I feel with Series X you're going to need a high end 4k TV to take advantage of all the bells and whistles. I think their 1st party are going to target more native 4k60 and dynamic 4k120 to show off power of consoles. That's one of the advantages it will over PS5. I feel if your tv can do up to 120HZ for PS5, you are good for generation. For PS5, outside of racing and multiplayer, I don't think they are going to target 120FPS earlier on in gen. So unless bought a TV within last year that hits most of the required specs, I don't think most casual fans are going to want to any where between $1600-2000+ this November, when you factor in console, TV, games, possible extra controllers, subscriptions, and accessories.
You'll still get the next gen experience. It'll take advantage of SSD, stronger CPU and GPU. If i can convince my GF's son to consider the Lockhart instead of Series X, that'll save her some money. The TV he has, I gave him which does 1080I at best.
But Lockhart plus Gamepass seems like a great option. That way you still have access to all 1st Party games and older BC titles. You'll just have to buy 3rd Party games you want
