"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
Ah, this will surely be one of the bigger disappointment of the week for some.
Nintendo says Switch won’t replace the 3DS
"In our view, the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Switch are going to live side-by-side," Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told Wired in a recent interview. "They’re going to coexist just fine. We’ve done this before, managing two different systems."
Appears they may be passing at using the Switch as an opportunity to merge their console and handheld business. At least for now. We'll see if traditionally mobile games make their way to the Switch or not.
This time, however, Fils-Aime told Wired that "3DS has a long life in front of it," and that Nintendo sees the Switch as "at its heart, it’s a home console that you can take with you on the go." That suggests the 3DS will continue to be the place Nintendo funnels games designed to be played portably, while the Switch gets games more tailored to the TV experience.
Perhaps there's just preserving that product line until Switch establishes itself before pivoting people to it as a single console solution.Comment

Heres my new take on this all.
Nintendo saw that the gaming market has ALOT of open world games. So what do they do? They make Zelda and Mario open World.
Nintendo sees that games like Overwatch and first person shooters are competitive so they make Splatoon 2.
here are my predictions. watch Nintendo make their ips into what the market is succeeding at.
The Next Metroid will be like Destiny
Animal crossing will be a mobile only game.
The Next mario platformer will be on 3ds.
Starfox will be like Elite dangerous etc
Other ips like Kid icarus will also be open world.
So again i srsly think their going to be putting their ips into what is succeeding in the market as a game.Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
I'm reading negativity from most gaming sites. That stems from lack of games at launch first, price second and the outrageously priced peripherals last.
Yes people are excited about the hardware and it being a new Nintendo system but from most major sites I'm reading they are realizing that is a hardcore reaction and the way Nintendo is marketing this does not bode well for its success to the mass market.
I think it speaks volumes that I know of one HUGE Nintendo fan who was so excited for it and now he is not buying it day one, he says he will wait until Mario and other games come out and the price lowers.
Sadly, if that is a widely accepted posture then this thing will be hard pressed to be a success if it comes out of the game with even some of their hardcore fans taking a 'wait and see' stance.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

I only skim Kotaku and Polygon on a regular basis, but both of them seem to be excited and mostly positive.

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
Like ODogg, I've seen more negative than positive reactions for the most part. And to be honest, it already has that "Wii U" feel to it with the lack of great launch titles. Lucky for Nintendo, there will be a lot of people who didn't get a Wii U buy the Switch for Zelda: BotW, MK8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2. I think we'll know quite a bit about the future after those 3 titles are released.
If I would've gotten a Wii U, there's no way I'd get a Switch until 2018 or so at the earliest. My choice to buy is about 99% because I didn't get a Wii U, and this thing is bringing several of the big Wii U titles over along with at least early support from third parties.
I think it will sell more units than the Wii U did, but that's really not going out on a big limb. That being said, it won't come anywhere near the totals put up by PS4. But that's probably not going out on a big limb either. Haha
I'm very excited about it obviously, or I wouldn't have pre-ordered. But I fully understand people having a negative feel about it right now. I just hope Nintendo comes through this time and gives us a load of games moving forward.
There's tons of potential in games like Luigi's Mansion 3, a Metroid revival, 3D Donkey Kong, etc. Now let's hope they make these happen.Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
I am one that didn't own a Wii U and didn't get to play many of the good titles it had .... So I'm really excited to play this new system
Of course I have played it at a friends house and such but never really go to sit down and play it play it.
I just hope it gets much more support than the Wii U got

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
Man why isn't Switch 1-2 not a pack in game?
Who is gonna pay $50 for this demo game that shows pretty much what the console can do?
Seems like a bad move by Nintendo. Would be a perfect game to include in buying the console. Heck I would pay maybe $5-$10 but $50? The longitivtiy couldn't be very good.....
Just felt like ranting lol

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
Overpriced, underpowered, rushed, no third party support, half decade old ports, horrible launch lineup, 12 Switch costing $50 when it should be packed in ala Wii Sports in order to show off the system, overpriced accessories, same or lower priced consoles from the competition which have way more to offer in every single aspect, horrible motion controls that were nothing but a fluke, no Ethernet port, and so much more.
I'm sorry if im being a downer but that's because im down, saddened and depressed because no one wanted to get back into Nintendo more than me. It's been so ******* long since I owned a Nintendo console that I enjoyed (Gamecube) but it's the same crap as the last two gens. Nintendo never learns. They simply keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again and it just puts me in a negative mood because for once in a very long time, I want to be positive and happy and look forward to owning a Nintendo console and they couldn't even do that. Imagine if I wasn't positive going into the presentation, oh man. Forget about it. LOL.Comment

She didn't find it as amusing as me

No more ranting by me. Instead, I'll just let Jim Sterling do it for me. I would embed the video but there's profanity in it so I'll just post the link.

Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
EA, Ubisoft and 2k all supported the Wii U at launch. In fact they all had launch games. Hopefully all three stick around this time instead of just UbisoftComment

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
I was hyped, excited and looking forward to it but during and after that presentation, all of that is deflated and non-existent. Really thought that Nintendo would have learned from the Wii U and that there was no chance they could screw up such an original, unique and innovative concept but yet, they did in so many ways. Zelda, Mario, etc. will be great but none of it matter if the console is dead in two years.
