Re: E3 2017 - Microsoft Discussion Thread
People want MS to invest in their first party studios (new IP's, etc), which we can all agree on...
One thing I don't understand is, why would MS invest in Beam/Mixer? On average, the biggest gaming channel has anywhere from 500-800 viewers.
Will be interesting to see where Mixer stands 12 months from now but why put your money on a platform when Twitch/Amazon continues to dominate?

Re: E3 2017 - Microsoft Discussion Thread
I was really disappointed in how it looked. I guess on the bright side that's probably actually how it really will look. And with that point made, it's probably going to be a really, really fun game too.Mestevo.....
What did you think of State of Decay 2? Not going to lie, I was expecting more. Game looks almost exactly as the original. The world looks good but not great and I love the survival, base building, resource gathering, etc. but the character models and zombie models all look the same and didn't blow me away. It's still a day one purchase but man, I was expecting much more.
I still think Days Gone looks superior to it though.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: E3 2017 - Microsoft Discussion Thread
I wasn't happy after Microsoft's press conference yesterday so I didn't bother commenting on it but since im in a happier mood, below is my own personal opinion of their press conference. And yes, this will be a VERY LONG POST. LOL.
- Literally hate the Xbox One X name. Spencer said that it would have been hard to get Xbox One Scorpio trademarked. I don't see how. Considering how much money that Microsoft has put into Scorpio (yes, im calling it Scorpio), would a few more million or whatever it would cost to get that name really make a difference? Plus, Scorpio just sounds good and the release date is in the month of the Scorpio sign and Scorpio is just one hell of a name. X and S sound the same and will confuse people guaranteed. Even more so, looking at the Battlefield 1 Xbox One Slim bundle, it doesn't have the "S" anywhere on the box. It just says Xbox One. I wonder if the "X" packaging will be the same? To me, Microsoft needed to truly make this stand out and they didn't despite having a year of Scorpio buildup and the opportunity to do so. I know this is a stupid complaint but "X"? Seriously? Just a turn off from something that sounded awesome and gets you hyped plus a console "codename" has never been used in retail. That would have been news worthy in of itself. I will say this though - the Scorpio looks sweet as hell and how they got it to be slightly smaller than the slim amazes me as I was expecting it to be bigger than the slim but smaller than the original base Xbox One. Love the tech in the console. Just wish they would have gone all out for the Scorpio name. Just picture - "XBOX ONE" with "SCORPIO" underneath and a pic of the console on the box. Oh man. Just picturing it disappoints me since it's not happening.
- The price. Sorry but while Scorpio is more powerful than PS4 Pro, coming in at $500 is a mistake in my opinion. Not only has it turned me off personally but $500 four years ago was a huge mistake and Microsoft repeating it makes me dumbfounded. I just don't get it. People will say that they don't want to lose money and that's understandable except for one small detail - if less people buy it because of the price, they won't sell as much which in turn leads them to losing money on it anyway. Consoles/hardware is all about one thing. Getting it into as many homes as possible and let the software, etc. make up the loss and eventually turn into profits. $400 would have been perfect and also would have forced Sony to lower the price of the Pro. Sony doesn't have to do anything and to be perfectly honest, if they bundle Horizon in with the Pro for the fall/holiday season, let's be honest, it blows away any game on Scorpio including all of their current exclusives. The Xbox One slim could have then been reduced to $200 for those who don't want to spend the extra money or own/will own an 4KTV anytime soon. Also, at $400, this would have allowed Microsoft to have bundles at $500 which I thought for sure was a guarantee for Shadow of War and ACO but since the base is $500, I can see why they won't happen or that they just didn't announce them yet.
- The lack of games from Microsoft. Sorry but this is sad and pathetic. I was extremely happy going into E3 knowing that Halo and Gears weren't going to be even mentioned because it gave them the opportunity to showcase what else they have. Sadly, that opportunity was wasted. Crackdown 3 was a huge disappointment for me as I was fully expecting it to look realistic as hell and come out showcasing the Scorpio. Instead, it's a cel shaded game which while looking cool is not what I was expecting or hoping. I never played the previous two games but I was fully hyped to see all the destruction and realistic aspect of the game. Instead, to me, it fell flat. To make matters worse, all the destruction is ONLY in the multi-player component. WTF is that? Battlefield 1 can awesome destruction but Crackdown 3 on Scorpio can't? The entire concept and idea of just blowing crap up and seeing all the destruction was a huge "oh wow, awesome" moment a few years ago but now, it's like meh because you can't get that off-line and the game is cel shaded. Like WTF?
