Re: Microsoft Reveals the New Xbox Series X, Arrives in Holiday 2020

Next-gen game upgrades should be free, Xbox tells developers
Xbox developers who don’t support Smart Delivery also have the option of selling two-game ‘cross-gen bundles’, in disc or digital form, which include seperate Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions of a game.

This is the method 2K has decided to adopt with NBA 2K21, which won’t offer any kind of upgrade scheme for current-gen owners looking to jump to next-gen, but will sell a $99.99/£84.99 bundle that includes both Xbox One and Xbox Series X, or PS4 and PS5 versions of the game.

Do we think that all next gen games will be 70 dollars? I would think that only a few doing it would be bad for the optics of said company.

I am thinking that Sony and MS will offset the money they will lose with the console prices by raising the game price and I also think subscription services like game pass and ps now will also increase

Microsoft and Sony wouldn't be the ones raising prices, they all have their cut and the value added services actually provide a reason not to raise prices.

I think that the vast majority of publishers will sell their games for $70 while maybe smaller publishers like Focus Home Interactive or THQ Nordic release games at $60 instead of $70.

I do see Microsoft and probably Sony increasing to $70 as well especially Microsoft because they want you in Game Pass. Best way to do that is by turning you off to buying the game and instead, putting that money towards a Game Pass subscription.

But we'll see what happens and know soon enough.

Does not bother me about $70 I would pay $80 for games if it meant the ability to play online was free.

I buy only specific games I care for so the price is not going to be bad for someone like me that does not buy hundreds of games

I was expecting $80 to be honest so $70 isn't a big deal for me. I have zero interest in playing online so free or not, that simply doesn't apply to me.

I will probably still buy a lot of games next generation with the main difference being that I will buy vast majority on disc so I can trade them in. Will only buy games like Cyberpunk 2077, AC Valhalla and others digitally due to there being expansions and whatnot.

Kinda neat, xCloud being used for remote/distributed development.

It does make it easier to establish prices with the primary consoles being Series X, Lockhart, and X1S

But I still don't get supporting the Xbox One family for the next couple years when all but one console got discontinued.

Xbox is all in on the ecosystem model. I do think XCloud has potential to be big. One, it can kill off Stadia. Smart phones in fall. But when get to the point where it is actually play anywhere, that's huge. You'll get to the point where Gamepass is a paid app on a smart TV. That'll be big

They don't want current Xbox One owners to feel abandoned, plus my personal guess is that the stock of new consoles may be impacted by the virus? They can afford to be good to gamers vs Sony who needs PS5 profits more

Microsoft's subscription model at $15 a month sounds great for consumers until you come to the realization that it won't be $15 a month for long. Get ready for a kick in the gonads.

It's worth more than $15/mo for me, but there's been no suggestion that the price is going to increase, would like to see a citation for where you're coming from so I can read more about that.

If anything, Xbox Live Gold may be going away (you can no longer buy 1 year subscriptions to it) and just rolled into Game Pass.

Do you really think Microsoft is going to keep their sub cost at $15? Wanna buy some Gamestop stock?
