Yes that's what they say but its nonsense. The game costs them zero to pack in. One could argue they didn't want to lose money from people not buying the game, sure, but on the flip side one could also argue they may lose more money from people simply not buying the system who were on the fence because it has no pack-in game.

So at $350 people would buy the console simply because it has a "free" game?

How does including a game not cost them anything?

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

This thought just entered my head after reading an article on Kotaku: Nintendo is now in the tablet business as their console. Hear me out on this...

Consider how technology in the mobile sector has progressed over the lifespan of a typical console generation (4-5 years). Compare a tablet from 4-5 years ago to today, compare SD card storage and price from 4-5 years ago to today. In both cases, the form factor stays the same, but specs increase dramatically for the price.

What I'm getting at is this: In 2021 or 2022, Nintendo announces the Switch 2 Switcheroo. Same form factor, much more insane guts. Games come in same form factor, but can store much more on a card. They announce two editions: a normal system with all the stuff you'd normally get (controllers, AC Adapter, etc.) and then just a Core system of just the tablet. You swap out the old 'guts' for new guts. Joy-cons slide right on. Old games still play. Account information and digital games transfer (one can dream, right?). Plug and Play upgrade.

I know it's just a dream, but could be a distinct possibility.

No, at $299 a pack-in game will, with some people, get them to pull the trigger if they are on the fence. If a console maker cannot, or chooses not to, lower the price of the main console, then a pack-in game is a way to greatly increase perceived value to potential buyers.

Modular design of this nature has never been accepted or made successful by the public. I read somewhere on a gaming site that if Nintendo cannot pull off a modular type design with the Switch then it will prove once and for all that it never will work.

They're intentionally perpetually behind a few generations of technology. Their tablet doesn't even have a browser, and is 720p. Just like the Wii U tablet being relatively low resolution and no multi-touch. In 2021 they'll release something closer to Kindle Fires released a few years ago at their current pace with the guts of an Xbox One as the PS5 hits it's stride and MS releases the followup to Scorpio.

Joycons and whatnot I do expect to be the next Wii Remote, they'll be used for a couple generations. Even if they don't latch on to the next console.

If the Switch fails, as the Wii U failed, I think Nintendo will be done with hardware and start into licensing out their IPs ala Sega with their failure of Dreamcast and then licensing out of Sonic.

I haven't seen anything but I imagine it would. The 3ds has one and I know the Wii had one. Don't know if the Wii U had one.

People have said there's no browser and nobody's been corrected about it. It's certainly not a core OS option as it's not in the base UI.

Doesn't mean it won't be available at some point as an app though, so hard to say. Nothing official. A number of consoles including Nintendo's didn't have it at launch, and were added later. Many of those consoles were also hacked thanks in part to the browser, so there's reason to not have it.

They expect you to use an app on your phone to navigate their online service while using the console, wouldn't be a reach then to expect you to do the same if you wanted general access to the internet also.

Have to agree no pack in game really hurts people that are on the fence to buy it maybe a bit after launch

After taxes, warranty, a game, extra controller if you want one you're looking at spending $500 at a minimum easy

Console should have been $250 then maybe for the $300 get a little something extra like a game

Thinking about it more and trying to understand both sides i'll say this

Nintendo will make a BIG game available for the switch every two months.
Now what constitutes a big game is going to be left to Nintendo's interpretation of what they consoder a "Big" title of course.

I'm thinking this year it could be this:

                            Zelda March 3rd
                            2 months....
Mario kart 8 Deluxe April 28th
                            2 months....
                            Splatoon 2 July
                            2 months...
Fire emblem warriors OR Xenoblade Chronicles 2(hoping for Xenoblade Chronicles 2)September
                            2 months...
                            Super Mario Odyssey November

To them thats 5 titles a year

Xbox One S and PS4 Slim can be had for about $250 with deals though, just about anywhere.

Now granted, so will the Nintendo Switch at some point as well, but for now people are going to be faced with a $299 Nintendo Switch vs a cheaper Xbox One S with a 4K player and a PS4 slim.

Pretty brutal choice there if you're in Nintendos shoes.