State of Decay 2 world looks good but my goodness, the character models, animations and zombies all look exactly the same as the original game. Maybe slightly better but come on. I loved the original game on Xbox 360 but I was expecting a lot more from Undead Labs. They are supposed to have a bigger budget and the game is supposed to be a $60 retail game but im sorry, Days Gone is going to crush this game which is sad because SOD2 should be one hell of a good looking game on Scorpio.
These two games brings me to my biggest complaint. Neither one truly showcases the power of Scorpio. If anything, they make Scorpio look weak. Microsoft needed to truly wow people here and as usual for the last few years, they simply disappoint. It's sad when the biggest cheer is for original Xbox compatibility and Crimson Skies. I mean come on. And my expectations aren't even high. They're more in the middle and Microsoft can't even meet those expectations.
Crackdown 3 is a Scorpio launch title which is great but SOD2 is a Spring 2018 release which sucks because I was expecting it this October but I will admit that after Bethesda's conference last night, im happy that it's Spring 2018. Just want the game to do better than the original game and depending on what else is released around it, im definitely concerned. Hopefully, they release it in a slow month which is what they should do.
Next game up is Sea of Thieves. I personally have no interest in this game since it's a first person MMORPG type game. Not for me. However, I came away more impressed with SOT than I did SOD2 and CD3. It looks very good and actually seems like a lot of fun to play. 2018 is a disappointment but because of the type of game it is, Rare should be given as much time as they need. Honestly, a beta/demo in early 2018 and full release in mid July 2018 would be great as the vibe of the game is a perfect fit for summer in my opinion.
Next is Forza Motorsport 7. Best looking Microsoft published game for Scorpio period. I don't care about Motorsport but Turn 10 deliver every time so im sure that those who love this franchise will not be disappointed. My only complaint is that Motorsport should NOT be overshadowing or outdoing SOD2 and CD3 in regards to fully utilizing the power of Scorpio.
- Moving on somewhat. All the Indies. I feel like im back watching Sony's 2014 press conference. Outside of Ori 2, I don't really care about any of the games shown. None of them interest me whatsoever. Not bashing any of them. Just not into them. And the one game I am interested in - BELOW - was a no show.
- Here's the WORSE part. Microsoft's own first party published games were CLEARLY outdone by multi-platform games. Sorry but this should NOT happen. Come on Microsoft. Metro Exodus, Assassin's Creed Origins, Shadow of War and Anthem all completely blow away every single Microsoft first party game and all look great on Scorpio. Just one problem, I can play them on PS4 Pro and granted, the games won't look as good on the Pro as they will on Scorpio but are they worth a $500 investment. And the Xbox One Slim trade in value has tanked to $100 at GameStop. May increase come the Fall for trade in deals to upgrade towards Scorpio but damn, did that drop fast.
- Going into this year's E3 for Microsoft, I was truly expecting them to sell me on Scorpio. I know a lot of people here think I hate Microsoft and whatnot but seriously, at times, my friend thinks im a Microsoft fanboy or even a secret paid employee because I try so hard to defend them and make them look good and put them in a positive light but it's like, what's the point? Microsoft and Spencer just don't get it on so many levels.
I know that majority here will bash me or think this or that and that's fine. I'm just disappointed with Microsoft and after yesterday, I have realized that im simply not going to get what im hoping for from them and just have to accept it. On the positive side, I still own my Xbox One Slim and with no exclusives for me this year and SOD2 being next year, simply no reason to upgrade to a Scorpio.
For those who are upgrading to or buying a Scorpio, I hope the console proves to be worth it for you guys and that you enjoy the games that you play on it. For me, while things could change in the future, for now, I'll just stick with my Xbox One Slim.Comment

