Hopefully it provides a "next gen" experience.
I feel with Series X you're going to need a high end 4k TV to take advantage of all the bells and whistles. I think their 1st party are going to target more native 4k60 and dynamic 4k120 to show off power of consoles. That's one of the advantages it will over PS5. I feel if your tv can do up to 120HZ for PS5, you are good for generation. For PS5, outside of racing and multiplayer, I don't think they are going to target 120FPS earlier on in gen. So unless bought a TV within last year that hits most of the required specs, I don't think most casual fans are going to want to any where between $1600-2000+ this November, when you factor in console, TV, games, possible extra controllers, subscriptions, and accessories.
You'll still get the next gen experience. It'll take advantage of SSD, stronger CPU and GPU. If i can convince my GF's son to consider the Lockhart instead of Series X, that'll save her some money. The TV he has, I gave him which does 1080I at best.

But Lockhart plus Gamepass seems like a great option. That way you still have access to all 1st Party games and older BC titles. You'll just have to buy 3rd Party games you want

If you don't own a high end 4K TV or OLED, then yeah, the Xbox Series S will be the better cheaper option.

For me, im obviously all in for Series X (and PS5) but will also be buying that LG CX OLED TV so I'll be ready. Give me all that next gen greatness!!!

Can't wait for the Xbox showcase in July!!!

If the Series S (Lockhart) is more powerful than the One X, I would seriously consider going that route.

I expect it to be. But I can see some getting caught up in the TF number comparison between Lockhart and 1X and not understanding difference. Also some can't be caught up in the "One X can do 4k and Series S can't". If the a CPU clocks and stuff is mostly the same between Series X and Lockhart, then main difference should be the graphics. You can scale back graphics and still get next gen experience
Series S would be great for those who don't plan on upgrading to 4k anytime soon or as a secondary console for exclusives and Gamepass

That's what I use the One S for now, EA Access, Game Pass and any MS exclusives I want to play. I have a 4K TV (it has HDR and UHD but it wasn't a top-line model by any means) with no plans at this point to upgrade.

Yeah then the Lockhart would be great for you. You'll be set with those subscriptions. I think $250-30 would be a great price for it. It has to be at least $100 cheaper than All-Digital PS5, close to half price of Series X, and in the same price range as the Switch that's a winning formula. That way Series S will be the entry point to Next gen if those 3 marks are hit. But I still feel that if they truly want to phase out Current gen quicker and at least entice more people to get Series S over sticking with One X, they shouldn't have mandated that their first party support current gen for the first year or so. They are going to show clear advantages over Series S and One X

Re: Microsoft Reveals the New Xbox Series X, Arrives in Holiday 2020

Realistically, im expecting Series S to be $300 and Series X to be $500. Very slim chance Microsoft goes balls out and puts the Series S at $200 and Series X at $400.

Series S WILL be better than Xbox One X because everything is simply superior tech. But it will be a 1080P (perhaps 1440P) console but with games hitting 60FPS. It will most likely be Digital Only. I personally would add a 4K Blu Ray to it just to have another advantage over the PS5 digital edition.

Now, if you're going to buy Series S while still keeping the Xbox One S, then you might want to look into trading in the Xbox One S because let's say, you get $100 credit for it and were going to spend $300 on Series S. For an extra $100, you basically get the best damn gaming console of the generation with a 4K Blu Ray drive and if you ever decide to upgrade your TV, you're already set.

Plus, majority of games will most likely have "resolution" and "performance" modes so even if your TV is lacking, you'll get to choose where as on Series S, I believe that games will be "set" based on if the player is using that model.

Comes down to how much you're willing to spend and if you're keeping the Xbox One S or not.

On the last episode of the Xbox Two podcast with Rand and Jez, Jez basically confirmed that "he knows" that the Xbox Series X showcase is set for late July. A few more weeks to go!!! I'm HYPED!!!

My prediction is Sunday July 26th.

With the reports of Series S/Lockhart being Revealed in August, I feel that is when Microsoft will reveal the price of both Series X and Series S. I don't see them revealing a newer consumer friendly console that late in pre-launch without revealing the price. I can see them showing off the other consumer and then the Series X and revealing the price for both. I feel it has to be at least $150-200 difference. I don't feel $100 is enough of a difference to really persuade someone from getting a cheaper model.

Yep, when Microsoft announces Series S, the release date, price tag and pre-orders will all be announced at the same time. I would say late August is my bet. Probably around Gamescom.

Microsoft announced an entire week of Xbox Gaming between July 21st and July 27th. Majority are saying that Thursday July 23rd will be the huge Xbox showcase. It will have first party and third party games on that showcase.

Plus a bunch of stuff gets revealed that week. There will also be a bunch of playable gameplay demos that will be available on Xbox One but they are not next gen titles of course. Mostly AA and Indies. Still cool that some publishers are allowing playable demos.

IF Sony prices the digital model at $400 and the Lockhart is more than $250 I think it makes sense to go with the future proof Playstation. At some point I will get a decent 4k TV. Might even have to price the Lockhart at $200 to get me to bite on that.

You can take this to the bank

Lockhart will be $200 and it will be all digital (This will be the mic drop announcement MS has left)

Series X will be $400 and will sell out within minutes

PS5 disc drive version will be $450

PS5 discless drive will be $400

Eh, would be surprised to see the 2 PS5 SKUs only $50 apart, I expect they'll include some extra items and it will be a $100 difference.

the disc drive is like 30 dollars so $50 difference not crazy but only reason i said 450 is because putting it at 500 when it is inferior to the series x at 400 and not far better in terms of performance then a 200 dollar lockhart they would want to compete in pricing

200 lockhart would be industry changing....that console has a better cpu then the ps5.....and as good a gpu as the ps4 pro

I agree. I don't feel $50 is enough of a difference to entice people to go all-Digital. If Storage is the same as well since specs are the same, physical does everything the digital does and won't have to worry about any streaming issues. Then you are still able to share games and buy used ones with Physical edition. The perks for gamers going all digital for Sony is that they make more money off of digital purchases, so even if they are losing a lot for every console sold for Digital edition, they can make up for it in digital sales and subscriptions.

If it just $50 difference, I see more people sticking with Physical edition because of added bonuses. But if it is a $100 difference, least you can say that you are getting same experience and the $100 saved could be another game or controller.

I still feel $500 and $300 would be the respective prices for Series X and Series S. I don't see them wanting to take too big off of a loss with Series X. Plus Xbox One(with Kinect) and One X was $500, I see them sticking at that price. $200 seems way to cheap for a next gen console. Plus you would have to drastically cut down One X cost which is still selling for over $400. I think $300 is a good number. If they can show that 1} Lockhart doesn't hold back Series X games, 2) clearly more powerful than One X, and 3) main difference from Series X games are drop in Resolution and ray tracing affects, that'll help sell more people on Lockhart who want a secondary console. Some are thinking Lockhart will hold back Series X, they have to show it doesn't. There has to be a clear advantage of One X or people will stick with One X until Series X gets a good deal. Then if the only major difference is 1080p 60 or 1440p60/30 compared to 4k60, then you'll get mostly the same experience with the Lockhart
