Ive said a lot in the past that I would be skipping Xbox altogether and opt for a PC build instead... But if those really are the prices, i think id just get an Xbox too. Im wondering how much of a performance hit the Lockhart console will take, because cheaper digital consoles are VERY enticing for me as I hate having disks nowadays.

The rumors regarding Lockhart (aka Series S) is that it's exactly the same as Xbox Series X but with a few exceptions -

- 4TF Navi GPU
- Digital Only console
- Much More compact

Main difference is the GPU in which maximum resolution would be 1080P-1440P. If you don't have a 4K HDR TV or plan on getting one, this would probably be your best bet if you want a gaming console. CPU, RAM and SSD all remain the same as Xbox Series X.

I thought I'd read or heard somewhere that Lockhart could just end up being a dongle of some sort. Am I thinking of a different product that just isn't discussed very often?

if I could just get access to project X cloud and streaming from my other consoles in the home, at any of my TVs with a dongle, that would change gaming in my household.

I have heard/read that but not in regards to Lockhart. xCloud could end up being similar to Amazon's Fire Stick down the line for those who want to go that route.

If thats the case, im immediately out. I literally just invested in a CX OLED that I plan on lasting me until affordable MicroLED is out, so theres no way im buying a console that wont utilize the TV specs.

Okay. Series X will be for you then if you decide to stay with consoles. Majority don't believe that it will go past $500 so I would assume that will be for you unless you decide to go the PC route.

I would much rather buy a PC, but youd have to factor in a desk, monitor, keyboard, speakers, as well as the PC build itself so youd be looking at $3k-$4k instead of just $500 for the XSX, so that's what ill probably be getting.

If the rumors that this Series S is going to be $200 is true I will buy this along with the PS5. Ive never bought a Xbox before but for $200 and the exclusives that are supposed to come out Im ok doing it at that price point.

I just think $200 is too cheap for a next gen console. I think $300 is a more logical price. As long as you are at least $100 cheaper than the All Digital PS5, that should entice those who wants the next gen experience but at lowest cost. $200 seems like the price if they wanted to quickly phase out the Xbox One generation. But since their first party will support current gen for the first year or 2, they aren't trying to phase it out as quickly. I like the pro-consumer routes they are taking. It just seems like they are taking the PC approach. Where they don't care which console you play on, they just want you in their ecosystem. I think it is more likely Microsoft matches the Sony price than to undercut with the Series X. While it was BS when they said they are not competing with Sony or Nintendo, I don't see them undercutting price especially with Phil Spencer saying it is okay if you don't want to buy the Series X this year. I think it is best for Xbox to match Price(I'm thinking $500) and going for the "Power" crown as it's selling point over Sony. While I definitely think Sony will continue to outsell Xbox, I don't think it will be as lopsided as this generation.

While I'm not getting a Xbox, I'm definitely looking forward to the July event. I hope to see some visually stunning games. Xbox just have to prove that it is more than just Forza, Halo, and Gears. Sony has proven that Single Player games can still sell very well. They need more quality exclusives. While it was very pro-consumer to support current gen with 1st party exclusives, they should have had at least some exclusives for the Series X only. It would have been great to have a few games that were fully optimized for the Series X at the beginning. If they still have to support Launch Xbox One and the Series S is real, then their first party developers would have to optimize games for SIX different consoles until they cut off current gen. You can scale graphics but not design. So exclusives will be held back until they cut off last gen. They will still have to run properly on all last gen consoles. So I can see their SSD not being fully utilized in their games outside of fast loading initially. Even Series S would hold it back some. Because in best case scenarios, Series S exclusives would lower resolution and graphical effects.


But a $250-300 next gen console that can at least hit 1080p60, SSD benefits, and still gives you the next gen experience is a great option for a secondary console. Pair that with Gamepass to play the first party exclusive games, that is a good option. I wouldn't do it because I prefer just one console and you would be getting a downgrade experience of an exclusive

Games have been released on multiple platforms simultaneously for decades, this refrain that the Series X games will be not as good because the same title will be released on other platforms doesn't really make much sense to me.

I do believe that $300 is the more realistic price but I wouldn't be shocked or surprised if it's $200. Xbox One X has already been discontinued and I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox One S / All Digital Editions gets phased out as well because with Xbox Series S, they can do so if they so choose.

The exclusives being on Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X is most likely just for a few titles - Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Forza Motorsport 8 and Gears Tactics (console version). Everwild and Hellblade 2 is Series X/S only as will other titles that are shown in July.

I personally don't see cross-gen as a big deal because its the same as PC. Games simply get scaled. Unless it's a design decision, there won't be any difference outside of visuals. Looking at Sony, Spider Man: Miles Morales is using the map from the PS4 base game and all the assets. It's NOT built from the ground up so honestly, not much if any of a difference if any whatsoever between that game and those few Xbox titles I mentioned.

Spencer said what he said because he's trying to build hype for xCloud which is going to be by far the best game streaming service and him saying that people don't have to buy a Series X this year has more to do with Covid-19 and a lot of people not having the money to spend which is very legitimate as outside of hardcore fans, majority will wait.

I believe that Microsoft and Xbox wins North America, being close in Europe and close overall. I also believe Xbox Series X/S wins November and December in NPD. But all remains to be seen.

The July event is said to be one hell of a show from behind the scenes. So far, all of the Xbox fans/podcasts I follow have been hearing nothing but positives about the show. Halo Infinite will be the main event for the show, expect Forza Horizon and Motorsport, Hellblade 2 gameplay plus Fable which is meant to be their "Witcher 3" and The Initiative is rumored to be working on a Mature story driven third person reboot of Perfect Dark. Obsidian is also working on a Mature "skyrim" type RPG. Only a few games will be cross-gen. Once 2022 hits, that will be no more unless it's a small game like Battletoads, etc. which to be honest, who even cares? LOL.

As for design, with the exception of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, there wasn't a single cross-gen game that was held back by Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 as far as I know. Games always get developed with the lowest common denominator in mind which will be PC when the new consoles launch because an SSD isn't required. Of course, look at what games are now with a mechanical HDD. It's insane.

Series S isn't going to hold the games back for Series X. Only the resolution and some graphical effects will be affected. Not game design.

Series S will be for those who don't own or plan to own a 4K HDR TV. You get to play next gen titles but at a lower resolution. As of the end of 2019, only 30% of consumers own a 4K TV and that's not gamers, that's people in general. Look at sales for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Both are under 10% and 20% respectively because the investment is much higher due to them being more for 4K TV's.

For example, im day one for Xbox Series X (and PS5) but the entry cost will be far past $1000. It will be around $3000 as im buying the LG OLED CX 55" TV. The vast majority of consumers simply aren't going to do this.

I'm expecting a great show in July and will definitely start to make people forget about Xbox One and simply be ready to move on to Xbox Series X.

I read it’s actually stronger than the current X and will be smaller. At $200 if true it will put Xbox in a good spot