Re: E3 2017 - Microsoft Discussion Thread
I'm not going to bash you, it may surprise you because I actually agree with you 100% on everything with the exception of you thinking Sea of Thieves doesn't look that great. It looks wonderful to me, maybe I view it more favorably because Sid Meiers Pirates! holds a special place in my heart though.I wasn't happy after Microsoft's press conference yesterday so I didn't bother commenting on it but since im in a happier mood, below is my own personal opinion of their press conference. And yes, the name is just awful to the nth degree. If they couldn't have used Scorpio (which I agree, they should have done what it takes to use that name, it's a great name) then they should have just gone with Xbox One Elite to match their newer/better controller
Because it's not so much about the name not being likable as it is about the name being confusing to consumers who don't live, eat and breathe video games.
Think about a mom or dad going to Gamestop or Best Buy this Christmas with $500 to spend on a console. Junior wants Xbox One S (or is it Xbox One X??) and they get there and see one for $199 and one that has more "power" for $499. Well they will opt to get the one for $199 and $300 worth of games.
Now I know it's really more for the premium users but it doesn't have to necessarily still confuse people who may not be mega-nerds who know all about terraflops and such.
What's in a name? A LOT! Nintendo did surveys after the failure of the Wii U and asked people why they didn't purchase one and overwhelmingly the main reason people said is because they believed the Wii U to be an ADD-ON for the original Wii. That's right, people thought it was some sort of add-on screen for portability or such for the Wii.
So there is a lot, a LOT in the name and Microsoft really blew it.
With that being said, because I primarily use my Xbox One for Forza and that game is the star of the Xbox One X (can I still call it Scorpio please??) I'm going to get one if I can find a place to preorder.
But honestly, even though I plan to buy, this E3 has shaken my belief a bit that Microsoft was really starting to get it. I hope I'm not sinking $500 into something that is doomed to be another Wii U.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Agree. Was just hoping that Microsoft was going to at the very least meet my expectations which to be honestly, is usually always in the middle and not that hard to meet.
As for Sea of Thieves, I said that it looks very good which it does. Just not my type of game but I did come away more hyped and impressed by it than I did CD3 or SOD2 which for me personally, is just sad and disappointing. LOL.Comment

X is pretty common on the PC side to mark an item as "extreme" or for "enthusiasts". Not sure if that is where MS got it for this Xbox model. $500 seems like a good price for the hardware. They are likely still taking a big loss on it, although it is AMD, who are typically known for getting good bang for your buck.

Re: E3 2017 - Microsoft Discussion Thread
This last paragraph is the thing that they just don't seem to get.I feel there's room for another Forza game that's like PGR, to sit between the more sim Motorsport and open-world Horizon games. Crackdown 3 trailer made it look dated and empty. State of Decay 2 looked rough. Sea of Thieves looks interesting, but it's still hard to gauge how much you can do, amount of content, and if that content can remain exciting for an extended period. Ori 2 will be great, but new hardware should've come with more teases of the future, at least one ambitious new project.
I wouldn't care so much about the lack of new IP, if it didn't come across that Microsoft undervalues their own IPs. Like, here's Crimson Skies for original Xbox BC. So many people have expressed their love for this, Phil says. How about you find or build a new studio to make a new Crimson Skies? I mean in 2017 we're seeing a damn Busby game returning after 21 years. Not that I care about Busby, but we can't even get a traditional Banjo-Kazooie game.
It was an alright games conference, but when it comes to selling you an Xbox, not as much. Of course that's not necessarily their end goal anymore, but if they want many more people to buy into their platform and ecosystem, their going to need more and better content than what was shown here.
There's certain types of games that Sony and Nintendo will develop, not because of their sales potential, but because they understand the importance of diversifying their portfolio and thus making their platforms more attractive.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

I read a funny quote on Reddit, I am paraphrasing, "hoping for MS to produce a quality in house title is starting to feel like hoping for Nintendo to have strong third party support".Comment

Not a great conference. The biggest thing imo was the Minecraft news they way undersold. Sony needs to fix that as they will be the only platform without true Minecraft now going forward. Don't kid yourself how big Minecraft is.
