a HUGE , HUGE Nintendo fan like some are, this system is great!! If you knew me on a personal level me saying this about Nintendo is huge. I can't express how much I love this system so far. The key will be games. Ill be patient.

You could buy a 599 bundle at Gamestop as of yesterday and you were guaranteed a switch by the 16th. It seems that deal is greyed out in the app now though.

Agree. If you're in the video game hardware business and Nintendo obviously is, your competition is Sony and Microsoft whether Nintendo themselves or anyone else wants to admit or not. The reason why Nintendo says that they aren't competing with Sony and Microsoft is because they know, overall, they simply can't and most likely, never will.

To an actual consumer walking into the store to buy a game console, it's a three way competition and no matter what anyone says, that's not going to change how the average general consumer will look at it when in the store.

EG, Do you think eventually you'll be able to use your digital purchases on multiple Switch systems?

I'd just worry that eventually I want to upgrade, or my son needs his own (and I have twin 6 month old girls, but they're a bit away lol). I know right now the SD card is locked with that system only, and no way to copy data off one system to another (like playing your save of Zelda on another Switch).

Is this something that could come with the next year as they fix the online aspects too? Just seems like a horrible way to do digital. I've lost games on the Wii in the past and it's something that'd make me hesitant to go digital.

For me Honestly, It's MOBILITY factor, I'm all bout mobile gaming. I still have yet to even take the dock out of the box, will do this weekend. I think the system is very well made. The graphics are great IMO.

The only I can say I dislike is the the library at the moment, that's all. And that shouldn't really be a dislike cause the system just came out. Otherwise I love this system.

At the same time? Ala XB1/PS4? No I don't. I expect to be buying 2-3 copies of games. Is what it is. Don't love that at all though.

But copying saves or games to a new system? No question and probably by this summer.

I lost games from Wii to WiiU but Nintendo recovered them all for me.
