Perhaps but watching a walkthrough on Breath of the Wild, I haven't seen anything that I haven't already done the last two generations whether it be hack and slash gameplay, exploration, puzzles, scavenging, cooking, mini map, towers, etc. Outside of the visual art style, it will still be just another open world adventure game. With that said, I am looking forward to getting lost in the world of Hyrule. As for past games, my friend says that Ocarina of Time is still the best Zelda game and if it hasn't been surpassed yet twenty years later, then it most likely never will be which is fine but that also tells me that the reason for that is that unlike back then, what's being done now has already been done hundreds if not thousands of times. But we'll see.
I'm aware that the Bravely Default team is behind POT which is why im interested in it. Sony is hitting every aspect more than the other two but they have room for improvement as well. I just think that if Nintendo was to stop trying all this gimmicky crap and just focus on the hardware and software plus be willing to take a loss on the hardware, they would be much better off in the future.
If Switch fails then it will be time for Nintendo to seriously consider going third party simply because their next console would just be another gimmick based system and as has been proven time and time again, gimmicks don't work.
Gamecube was more powerful than PS2 but not sure about the original Xbox. Nintendo might have had the power advantage over Sony but their controller was a gimmick and the worst controller I have ever used to play a game period. The mini discs as opposed to a DVD was a huge mistake as it was just another gimmick and way for Nintendo to make extra money by selling those discs to third parties.
I want to see Nintendo do EVERYTHING that Sony and Microsoft do every gen and then see how they do. I truly have no doubt that if Nintendo stopped being a toy company and started being a video game console manufacturer company that with their IP catalog and everything else added in that they would easily be number one in this industry.
Refusing to sell hardware at a loss is beyond stubborn, stupid, idiotic, moronic and obsolete. The hardware is not what you make money on. It's the software and online subs that you make money on. In my opinion, it's all about getting the console into people's homes as easily and cheap as possible. The software will eventually allow you to break even and then make profit but can't do that if the console doesn't sell and get into people's homes.
At $300, I think the Switch will sell probably around 6m between launch and September with a boost once Mario releases but the last three months of 2017 will belong to Sony and Microsoft as three out of the four consoles for those two companies will be equal or cheaper than Switch and that will kill Nintendo which is why they're clearly rushing the console out instead of waiting. Outside of Zelda, games aren't ready for the Switch and majority of developers just recently received their dev kits.
Nintendo should have waited and also, should have cancelled the Wii U version of Zelda because it gives no incentive to buy a Switch if you already own a Wii U. Add in the expensive accessories and non-existent launch lineup outside of Zelda which im sure was finished a while ago but was held back until Switch was revealed and dated.
With that said, if pre-orders open up again for Switch, I'll definitely pre-order one but only if it's with the grey joy cons and if I can also get the Pro controller because im not using those small joy cons to play Zelda. UGH.
